Silver

Summary:

Two years after Salem's defeat, team RWBY find themselves in their final year at Beacon. The battle with Salem wasn't without it's sacrifices; Ruby lost her eyes in the final battle and while Atlas tech has given her her sight back, something was never quite the same. Weiss knows that just being with Ruby is a blessing but when Ruby comes up with the best valentines present ever, Weiss falls even deeper in love with her energetic leader.

Notes:

Happy Valentine's day! I hope everyone had a pleasant day with loved ones. What did everyone do today? I made my girlfriend chocolate covered strawberries and bananas, (I made for everyone including my mom and my brother). Even if you didn't have a valentines today know that there are definitely people in your life who do love you! For context, Ruby lost her eyes in her battle with Salem and now has prosthetics (Weiss paid for them) to help her see.

Work Text:

“Hey Ruby, after we finish this assignment did you want to go out into town?”  Weiss asked her girlfriend as they worked on a project together.

Ruby glanced up from her place on the paper.  “Sorry Weiss, I was going to head to the workshop and work on a few things after this.”  Ruby said as she shot her partner her best forgive me smile.

Weiss was disappointed at this but realized that this was a perfect opportunity to go out and look for a present for the energetic redhead beside her.

“That’s quite alright Ruby, I just needed to grab a few things, I’ll be fine on my own.  I’ll get us some dinner so you have something to eat when you’re done in the shop.”

Ruby leaned over and gave Weiss a peck on her cheek, “Thanks hun.”

Weiss blushed at this, still not used to the many pet names Ruby called her even though they had been together for years now.

After they finished working, Ruby went out to the workshop and Weiss set out for Vale.  The workshop was usually only available to students who had an appointment and had a professor watch over them.  However, at the start of their final year at Beacon, Ruby was given permission to use the workshop on her own.

Ruby began to work on all sorts of projects, even starting to earn money as many students recognized her craftsmanship and paid her to make upgrades and repairs to their equipment.  Today was different though.  Ruby was working on a personal project of hers; she felt like she had been neglecting Weiss recently to work on this, but hopefully it would be worth it.

As soon as they finished their work, Ruby jumped up before laying a chaste kiss upon Weiss’ lips.  “I’m sorry I’ve been so busy in the workshop recently, I have a lot of projects to do and a few repairs and customizations on top of it.  But I’ll be making some good money at least!”

Weiss wrapped her arms around Ruby’s neck to kiss the now taller girl again.  “It’s alright Ruby, I know it can get busy.  I just hope you’re not taking all of these jobs so you can get me something fancy for valentine’s day.”  Weiss said with a smirk causing the brunette before her to blush.

“Uhhh, nope!  Not in the slightest chance!”  Ruby said as she began to fidget in her lover’s embrace.

“Ruby!”  Weiss shouted before taking a warmer tone, “You.  You are all I need, not any material possession, I gave all of that up after all.”  Weiss said, referring to being stripped of her position as heiress so she could be with her team.

Ruby lifted Weiss off her feet resulting in the ex-heiress letting out a squeal.

“I want to get you something nice Weiss!  I know you might not need it, buuuut, I think you’ll like what I have planned!”  Ruby exclaimed before setting Weiss down on their shared bed.  Ruby slowly climbed onto the bed causing the mattress to shift under the new weight.  She drew close to Weiss before whispering, “You know, Yang and Blake are out right now, maybe I could abandon my projects right now and work on something else.”

The proximity and the fact that she could feel Ruby’s warm breath on her neck with each whisper caused Weiss to become as red as Ruby’s namesake.  It astonished her that Ruby could still reduce her to this state with a few words.  They had shared a few more, intimate moments over the years of their relationship.  But Weiss was close to powerless when Ruby initiated like this.

“I-I really don’t know Ruby.  W-w-what if t-they come back so-mmph!”  Ruby cut Weiss off by sealing her mouth off with a kiss.  Weiss felt a hand brush the outside of her thigh slightly before feeling Ruby trail a featherlight touch up her side causing her to shudder under the younger girl.

