Work Text:
As soon as the final customers of the day have left, Remus closes the door behind them. The bakery was supposed to close almost an hour and a half ago, but Valentine’s Day is always one of the busiest days of the year, and with two people calling in sick this morning - leaving Remus and Sirius to cope on their own - it was nearly impossible to get through the seemingly never ending line of customers. They have barely gotten a chance to eat or drink, and by the time Remus flips the sign over from ‘open’ to ‘closed’, he feels like his legs are about to give out.
“Finally,” he sighs, turning around to check to make sure Sirius is okay - as he kept disappearing to the back, looking flushed and frazzled. But when he turns, Sirius is gone again. He goes over to the back, but he finds the door blocked, and for a moment he worries that Sirius has fainted due to a lack of food, but when he hears rustling in the room, he rolls his eyes. “What are you doing in there?” he laughs, shaking his head.
“You’ll see!”
Remus is too tired for this, and all he wants to do is go home, order a pizza and put his feet up, but he can’t exactly walk out on his boyfriend on Valentine’s Day, can he?
“Close your eyes!” Sirius orders after a minute or two, and Remus doubts it’s a good idea to do so, as the back of the bakery is a mess where he nearly trips a dozen times on a good day. But he does as he is told, and after he hears the door open, he feels Sirius wrap his arms around his waist, before leading him into the back.
“You know that what we did in here last year was a one-off, right? I’m not risking my job, so…”
Sirius shushes him by kissing the back of his neck and teasing him by squeezing his sides.
“Go on, open your eyes,” he laughs.
Remus wasn’t sure what to expect, but last Valentine’s Day Sirius’ idea of romance was going for a walk in the freezing cold and buying him a cup of tea. So he’s a little shocked to see the crate turned over and set up as a table. There’s a lit candle on top of it, and they both have plates of what looks to be dark chocolate brownies.
“Did you…?”
“I know it’s no fancy dinner.” Sirius rubs his hand over the back of his neck self consciously, “And you’re probably sick of the sight of cake after today, but…”
Remus turns around and he slams into him, kissing him before he can put himself down even more. Because no, it’s no fancy dinner, and yes, he’s a little bit sick of the sight of cake after selling hundreds of them, but who cares? This is perfect.
They sit down on the ground, and after not having eaten a thing today, Remus happily tucks into his brownie.
“Are these…”
“There are cherries in them,” Sirius smiles. “I asked Sal to make them especially for you, but I haven’t tried them yet. Are they good?”
Remus can’t answer, as he already has another mouthful of the chocolatey goodness in his mouth. But he finally nods, smiling happily. “Delicious.”
Sirius takes a bite of his brownie, a sound escaping from somewhere deep down inside of him that makes him blush deeply, but that makes Remus laugh out loud.
“Should I be jealous?” he teases, and even in the candlelight he can see Sirius’ cheeks growing redder. He takes his hand, and he gives it a squeeze, smiling, “Thank you.”
“This isn’t your gift.”
“It’s not?”
“This is.” Sirius wipes his hands on his jeans, before taking something small out of the pocket of his apron and handing it to Remus.
Remus isn’t sure what he’s looking at, because it’s a random key, and he’s pretty sure he liked the cherry brownies better than some random old key. But still, he smiles through his disappointment and he gives a nod.
“Thanks…”
“It’s the key to my flat,” Sirius chuckles nervously.
“So I can come over?” Remus checks, but from the smile on his boyfriend’s face he can tell that no, that was not what his intention for the key was. “Are you asking me to move in with you?”
Sirius gives a nod, before quickly adding, “Unless you think it’s too soon.”
“Too soon?” Remus laughs, because he was ready to move in with Sirius as soon as they had left school, but seeing as Sirius never mentioned it, he figured he was the one who wasn’t ready yet. “I guess I’ll start packing my things, then.”
“But not tonight.”
“No.” Remus agrees. “How about we stay at mine tonight?”
“And order a pizza and watch a movie?” Sirius suggests, before pointing at the rest of the brownies in the box, “And take these with us?”
“See, this is why I love you.” Remus smiles - as being curled up on the couch, sharing a pizza and brownies while watching a movie sounds like a pretty perfect Valentine’s Day.
“Because I can get you free cakes?” Sirius teases, before shoving another mouthful of brownie into his mouth.
“Exactly.”
