Work Text:

“Lilith!”

Lilith turned her head, fingers twitching as her lips curled down. That obnoxious voice… She hated it but also loved it.

Footsteps sounded, rapidly increasing to catch up with the taller female. Leo abruptly slowed down, falling into step with Lilith.

“Lilith.” He spoke again, reaching over to tug on her wrist. Stopping, Lilith yanked her arm away. She supposed she’d give him a small bit of her day.

“What?” She snapped, folding her arms as she scowled at the bright orange kid. He didn’t seem deterred by her attitude- of course he wasn’t.

Leo and Lilith… weren’t friends. No, not at all. Leo was well liked by the student body- by their peers. He was so nice to everyone, even if they weren’t nice to him. Lilith had never seen him angry. Part of her didn’t want to find out.

Lilith, on the other hand… she was feared, and she was hated. By the students, at least. Everyone who were her friends only were friends with her to avoid being bullied. Or, just hated the world, like her.

She zoned back in time to hear Leo finish whatever he was saying.

“--- Valentine's Day yesterday.”

Lilith arched an eyebrow, pretending to know what the context was.

“Yes, yes it was.” Liam had given her some flowers- so had some other kids. As much as Lilith liked the flowers, it had always felt a bit too cheesy to her.

“I got all my friends presents, but I noticed that you seemed a bit lonely, yesterday!” Leo smiled in a sympathetic manner, planting his hands on his hips. Lilith scowled darkly at the implication. She didn’t need his pity.

“What are you getting at Valiente?” She demanded harshly, now glaring full force down at him. Annoyingly, he wasn’t affected. If anything, Leo just laughed, rubbing the back of his neck.

“Sorry, sorry! I didn’t mean to offend you! But, uh..” He dipped his hand into his bookbag, pulling out a heart shaped container.

“I bought you chocolate! You look to me like the kind of person to enjoy sweets, so…” Leo grinned toothily, holding the container out to Lilith. “Don’t worry, it’s not melted.”

Lilith’s mouth shamefully dropped open as she completely lost her composure. He got her something?

Leo… what was his deal? Lilith couldn’t figure him out.

“Lilith?” Leo scrunched his face up, visibly confused. “Are you alright? Are you sick?”

His voice had jolted Lilith out of her shock. She reached forward, snatching the box from him. Her cheeks burned- she couldn’t tell if she was embarrassed or flustered. She was lucky no one else seemed to be around.

Lilith cleared her throat awkwardly. She supposed she should thank him.. It was the polite option, or whatever.

“Thanks.” She coughed out. “I, um… will eat these.” She mustered another glare, though it was half-hearted.

Leo lit up like lights on Christmas Eve. His eyes sparkled. He was just so.. So… Lilith didn’t know how to describe him.

With a huff, she turned away. Clenching the box in her hands, Lilith stormed away. Stupid Leo. Stupid Leo.

Leo’s annoying laughter followed her.

Lilith knew this was going to bite her in the ass. Everyone tomorrow will be whispering about her- how she fell to an ‘epic prank’. At least, that’s what she convinced herself.

The chocolates were genuine. Lilith sat on her bed, holding one of the bite sized morsels between her pointer finger and thumb. She’d already taken a small bite out of it, despite the consequences it’d undoubtedly bring.

Lilith sat up, placing the chocolate back in the box. She felt sick- her first meal of the day had been a fucking chocolate. Thus, her body was going to kill her for this.

Getting up, Lilith picked up the box. She moved out of her room, down the silent hall, all the way to the kitchen. She then made a beeline for the bin. She opened said thing, and did the opposite of what she’d told Leo she’d do-

Lilith tossed the chocolate in the trash.

She told herself that it was nothing against him- that it was simply her ‘diet’.

Lilith still felt horrible.

Emotions sucked.
