Summary:

With all the ridicule in the world, all was need was a spark of hope to get Suki Midoriya to go toward her dream on being a hero

Chapter 1: "A Plain Glazed Donut"

Chapter Text

Not everyone is born equal, that's the mentality most people ignore. However, for a certain girl, she took that mentality to heart at the age of four.

Being born with a superhuman uncanny power is what makes you seem like a normal person to anyone else. A quirk is what that uncanny power is called, this power manifests at the age of four. 80% of the population has one, and the other 20% were unfortunate enough not to get one.

Suki Midoriya had spent her life as a girl who dreams about being a hero, even before she turned four, she had hoped to be just like All Might. And even after she had been announced as “quirkless”, she still dreamt on.

However, not everyone was necessarily fond of her dream of becoming a hero. Especially one ash-blonde boy,  Katsuki Bakugou. Once her best friend in the whole wide world, turned into a bully that torments her every chance he gets. And he still does to this day.

But even after what Bakugo had put her through, she still managed to put a smile on her face, believing she would become a hero. It was what she always wanted, and she would do anything to make sure she had reached that goal.

..|~|..

“Alright class.” A teacher standing in front of a class whilst being behind a desk. He had a stack of papers in front of him on said desk. “I know I have to hand out these career planning forms so you kids can find out what you want to do with your sorry lifes .” He said rather plainly and scoldingly.

Suki was there in the class as well, sitting behind a boy with ash-blonde hair who had his feet up on the desk and a smirk on his face.

“But why should I bother?!” Shouted he, snatching the stack of papers right off his desk with a smirk. He then turned around in a quick motion and threw the papers behind him. “I know you all want to take the hero course track!”

The class uproared in excitement, flailing their quirks around like a bunch of children. Only a select few were silent and not in the current uproar, Suki was apart of that select few, not really having a quirk to show off or having any right to be excited to begin with.

“Yea, Yea, you all have amazing quirks, but you have to remember the school rules. No using quirks on campus.” The teacher warned.

“Hey, teach!” The ash-blonde called out. “Don’t put me in with these lumps of losers.” He insulted. “They will be lucky if they become a D-lister’s sidekicks!” The entire class uproared again, only then, it was because they were offended.

“You think you’re better than us Katsuki?!”

“Yea! We’re gonna kick your ass for that!”

“Pfffft-.” Bakugo spitook at his fellow classmates. “Come on then! I’ll take you all on!”

“Hmmm.” The teacher hummed, looking down on a paper. “It says here that Bakugo is applying for U.A…” Everyone was awed, but that's the usual. Bakugo, the kid who got everything when he got his quirk. Everyone believed he was the golden child of Musutafu.

“Wow, U.A? That’s the number 1 hero school.”

“Yea, that has a 0.2% acceptance rate, will he actually get in?”

“Probably. This is Katsuki we are talking about.”

“Yeah, you heard him!” Bakugo shouted, shooting out of his seat and standing on his desk. “I’m going to be the best and richest hero that ever existed!” He continued to shout, putting a single finger in the air. “And it will all start with U.A high!”

“Oh right, Midoriya. You want to go to U.A too right?”

Everyone paused, Bakugo looked dumbstruck. Suki shrunk herself in her seat as she felt everyone’s gaze on her. An invisibility or a perception quirk would be at the utmost use, but alas, she was quirkless. She sighed before sitting up straight with a small frown.

PPPPPPPFFFFFFFFFTTTTT- HAHAHAHAHAHA!” The class erupted with laughter, the pure thought of a quirkless girl wanting to enter the top hero school is baffling. But the fact that she actually applied is hilarious to them.

“She wouldn’t even get past the entrance exam!”

“They will never let a quirkless loser like you get in!”

“A-Actually…th-they got rid of that rule…” She mumbled, fiddling her fingers.

“And that means what, you shitter?” One of the other classmates said, Suki stayed silent. Not saying a word after that as she had no clear answer. The class continued to laugh.

