You had been awfully quiet the whole day and that stirred up something in Ayato's chest. As his most trusted assistant (and significant other), you accompanied him to all the meetings he had to attend. To say it was overwhelming would be an understatement. Especially for someone who runs on low social battery all the time.
He watched you as you two made your way back to the Kamisato estate. Your eyes were half-lidded, robbed of their usual spark and the dark circles under them were concerningly noticeable. Dealing with irritating people on a daily basis and worrying about various tasks that need to be done was taking its toll on you.
It's true that Ayato was the one who had it even rougher, but he could also handle being socially involved better than you. It still made you feel guilty about your attitude at the moment, the guilt only adding more weight on your shoulders.
You two walked in silence for the rest of the way, the first noise to be heard was your quiet sigh once you the door of the estate closed behind you. You muttered a quiet 'goodnight' to the blue haired man before heading to your room. However, before you could go in, he gently grabbed your wrist, turning your attention back to him. "Do you need to talk about it?"
You looked down and shook your head. "I'm fine", you just wanted to sleep. Just to escape from this awfully tiring daily routine even if for a few hours. "How about some cuddles then?" he said softly with a kind smile adoring his face. Even if mostly unnoticeable, he saw the way your face lit up a bit at his suggestion.
You wordlessly nodded as his hand brushed some loose strands of hair away from your face and sweetly kissed your forehead. You entered your room together and began undressing into something more comfortable. Once both of you were done, you climbed into the bed and embraced each other.
That night, no words were shared. Instead you basked in each other's presence and exchanged little kisses and affections. Unlike the recent nights, you didn't have any trouble falling asleep while he kept you warm and protected from everything in the world.
The next morning, you were surprised to wake up with the sun already pretty high in the sky. What was even more surprising was that your lover was still by your side. "Ayato?" you propped up on your elbow to look at him, silently asking why both of you were still in bed in this late hour.
He was already wide awake and simply smiled at you. "Good morning, love" he acted as if this was completely normal. After going over the schedule for today in your mind, you remembered all the meetings you must have missed. "I asked Thoma to cancel everything for today. We have a day off, just for ourselves"
You smiled, already feeling much more relaxed. The long sleep you got along with a whole day just for you and Ayato to spend doing whatever you two liked was truly what you needed. You sinked back down to his chest, nuzzling up to him as close as you could. He chuckled and caressed your head, leaving a kiss to the top of it. "Thank you" you whispered and hugged him tighter.
The two of you spent the rest of the day in bed, took a few naps in the meantime and just chatted about everything and anything. With your mind less troubled and clearer you could see you weren't the only one who was in need of this unexpected break. He also looked a lot more relaxed and rested after this lazy day.
So it's good to take a break every once in a while...
