Work Text:
Donghyuk is wearing long sleeves in the middle of July.
He never does that. He always complains about sweating and being too hot. It's strange to the rest of his members, but he just puts it off as ‘trying a new style’. But that's another thing; Donghyuk’s style has never really changed since high school, he says he likes the way his current clothes fit. It's all so different to Jaemin. Donghyuk is different , and not the good kind of different. Every time Jaemin goes to hug him he gets pushed away, when he tries to hold Donghyuk’s hand he closes his fist, when Jaemin tries to kiss him he turns his head.
It's all so weird. Donghyuk is acting weird. And it terrifies Jaemin, it scares him so much.
“Am I not good enough?” He thinks, “Has he gotten tired of me?”
Jaemin just wants to know why. Why is he acting this way? Why has his precious sun started to set?
But slowly yet surely, the sky fades from orange to red, purple to blue, and then to pitch black. And like that Donghyuk was gone, leaving Jaemin stranded in the dark; searching for his light, his sun, his Haechan, his Donghyuk.
As Jaemin sits on the cold wooden floor of the broken apartment he wonders,
“How did I not sense it?” How did the light of his life dim so quickly? When all he ever did was brighten Jaemin’s life, maybe Jaemin never lit up vividly enough for his lover.
Maybe Jaemin couldn't keep him alive. Maybe Donghyuk was never meant to endure his internal pain to bring Jaemin healing. Maybe Donghyuk couldn't be a star on Earth, but Jaemin knew he was still the brightest star in the universe after all.