That was until Bakugo had slammed his hand on her desk and caused an explosion with his quirk. “DEKU!” Suki flinched, jerking back as she covered her face with her arms. “Do you really think you could get into U.A?!” He continued to shout. “Do you think you are better than me?!”

“N-No, Kacchan. I-I could never-.”

“Shut the fuck up!” He shouted once more at the cowering girl. He looked quite angry, scratch that, very angry. Suki tried not to look at him, she began to play with her hanafuda earrings, the one on her left ear to be exact. Her earrings were very special to her, more so than most things she owns.

“Are you fucking ignoring me?!” He shouted.

“Wh-Wha- No-.”

“Alright, Bakugo. That’s enough, relax and sit back down.” The teacher ordered, looking back at his paper. The ash-blonde merely scoffed at Suki before sitting back in his seat. However, she knows that this won’t be the last time he’s gonna mess with her today.

Yea, it was always like this. Ever since ten years ago, when Suki was four, Katsuki always bullied the weak. Not only because he got his quirk early when he was three, he got an amazing quirk. Explosion: Allowing him to create explosions on command by igniting the nitroglycerin sweat he secretes.

All that led him into being praised as the golden child of Musutafu. He always dreamt of being the number 1 hero, and all that praising led him to believe all he had to do was train at U.A high and he’d be climbing the hero ranking like nothing.

However, he bullied people he saw as weaker than himself. This very much included one of the closest friends he ever had, Suki. She understands why though, he believes that she will get in the way of his massive dream of being the best hero of all time, even better than All Might.

However, Suki never let him bring her down. That’s why he is still persisting on putting her down at every turn.

The school bell rang and everyone began to get up and leave. Suki stayed for a bit, placing her things back in her bag. She made sure she was always the last one to leave class, just so she doesn’t run into Bakugo on the way out.

She put a journal in her book bag with a small smile on her face. However, that journal was swiftly snatched away from her. She looked at the direction the journal was taken, yet of course, Katsuki Bakugo was there. He was tauntingly waving the book back and forth.

“We aren’t done yet, Deku.” He said and Suki looked at him. Two of his goons came up behind him and took a look at the journal.

“ “Hero Analysis for the Future”? Don’t tell me you are still trying to be a hero Deku-.” The goon paused. “Wait, don’t answer that.”

“H-Hey, come on guys.” Suki said. “Give it back…”

Katsuki then blew it up with his quirk. Suki winced as she saw the journal being tossed out the window.

Katsuki then looked at Suki again. She was looking out of the window dumbstruck. He then heard one of his goons snicker. Katsuki looked at him, scoffing. “Sorry dude, its just that I can’t help but laugh every time I see Midoriya’s stupid birthmark.”

Yep, a birthmark. One that looks like a flaming scar on the left side of her forehead. In her opinion, it looks cool. But since she is well, quirkless, everyone makes fun of her for it. It’s idiotic, she knows.

“Listen, Deku. I’m going to say this once and only once.” He put a hand on her shoulder and smiled at her, cockingly. “Don’t even think of applying for the hero course again. Or you’ll regret it.” He used his quirk to start some sparks on her shoulder. Yep, that's gonna leave a mark…

As he and his friends began to leave the room, Katsuki stopped at the front of the door. He turned his head to the girl. “Actually, if you want to be a hero so badly, there might actually be a way.” He paused for a moment and smirked. “Take a swan dive off the roof and pray for a quirk in your next life.”

He…actually said….

In all Suki’s years of being tormented by this guy and not once had he ever told her to commit suicide. Suki looked back at him with a face of absolute disgust and shock. Bakugo held his hand up and made sparks fly on his hand. “There a problem?”

Suki stayed silent, knowing that was the best option. Otherwise she will be beaten to a pulp.

“Hm, yea…Thought so.” And with that, Katsuki left and sooner or later, Suki did too. He had picked up her hero analysis for the future, but it landed into the koi pond.