“We’re back!  Ew, gross, cut that out we’re back now and we all agreed that we would be better off not seeing each other make out.”  Yang shouted as she came into the room causing Ruby to all but throw herself to the opposite side of the room.

Weiss was panting, still red in the face before muttering an apology and sending a glare over at Ruby.

“Sorry sis.”  Ruby mumbled avoiding eye contact with any of the occupants of the room.

Weiss got up from the bed and walked over to Ruby, flicking her in the forehead before stealing another kiss.  “That’s for being a dolt.  Go work on your projects, I still need to head to Vale to get some shopping done.”

With that Weiss left their dorm to head to the city and Ruby ran through the halls towards the workshop.

“I really hope Weiss likes what I have planned for her.  Also gotta get something nice for Blake since she really helped me out.”  Ruby thought to herself as she raced past other students.

She had built up a significant amount of aura and using her eyes no longer was too much of a strain.

Two weeks ago Ruby had come to Blake asking her if she knew about what Weiss liked that she herself may not know.

“I’m not sure if there’s anything that I know that you wouldn’t already know, Ruby.”  Said an exasperated Blake.  After sparring with Yang the last thing she wanted to do was be interrogated by her energetic leader.

Ruby whined in protest.  “Come ooooonnn Blake!  Just give me something!  Maybe I don’t know about it.  Weiss doesn’t always tell me these things cause she gets embarrassed.”

“And if she wouldn’t tell you, what exactly makes you think she would tell me?". When Blake realized all she did was invite Ruby to give her an entire paragraph of fictional reasons she was quick to stop it in its tracks.  "Stop.  Don’t answer that, I’ll help you get ideas for a valentines gift but you owe me.”

“Yes! Thank you Blake!”

Blake sighed as her plans of quietly reading spiraled down the drain.  “Let’s start with the obvious.  Your eyes.  Weiss told me once that she wanted to be the person she sees when she looks into your eyes, she wanted to become the person you saw her as.”

“SHE DID!?”

Blake merely facepalmed at Ruby’s reaction, “You’re welcome Ruby.”

After learning about Weiss’ fondness of her old eyes, Ruby knew the perfect gift for Weiss, and she could get it all without leaving campus.  She had spent the better of the last two weeks sourcing the perfect materials for her gift.  Today was the day she would hopefully finish her project so that she could stop neglecting her girlfriend.

She set her belongings down on one of the many workstations before bringing out her scroll.  Soon the device was ringing and before long a disgruntled Qrow appeared on screen.

“Uncle Qrow!”

“Hey there, I’m guessing it’s time to review your work again huh?”

“If you could!  This is the color I have so far, do you think it’s close?  I think this is at least getting close!  It’s at least partially a mirror like it would be naturally.”  Ruby said as she showed off her project to her uncle.

Qrow sat there speechless for a moment.  “It’s perfect.  It’s like I’m looking into the past, at your mother.”  He said solemnly.

Ruby nodded fondly before gazing upon her project, she thanked her uncle for his help and began the finishing touches.

Valentines Day came swiftly and students across campus were confessing their feelings to one another.  Weiss even received a few tokens of affection herself.  Ruby quickly shot down anyone trying to give her gifts, no doubt feeling awkward about receiving gifts even though she was in a committed relationship.

After they finished their classes for the day, the red and white duo found themselves lounging in their bed.

“So, our reservation isn’t until six so we have some time before we need to get ready.”  Weiss whispered into Ruby’s ear.  She twisted her body so that she was practically on top of her girlfriend, “What do you think we should do with all this free time?”

Ruby wrapped her arms around the smaller girl and drew her in for a kiss.  “As much as doing that would be fun, I think we should wait until we’re alone after dinner.  We wouldn’t want Yang and Blake to walk in on us again.”  She said with a chuckle.

“I do think I know what we could do in the meantime.  Presents!.”

