Chapter Text
Toogata began to lead him out of the alley as Izuku tried to come to terms with what had happened. He couldn’t save her. She had specifically asked for his help and he had had to let her go. Guilt, confusion, and horror turned in his gut as he kept his eyes trained on Lemillion’s cape in front of him, all of his will-power focused on restraining himself from dashing back toward the little girl who was so clearly in danger.
Izuku was brought roughly out of his thoughts when his vision was suddenly overwhelmed with indistinguishable shapes and colors and he was physically knocked to the ground.
“Woah!” He heard Toogata exclaim as he did his best to come back to himself and prepare to fight.
As soon as he was able to see properly again, he found his own face staring back at him. He activated One For All and widened his stance, watching as the face of the imposter in front of him turned from confusion to shock.
“It’s the League, Lemillion! Toga must have gotten ahold of my blood somehow,” Izuku readied himself to attack and defend, trusting Toogata to do the same and face off against the villains he could see in his peripheral vision.
“I’m not Toga-chan! How are you doing that?” His imposter asked.
“Deku, wait.” Toogata’s voice brought his attention and gaze to him where he found his senpai was in an identical situation, standing across from himself. “They can’t both be Toga.”
“Not unless Twice made a copy of her,” Izuku pointed out. Toga had tricked him plenty of times in the past and he wasn’t going to let his guard down and let himself and Toogata get hurt, captured, or worse.
“We’re not with the League! And neither is Toga-chan, for that matter, so why would Twice make copies of her? Not that he even could from a Tartarus prison cell,” his body double brought his attention back to him and Izuku noticed his hands had moved to hover over the guns on his thighs, ready to draw at a moment’s notice.
“Deku-kun,” both Toogatas said at the same time before glancing at each humorously. One gestured to the other to continue and Izuku couldn’t figure out which was the original and which was the imposter.
“We need to call Nighteye, both about our current situation and Chisaki. Let’s all calm down until we get this figured out,” he said with a reassuring smile while pulling out his phone.
The Toogata not on the phone stared at Izuku for a moment before sharing a meaningful look with his gun-wielding counterpart. That answered which Toogata was which, then. It made Izuku ever-more suspicious that this was some villainous trick, but the strange things his twin had said were a little too odd to be a diversion and trick. Not to mention that running smack into the people they were trying to impersonate was probably the least effective way to infiltrate Nighteye's agency, or whatever the goal would have been, and all together the details just weren’t adding up.
“Alright, Nighteye is sending over a car to our location because he doesn’t want a bunch of people to see us in doubles. We'll go back to Nighteye’s agency and we can figure out what’s happened.”
The two Toogatas chatted amiably as they waited in the alley. Izuku was still too nervous about revealing anything to try to join in, not to mention still spiraling after their encounter with Chisaki, and he could tell his double felt the same, a careful and suspicious look on his face that Izuku could feel on his own. He took a closer look at his twin then and noticed just how different their costumes were. They had the same color scheme, sort of, but the other’s was much darker and was completely lacking the - totally subtle - All Might imagery of his own. Not to mention the guns, knives, and grappling hook. He saw the other Midoriya was taking him in much the same way, taking a long look at his hood and mask before frowning at him consideringly.
“So, other-Duku-kun, why do you have those guns? Does it have something to do with your quirk?” Izuku’s Toogata asked. Their alternates looked briefly surprised before they shared another meaningful look. The tension which had eased slowly before had come sharply back and Toogata looked confused as to why his question had brought with it such an air of intensity.
Izuku’s duplicate had taken on a hardened expression and looked warily at both of them. “I think we should save any further conversation for after our talk with Sir Nighteye.”
The car mercifully pulled up shortly after that and Izuku pulled his hood on and his mask up, hoping that would make himself and his twin look different enough to not attract attention. His duplicate pulled out a mask of his own, this one green, black, and red and fit more snugly to his face. He pushed a button on the side of it and Izuku’s suspicion ramped up again.
The two Lemillions sunk into the ground. One gave a thumbs up just before he disappeared completely, “see you guys in the car!” With that, they quickly made their ways out of the alley and into the SUV parked just outside, moving as quickly as possible. Both Toogatas popped out from the car floor and got into their seats just before the car started driving.