She wasn’t feeling her best, especially not after that whole end of school thing. ‘It doesn’t matter, just live through it like you always do, Suki.’ She put a smile on her face. ‘He never stopped me before, what’s so different now?’ She looked at her hand as she walked down a tunnel.

“Hey, you would make a pretty good skinsui- What the fuck-?!” Suki turned around in a quick motion. There was someone behind her, but he seemed rather blurred out. He was facing away from her, having crimson red hair and wearing a black and green squared haori, he was also wielding a red sword with a blade guard in the shape of a flame. She noticed that around this boy, there was green slime everywhere on the ground.

“H-Hello?” Suki spoke out to him. No response. Then, as he began to turn his head to her, he faded away. She was rather bamboozled at the seams. Did some sort of spirit-like being come out of nowhere or did she just watch someone perish before her very eyes. ‘That…was strange.’

“I AM HERE-!” A loud voice shouted as the top of a sewer drain shot up. It was a voice Suki knew all too well. A voice that put stars in her eyes. The person of that voice was none other than the no.1 hero. All Might. In all these years, The greenette had never thought she’d meet him in person . “You…defeated him?”

“H-huh?” Suki looked around, and remembered that there was slime everywhere. It was probably some kind of villain he was chasing. “Oh, no. Th-This wasn’t me. I-It was some boy wearing a haori and had a red sword and ha- Just…wow. I-I can’t believe it. Your a-actually All Might.” Suki said with pure happiness inscribed all over her face. He gave her a thumbs up.

“Yes! It is I!” He shouted once more.

“Wait, how are you going to contain the villain?” Suki questioned the hero and he pulled out two large soda bottles.

“In these!”

“Huh….” Suki said as All Might, in a highly quick motion, cleaned up all of the villain's slime and put it into the bottle. He done it so fast, it was unbelievable that she was seeing him in person.

“Now! Last but not least-“ Before All Might could say anything, Suki already had her note book out, waiting for him to sign it. Hell, she even handed him a marker. “Well, you are quick to act…I like that!” He shouted, signing her note book on an empty page. “Alright! I am now off to deliver this trouble maker to the police! I hope we will meet again, Young uhm….”

“Suki, Suki Midoriya!”

“Right, well. I’m going to go now, Young Midoriya.” All Might said as he walked out of the tunnel and squatted down, preparing to jump.

“W-Wait…” She quietly said, it wasn’t enough for him to hear her though so he jumped off.

The hero was soaring through the air after taking a singular jump. However, something felt…off. He looked down at his feet and his jaw almost fell off his face. Suki was holding onto his leg, as they were now currently well over 200 feet in the air.

“Hey! What th-“

“I-I still have a question to a-ask you, All Might!”

“I love my fans but this is too much! Get off! Go on! Get!”

“No way! If I let go, I die!”

“Oh right, good point.” He realized. “Just close your eyes and mouth until we land.” Suki did as she was told and closed her eyes and mouth.

When they did land, Suki’s face was pale. It was as if she had seen a ghost. “My….My life just flashed before my eyes.”

“That’s what you get!” The hero said. “That was a bold move, Young Midoriya. Now, I must be off!”

“W-Wait.”

“No can do! Hero work doesn’t wait-.”

“Can someone like me…ever be someone as great as you?!” All Might paused, listening to what she had to say. “I’m a girl with no ability or power whatsoever, But I still dream to be a hero! To be…like you…” Suki paused. “Is….Is it possible?” She needed to know, she figured, if she got an answer from the number one hero, then she would know for sure if she should still aspire to be a hero.

All Might froze, but there was steam emitting from him. He quickly realized it not long after. ‘Shit-“

POOF

“Huh….?” After the steam disappeared, Suki was able to locate a scrawny, like skeleton scrawny, man with yellow hair and black sclera with blue eyes. “Wh-What?!” She shouted, backing away from the man. “Y-You aren’t All Might, what did you- Wait! You’re an imposter!”

“No, I assure you. I am All Mig- Bleh. ” He couldn’t even finish his sentence before he began to drool blood.

