Chapter Text
Dipper was in his room playing video games, trying to distract himself from the awful night. Going to Prom without a date or his friends, was a terrible idea. If only he wasn’t persuaded by his sister and parents. The last big day of their school life, you can't miss it . They were quite persistent, making promises they couldn’t keep, like I will be with you all the night bro bro , only for him to lose her to friends and date. He removed himself from the group and went home. The place was empty, their parents went out, sure they will still be at the after-party. Nope.
Time passed and dipper heard the front door open followed by someone running up the stairs to enter Mabel’s room. His brotherly instincts kick in, he needed to move. He stopped himself with the hand in the knob, took a big breath, and calm down.
“Mabel? Can I come in?” he asked.
Dipper stud in the door of her room for a while. He still waited for her answer.
“It’s open”
And so he got in. The lights were off, letting the fluorescent light of her room and her dress shine. She was still wearing it, a homemade prom dress, from the fabrics, design, and accessories. Months of work for the big day. Now, she was in bed on that same big day. He took the desk chair and got closer to her. She had her arm hagging off the bed, so he took it, gently. He felt her squeezing him, he assumed it as permission to hold hers.
Time passed, he was in the same position, still holding hands, he waited, knowing that he couldn’t pressure her to talk. So he waited.
She then moved her head showing her face. She had been crying. Why? What happened? He thought, resisting the urge to boom her with questions. More than understanding the situation it was getting to help her, if that was talking to him then so be it.
“Mabel?” he said and received a snarl as a response. Then he waited.
“Aiden kiss me” she finally said. Oh, ok, she kissed her date. But that doesn’t tell me anything. What did he do? He felt his anger boiling up, so he breathe deeply, in and out, there was more. He shouldn’t jump to conclusions, but still, he asked.
“Did he force you?”
“No!” she jumped to his defense. “He would never”
“Then, what’s wrong?” Dipper said with pleading eyes. Those eyes seem to be too much for her. She moved her head, not looking at him.
Silence, time passed, he waited.
“I like someone else”
Silence, he waited.
“When I kiss Aiden I just could think in this other guy”
Uhmm, I get feeling guilty, she going out with Aiden knowing that she likes someone else. There is more, but how far she will tell? how much she should tell me?
“It’s OK Mabel,” he said and squeeze her hand. “You like someone else, you don’t have a choice on that” no answer, maybe he was talking with a wall but he needed to say it. “Aiden may be over heels for you but you don't own him your love. You even give him a chance, there is nothing more you could do”
Silence, time passed.
“I wanted to like him, so much” she was crying once again, she was talking between sniffs. “He is the boy of my dreams and he loves me. but you are right you can’t choose”
God, how I never heard of this. Who is that guy?
“Yeah, he is quite your type. A great guy” he admitted, after so long knowing the guy dipper felt some sympathy, a quiet jump from the constant envy. Dream boy for sure with all, well except Mabel. It's not like he had her either. N-not like he wanted her. “And who is the lucky boy. Do I know him?”
Silence.
Did I go too far? Maybe she isn’t ready to tell if ever.
Time passed, he waited.
He was ready to call it to quit.
“Yes,” she said with a weak voice, he barely could hear her. “You do”
Uhmm, I wonder. But still why she is like this. Did this guy do something?
“So… What happen?” he asked prepared to not be answered.
“He doesn’t or will ever love me”
So she got rejected, she really love that boy. He thought while feeling pangs in the stomach that he fervently try to ignore.
“It’s OK Mabel, you try it, you confess that’s the only thing you could do. That boy clearly can’t recognize a such wonderful girl even when one is showing her love for him.”
“I never confess” oh .
“How you are so sure?” he was getting impatient, this made no sense to him. Why is she so miserable?
Silence, he breathed in and out.
Who is this boy? I know him apparently, but I don’t think there is someone that Mabel likes like that. Not this much, not this sincerely.
“Mabel. I don’t know all that is going on. But I think you should tell him. Get a proper rejection or who knows a yes. You and he needed it”
He waited but it was already late, and it did not look that she had something more to tell him. He decided to leave, letting her hand hang
again. He slowly closed the door.
He was back in his room, the game still on pause, he turn it off and went to his bed. Now alone he could let show all his worries, he hoped she felt better in the morning.
He took his phone in need of distraction, anything. Then he saw a message from Mabel. He opened it nervous.
-Dipper, I told you, you know him.
A photo was attached still blurry, still to be downloading. So he did.
"Oh"
