Aether smiled slightly to himself. He had run away from his duties as the Prince of the Abyss for a little to check up on his little sister. Last time he could see her starting to understand how corrupt and cruel this world was, how people here would simply use you to get their way with absolutely no consideration as to what state you would be left in.
He neared the place where he knew her daily commission would bring her, enjoying the rare sunny weather, and stopped suddenly in his tracks, when he felt that presence. His lips curled up in a snarl and he turned around, just in time to see Dainsleif slipping out of the tree's shadow.
"Dain," he snarled, "fancy seeing you here," traitor, he added in his mind. He frowned, when the other man did not react at all, looking into his eyes deeply with something indescribable hiding in his gaze.
"She is gone," Dainsleif stated simply, with no preamble. His voice was cold but with a touch of sadness that seemed as distant as the twins' home planet. Aether titled his head in confusion.
"You came here just to tell me she's finished the commission already? That's a cheap excuse, even for you," as Aether said that, something changed in Dainsleif's eyes and the weather seemed to reflect that, as dark stormy clouds appeared in the sky seemingly out of nowhere. Perhaps Barbatos was upset about something.
"She's dead, Aether," Dainsleif said, this time anger slipping into his voice, like he couldn't believe that Aether would not take him seriously. The world seemed to tilt sideways and the blonde staggered, like a puppet whose strings were cut off.
"Impossible, you're lying, just trying to get to me!" he hissed. The thoughts of his precious little sister being harmed, being dead, being gone were rushing through his head alongside a constant stream of no, no, nonono"NO!"
Dainsleif shook his head and moved slowly towards the edge of the cliff they were standing on and pointed towards the raging Yaksha who seemed to want to destroy everything that could ever touch the body near him. The body… white dress stained with red, blond hair stained… stained with red… everything around her, stained with her blood.
The ground below them shook and started falling apart, the sky turning a bloody colour similar to the one surrounding Lumine's body. Aether's scream of anguish making everything around them tear itself apart, his long lost powers seeming to make a comeback in the worst way possible. Dainsleif took a step back. While he knew Aether was powerful and that the twins were extremely close, he never expected such a reaction, the world simply falling apart under the weight of the blonde's grief. I have to warn everyone, he thought, but before he could teleport away, a tree trunk slammed into him, making him fly off the cliff.
"YOU WERE HERE AND YOU DIDN'T HELP HER," Aether screamed… although a more accurate description would be that everything screamed in a deafening cacophony. "You will pay for this. Everyone who mistreated her, this entire world… You will all pay for this." he said, a sudden calm overtaking his features. Dainsleif's heart seemed to stop beating as he saw the cold, emotionless face. They were all done for.
A wave of red light that exploded from Aether's body was the last thing Dainsleif and everyone else in this world saw, as whatever the light touched turned into ashes. The only thing that seemed protected from the divine wrath was the body of its counterpart.
Aether knelt on the burned ground in front his sister and bowed his head, tears finally gathering in his eyes.
"Non posso darle altro se non un addio,"* he whispered, something wet sliding down his face and landing on Lumine's cheek. Aether sighed, "I will join you soon, just wait for me," more droplets fell on the peaceful face, creating red rivulets that slid down, mixing with her own blood on the ground. Aether's body was wracked with sobs, more bloody tears falling down. The power that destroyed the world was slowly destroying him as well. Just a bit more and he's going to join her.
Just a bit more.