“A-Are you ok?!”

“Yea, I’m fine.” He replied while wiping his mouth. “You know those fat guys at the pool who suck their stomachs in so they look big and buff? Yea, I’m kinda like that.” He pointed out before sitting down. Suki was still shocked, never would she have thought that All Might had another form…and for it to be a blonde skeleton with skin. “Look, don’t go bragging about this or telling anyone online either.”

Suki snapped out of her shocked state and nodded. Despite her being very excited to be actually having a conversation with All Might, she was dying to hear his answer for her question. He lifted his shirt to reveal a nasty scar on his side. Suki was surprised by the sheer look of the scar, it looks like it was a pretty fatal wound. “Pretty gnarly right? Got this in a fight five years back. Lost my whole stomach.”

“Whoa…five years ago? Was it the fight with Toxic Chainsaw?” Suki questioned and the hero raised a brow.

“Wow, you sure know your stuff. Nah, he landed some good hits, but he wasn’t strong enough. This came from a fight I try to keep under the rug, a fight I make sure no one knows about.” He stated before sighing. “Now to answer your question…” Man, how to put this without sounding like an ass. “No.”

“…H-Huh?” She…must be deaf right? Did he just…say no?

“Nowadays, villains are just too strong. Most villains you can’t defeat without a quirk. So no, I don’t believe you could be a hero.” He said as he stood up and walked past her.

She was absolutely shocked. But then again, she shouldn’t really be. Being that she is quirkless, she was bound to be looked down upon. Pitied even. It just, hurt way more when he actually said it to her face. Katsuki…was right.

BOOM

Suki wiped the tears off her face and looked from the top of the building to see an explosion in the distance. She was debating if she should even bother going over, being what All Might said. But then again, it doesn’t just have to be taking notes on heroes. She could see a bunch of heroes fight a villain in person. Yea, maybe that will cheer her up…

She ran down the stairs of the building and ran over to where the explosion came from. When she arrived, there was a big crowd. She tried to squeeze through them to get to see the area and a look of shock grew on her face. It was the slime villain, she never got a clear look at him before since he was chopped to pieces, but he managed to take a hostage. That hostage was none other than her bully. Oh yea, the great Katsuki Bakugou got caught by a villain.

But for some reason, despite there being someone in danger. The heroes around were doing nothing, mostly because the fires put the heroes in the area at a disadvantage and Back Draft, which was a water based hero, was busy taking out the fires.

And it was then, without thought. Suki ran in, her legs just…moved. They moved without her thinking about it, despite the fact that this asshat basically told her to kill herself, she was going to try and save him.

“Huh?! You?!” The slime villain shouted.

“Deku?”

“Eh, whatever. I’ll just kill you right here, right now!” He shouted, but just then, Suki yeeted her open school bag at him. The villain got a pencil stab straight to the eye. “Agh! Little bitch!” The slime villain then shot a stream of slime at her. Just before it was about to hit her, she heard voices speak to her. Two in fact. They both said the same thing.

“Fight…”

A wave of memories that don’t belong to Suki hit her and without thinking she swung her left arm up and a flame dispersed from it, blocking the slime attack after that, she punched with her right hand and a blue energy came out of it destroying the slime that was originally split.. However, after that attack, Suki began to choke, as if, using that attack had to do something with her breathing.

She had no idea what she had just done, well obviously she made fire come out her hand, but she doesn’t know how. Her mind was blank, all she was focused on was making sure she didn’t choke to death. And the fires didn’t help either.

“What are you doing here, young one?” Suki looked up to see a man with blonde hair with red at the tips. He had a closed mouth smile and wore a cape which was designed to be a fire. His clothing looked like a smooth, armor-like cloth and he wielded a sword. She knew who it was.

The man looked upon the villain. “You decide to take a boy hostage and attempt to murder this girl here?” He questioned. “You will face my blade, you fiend.”

“…Ah shit.” The villain looked upon the hero with fear. “What the hell?! First I run into All Might…and then.” The villain paused before gasping, seeing the close mouth smile of the hero who had a burning aura. “Rengoku!”

