Who cooks?
It’s mostly Rook because he is always hungry to eat. He makes a lot of snacks and quick meals, which leads to cooking a big dinner that he often watches from YouTube Tasty channels. There was a phase when Rook cooked a lot of cheese based dishes (that’s 90 percent of the Tasty videos a few years ago,) and while Ace loved to wolf down on them, he had to ask Rook for some simple dinner as well, because as much Ace likes to exercise to keep his prime physique, his metabolism is slower than his younger boyfriend. Everything Rook cooked was delicious (French people’s specialty - butter, wine and cream,) but Ace didn’t want to risk his Instagram worthy abs.
Who buys the groceries?
They both go out together and each have the usual items to buy. Rook goes for the groceries and has Ace to discuss what they want to eat for the entire week, and picks up some apples, camembert and loaf of bread (he likes to switch between soft white and buckwheat with seed.) Ace’s main interest is to buy hair gel (gotta be one of those black ice or cool pine scented ones,) sour cream and potatoes. The real problem is that they are both a bit of an impulse shopper, so their pantry often ends up with sweet candies, or tubs of ice cream they crave on the day.
Going out to eat: Who pays? Who orders the most food? And who has dessert?
Ace tends to pay, since he likes to give and buy things for Rook quite often. He knew that Rook’s biggest joy in the world has been eating good food, so it wasn’t a surprise for Ace to spend a lot whenever they went out to crash burger joints and restaurants. Rook likes to order at least two side/appetisers, one chunky main and creamy dessert (so basically onion fries, chicken wings, ribeye steak, slice of cheesecake.) Ace likes to pick at whatever Rook ordered, and they end up sharing the finger food together.
Would they go to the beach? Who knows how to swim? Who doesn’t?
Yes, they would and thoroughly enjoy their time together there. Ace is a better swimmer than Rook, given he had extensive training about rescue in any kind of situation. Rook can also swim and he remembers the necessary training he had, but most likely prefers to float around with a tube or life jacket. Ace likes to put a lot of sunscreen on his scar under his pecs, so there wouldn't be much difference on his skin when he gets sunburnt. Rook doesn't really care for it but still puts some sunscreens on regardless, because UV ray be a bitch nowadays. Sometimes they like to play floating otters together - cruising on the water as they float on their back, hands held together and enjoy the warm weather. This sometimes caused trouble for both of them, because one time they drifted too far away from the shore. Swimming back wasn't the issue, but hell, it was a flashback to their recruit days. Being forced to do an unexpected one mile swim for survival. Wamai found them splayed across the sandy field, like a couple of jellyfishes.
Is someone multilingual? Do they try to teach another language to the other? How does it go?
Both are multilingual as they speak English in Rainbow, but have their own mother language. They know both languages don’t sound remotely the same, and yet it’s fun to teach each other the pet names and endearments, and explain its literal translations. They often use this in English, so it sounds like,
Rook: Handsome, are you up for a run today?
Ace: Hell yeah. I’d be anywhere my treasure wants me to be.
It’s easy for Rook to imitate Norwegian, but Ace finds it hard to follow after French. He insists to try multiple phrased with butchered pronunciation, until one day Lion goes
They hardly stay silent together until there is a YouTube video to get sucked into. Ace has been making TikTok videos for some time, and since Rook likes to participate, it’s almost always noisy around them. Do they not shush after the TikTok production? Kind of. They have friends to chat with, gatherings to be and play stereo in their spare time. But if we have to choose who talks less, it would be Rook who finds himself focusing on a new hobby he loves to indulge on during his break.
Who is the highest maintenance? Does the other mind?
Ace likes to take care of himself. Exercise, skincare, fashion. Think of Patrick Bateman from American Psycho, but less intensive? He does care to some degree. Rook doesn’t mind until he has to put some restrictions on what he can cook and eat, because at times Ace feels too hungry whenever Rook walks by with his bowl of crisps or Doritos. Rook tells Ace that the man looks stunning and beautiful without all the effort, and at times Ace varies from “Aw, thank you, sweet cheeks,” to “I wish everybody would think that as well.”
Who is more inclined to be jealous or possessive?
I feel like Ace is the one who wants Rook’s entire attention on him, but he must realise that his French softie is a genuinely kind person who likes to be friends with everybody. Rook is truly a sunshine that likes to give people warm hugs and words, and this leads him to spend more time with other people than Ace. Rook is also the kind who lets Ace do whatever he wants at a party, so whenever Ace tries to incite jealousy from Rook by having a crowd around himself, it doesn’t work the way he wants it to be.
When Ace talks about this with Rook, it sounds a little childish but he feels like it needs to be addressed. “Sometimes I feel like you don’t care, Juls. What if someone was out there flirting with me?”
Rook is usually happy-go-lucky and casual, but this is when he settles down to show his full attention towards the love of his life. A gentle squeeze of hand, slight, gracious smile and loving gaze, “they can flirt all they want, but I know you will always come back to me.”
And that’s how Ace melts all over again. He may have the same doubt again whenever Rook remains as the warmth that radiates over all who he cares. Ace may feel like the iceberg that feels all too small before the heat, but little he knows is that Rook always finds the glittering, shining magnificence that is of Håvard Haugland.
Who gets cold the easiest?
Rook is not used to cold climates, so he snuggles into Ace’s arms during chilly nights. Ace doesn’t mind having his blankets stolen, so it's their usual morning look to find Rook wrapped like a caterpillar while Ace pinching on what little cover he can salvage. They always go to sleep as big and little spoons, so if Rook ever wakes up first but wants to stay in bed a little longer, he would spread the blanket over them and wriggled back into Ace’s embrace.
Do they ever trade clothes?
It’s not like they ‘trade,’ but Ace likes to wear Rook’s clothes despite the height difference. It is true that Rook is proportionately broader than Ace, but because Ace is taller, Rook’s shirts, jackets and sweaters fit Ace fine. It is well known that Ace wears anything that has Rook’s name to show everybody that they are together, and he often wears Rook’s pants too. If people comment that the length is too short for him, Ace would say, “well, guess I can say that we both share the pants in this relationship!”
What do they do when the other is stressed?
Although Rook hardly gets stressed out, Ace would know that his jolly boyfriend needs some time of indulgence. He would tell the man, “you don’t have to make sure that everyone is okay. I am not okay to see you caring for other people when you aren’t feeling fine.” Basically it’s a little prep talk about how being selfish isn’t inherently bad, and if Rook chooses to raid the Nighthaven’s cafeteria, Ace is more than happy to take Rook there for a tour. Rook says that their coffee machine looks nice, so that’s what they are going to do through the whole evening. Kali may give him the stink eye, but this is one of the rarest times for Ace to ignore wherever she is staring at him from.
When Ace feels like he is spending too much on people’s reactions on social media, Rook demands that he holds onto Ace’s phone and tablet the entire day. They should spend a Wi-Fi free date and it shall last until Ace remembers that his worth isn’t dependent on his popularity, and no matter what happens, the good deeds that Ace has accomplished aren’t a thing of the past. Rook takes Ace to his house for a distraction, and their most recent activity to do together is pottery. Rook’s mother sent him a pedal shift some time ago (because she is the queen of ever-changing interest in her life,) and Rook found it quite therapeutic to have his hand slide against the soft and yet firm clay. Ace manages to make a mug, and despite it breaking multiple times while being roasted in a kiln, he finally manages to make one that has both of their names on it.