Weiss kissed her girlfriend on the cheek, “I was going to give you your present at dinner, but I suppose I could give it to you now.  It would be a nice accessory for your outfit.”

Weiss was the first to stand going over to their shared closet and fishing out a small b velvet box.  “Close your eyes Ruby!”  She called out before walking over to Ruby.  Slowly she opened the box and clasped the necklace with the crystal snowflake around Ruby’s neck.

She walked Ruby over and faced her towards the mirror, “Alright you can open your eyes now.”

Ruby opened her eyes and gasped.  She saw a pristine crystal snowflake dangling from her neck.

“Weiss, this is beautiful.  Thank you.”

Weiss wrapped her arms around Ruby’s waist and kissed her again on the cheek.  “Now if we’re ever apart, you can think of me through this snowflake.”

“Awwwwh, I’ll always have my snowflake now!”

Weiss blushed at the statement but continued to hold Ruby, taking a moment to rest her head on Ruby’s shoulder.  Over the years Ruby had grown, making her a few inches taller than Weiss even with her heels.  Her huntress training sculpted her muscles and she was toned and strong.  Weiss would never forget the day she found out that Ruby had developed a perfect six-pack.  She couldn’t focus for the entire day of classes and spent the day fantasizing about Ruby’s stomach.  Even now she would find herself lazily tracing shapes across Ruby’s abs.

Ruby suddenly turned around in her embrace drawing Weiss from her thoughts.

“Hold on, I'll get your present now, just wait here.”

Ruby ran, first to the closet grabbing a box from the top shelf, then running into the bathroom.  After a few moments Ruby reappeared wearing a blindfold.

“Alright Weiss, are you ready for your present?”  Ruby asked, excitement just radiating off her as she bounced on the balls of her feet.

Weiss stood confused before standing before her.

“Hi you dolt, how come you’re the one wearing the blindfold and not me?  Isn’t that kind of backwards?”

“Normally yes but this is your present!”

Weiss pushed Ruby against the wall, pinning her by the wrists.  She ghosted a kiss on Ruby’s neck, then her collarbone.

“Ohhhh, are you my present?  Are you saying I can do whatever I please with you?”

“I-I, y-you could always do anything you w-wanted to me!”  Ruby squeaked.

“So pray tell, my sweet little rose, what is my present?”  Weiss said before biting down on Ruby’s collar, eliciting a groan out of the younger girl.

“It’s beneath the blindfold Weiss.”

This had Weiss very confused.  Slowly she took the blindfold off of Ruby and when Ruby opened her eyes Weiss couldn’t help but cry.  Staring back at her was herself, the goofiest grin plastered on her face as the tears continued to fall.  She saw her reflection in two shimmering pools of silver.

“Hi.”  Ruby whispered, a tear slipping down her cheek as well.

Weiss elected to tackle-hug her girlfriend, bringing both of them tumbling down to the floor.

“Thank you Ruby.  I think this is the best present I have ever received.  I was sad when I realized that I’d never be able to look into your beautiful eyes again but I knew that having you in my life was more important than the little things.  I never thought I’d be able to see this again.  How did you do it?”

“Well, I found an interesting type of quartz on our last mission and my uncle Qrow actually mentioned that it reminded him of my mom’s eyes.  Blake told me that you really liked my eyes so I used the quartz to make lenses and had uncle Qrow make sure the color and look was just right!”

Weiss brought her lips to Ruby’s, she felt Ruby’s arms wrap around her protectively as she melted into the kiss.  They laid there for what seemed like hours just enjoying each other's company, Weiss taking every opportunity to gaze lovingly into her girlfriend's beautiful eyes.  She couldn’t but smile even wider when she’d catch her reflection and see her already face splitting grin.

Ruby smiled when she noticed what Weiss was doing, giving Weiss ample time to just stare at her.

“Happy Valentine’s Day Weiss, I love you.”

“I love you too Ruby, I always will.  Thank you for being with me, and giving me the world.”
