Work Text:

Things are so easily broken, even after all the time and effort that are put into making them. Hours of hard work and labor, limited resources, smashed into a thousand tiny pieces within just a few seconds. This is the case for many things however. Glass, Artwork, People.

Dream of course knew this. Knew the fragility of everything, and was fascinated by the concept. The concept that everything can be broken, it’s just a matter of how long it takes. Unlike in the case of glass, you cannot just break a person in a couple seconds. It takes time, effort, energy, but once it’s done, as everything else, they can never go back to being the same.

With this in mind, he set out to find someone. Someone to break, someone that he could proudly say that he had successfully broken. This person just happened to be TommyInnit. A challenge of course, considering his pride and his overwhelming wariness of people. But that is what Dream wanted. A challenge.

So he set Tommy up, trying to find things to frame him for just for his plan to be set in action. That was until, Tommy made a grave mistake. This was, of course, burning down George’s mushroom house. Accident or not, it was still something to pin, something like obtaining a hammer to smash a glass window.

But even after all that trouble, the pain and labor Dream had put into successfully breaking Tommy, he was sure it hadn’t worked. When he had given Dream that look of pure dependence in exile, where he had no one else, had shifted into the face of pure disgust. Dream was, understandably, frustrated with this. He knew deep down, however, that there is no way to put broken glass back together. No way to fix a broken painting back to how it was. No way to fix a broken mindset.

And Dream was right. Because sitting on the portal in Logstedshire, he saw the fear in Tommy’s eyes, and he knew then and there, that not even humans are capable of being repaired. Tommy was still broken.