The hero dashed toward the villain bare handed. He was so fast that the villain couldn’t even react to him. He plunged his arm into the villain's body and yanked Bakugou out. He jumped back, successfully saving the bombaric bastard. The hero jumped back, holding Katsuki with one hand.

“You young ones should get to safety.”

“Eh?! Don’t tell me what to do!” Bakugo shouted and Rengoku kindly ignored, drawing his sword.

The hero got into a stance, sliding his leg backwards while holding the handle for his blade. “Purgatory Flare…Third Form.” He leaped toward the villain in a quick motion, his blade being engulfed in flames. “Blazing Universe!”

“Damn you, Rengoku!!!” The villain shouted as Rengoku swung his blade down. The force of the attack caused a shockwave to burst out and that shockwave put out most of the surrounding fires while at the same time, forcing the slime villain to separate into slime puddles once more as he passed out.

He put his sword back and looked at the crowd, still smiling. The crowd began to roar in glee and excitement. Suki stood up on her two legs, she scratched the back of her neck before she felt a finger flick her at the back of her head.

“That was a pretty stupid move kid, you almost got yourself killed.” A hero named “Death Arms” said. Scolding Suki for running into a major hazard zone. Suki rubbed the back of her head where she got flicked. She looked to where Bakugou was and of course, being praised like the golden child he is…

“Hey now, don’t be rough on her.” Rengoku said, patting his fellow hero on the shoulder. Death Arms scoffed and he walked away. Rengoku looked at the girl. Suki seemed a bit troubled with something, usually most people would be beaming up at him with a smile on her face. “What seems to be the problem, Young one?”

Suki snapped out of it, looking up at the hero. “You seem troubled. Everything alright?”

Suki was a bit hesitant, but she nodded. “Everything is fine.” However, Rengoku wasn’t really buying it.

“You know, its my job as a hero to make sure all the victims of a villain attack are doing alright. If you are feeling troubled I am happy to help.” He explained, Suki sighed a bit. Well, here goes nothing.

“It’s just, I’ve been wondering…” She paused for a moment. “I’m a quirkless girl. No special ability or power that makes me special.” She spoke to him, already having that burning feeling in her gut. She knew what he was going to say. “Do…you think it's possible for me to become a hero?”

Rengoku, still smiling, patted her head. He then walked off. “Come on now. Walk with me.” Suki was rather confused, she was expecting a straight on answer. Mostly a means of saying that it was “Impossible” or that she will never make it past the exams. Nonetheless, she listened and followed the hero.

They walked by each other for a while before Rengoku began to speak. “So, what is your name, green haired girl?”

“O-Oh, my name is Suki Midoriya…”

Rengoku hummed as they continued to walk. The walk was quiet, as the more time that passed by, the more anxious she got. Before, Suki knew the answer she was going to get. But somehow, she felt a bit…hopeful. She looked around and saw a lot of people staring, others looked like they were mummering or whispering to another. Probably because she was walking beside the number 2 hero.

Rengoku walked into a small cafe, Suki following behind. “Tell me.” He started. “What’s your favorite kind of donut?”

“…”

.

.

.

Suki and Rengoku were sitting down, eating the donuts the hero bought. It…was a bit strange, but Suki was appreciative. Just before Suki was going to take a bite, she realized something. She stared at the donut in thought, this gained Rengoku’s attention.

“Is something the matter, Young Midoriya?”

“…I’m out eating donuts with the number two hero.” She spoke. “This is the craziest day in my life.” She said, without looking at Rengoku. “I mean, I watched so many of your hero records, including your debut. You are one of my favorite heroes.” She said, beaming with a smile. Rengoku laughed a small bit.

“I will say, you are an interesting one.” Suki looked gloomy before, but she seemed a bit better now.

“I-I have so many questions to ask you. Like, how did you become Japan's no.2 hero in only four years? Can you only fight with a sword or are you good with other weapons? Your hands maybe? OH! What if-.” And she continued on, asking the hero some questions, mumbling while doing so without taking a very well needed breath.

“Alright, Alright.” The hero said, patting the girl's shoulder, snapping her out of it. “I believe that's enough for now. You have to remember to breathe.” Took a deep breath before exhaling.

“S-Sorry.”

“No worries.”

They sat there for a moment longer. After they finished their donuts, Rengoku and Suki stood up. “Well, I believe you should be heading home now.” He said now.

“O-Oh, right.” She said, with a small smile. She looked at him. “A-Actually, I can make some tea for you if you’d like.” She said, fiddling her fingers. “As a thanks for the donut?” She felt bad for having the no.2 hero buy a donut for her and not give anything in return. The hero hummed.

“As much as I’d like to decline. I am curious to see how well you make your tea.” He said with a finger on his chin. “I accept your offer then.”

“Great!”

.

.

.

“Yea, this…this is my place.” Suki told the hero who was behind him. They began to enter the apartment that Suki lives in. “Um, make yourself…feel at home?” She began to realize…

‘Holy crap…Rengoku is in my apartment…’

The hero looked around as Suki went to the kitchen to make the tea and noticed something almost immediately. He hummed as he took a seat on the couch, waiting for Suki to finish making the tea. He may say, Suki is a very interesting young girl. Despite being “quirkless”, she dreams of being a hero. Well, she believes she is quirkless, but Rengoku saw it. Anything but quirkless it seems.

However, the answer to her question earlier to him was obvious.

After a while, Suki finally finished making the tea. She walked over to the hero with two cups, handing him one of them. “H-Here, I hope you enjoy it.” The hero took the cup with a smile. Suki sat next to the hero as he took a sip.

He hummed for a moment. Tilting his head a slight bit before coming up with a response. “It’s good, not it’s greatest taste.” He said, taking another sip. “I have a question of my own, Young Midoriya. Two in fact.” He heard Suki hum before she took a sip of her tea.

“Yea, Wh-what is it?”

“You live alone, don’t you?” And at that moment, Suki felt completely and utterly terrible. She looked at the tea in her cup, she couldn’t help but have a single tear run down her face.

Rengoku felt responsible for the reaction. “I apologize if I brought back a painful memory.”

“N-No, it's fine.” She looked up. “About a year and a half ago, my mom died to Turbolicious. It hasn’t been easy since then since my dad is out at sea and haven’t seen him since I was born.” She said, wiping the few stray tears from her face. She looked at the wall in front of them. “But if there’s one thing I know my mom wouldn’t want me to start doing is giving up on my dream.”

“Hm. Accept my deepest apologies.” He apologized to her.

“D-Don’t be sorry. It’s not your fault.”

Rengoku thought for a while before saying something else. After taking his final sip of tea, he spoke. “What do you think being a hero means?”

Suki sniffled a bit to clear her voice. She took a deep, yet shaky breath. “Well, being a hero means that you give it your all to protect someone, to fight even though you know you don’t stand a chance. I want to be someone who can save people with a smile on my face…”

Rengoku hummed, he looked at the girl very seriously. He saw something faint, like two people. One was the boy with the square pattern haori and the other was a guy who had pinkish hair and prison tattoos, who seemed to be a martial artist too. They then just faded away. ‘Interesting…’ He thought.

He then put his cup down and closed his eyes, crossing his arms in the process. “You can do it.”

“…Say what?” No, she must be deaf, right?

“I believe you can become a hero.” He hummed. “With the proper training and teachings, you will, without a doubt, be a hero.” He then stood up with a smile on his face, and aura radiating around him. Thus making him look like a complete badass. “You will be raised and trained by me, you will be a hero.”

“I…what?” Is…he serious? Is he actually going to train her? To take her under his wing? She lost all thought and said one thing. “…Big bro?”

“…What?” The two stared at each other for a long while.

But this was the day, where Suki found happiness in her life once more. And a chance to become a hero.
