Work Text:

Remus never was very fond of large events. And James’s wedding was no exception.

Lily and James dance, smiling and laughing over some joke James probably made. Euphemia dances with her own husband. Sirius and Peter are dancing together– well, not really dancing. More so holding hands and swinging in circles. Alice and Frank were drinking some of the white wine while talking, smiling and blushing about one another’s company. Marlene and Dorcas– wait… They’d probably left already.

Mary is walking over to Remus.

“I’m gonna head out. Tell Lily and James I left?” She smiles, then yawns.

“For sure.” Remus says back, just barely loud enough that she can hear him.

She makes her leave, waving to him on her way out. He waves back, then turns back to watching his friends dance. Peter seems to have had enough of Sirius’s terrible dancing skills. Sirius laughs as Peter raises his hands above his head to say he’s backed out.

Remus smiles. Sirius looks in his direction, smirking and running over, tossing himself into Remus’s arms. Remus laughs and catches him, giving him a squeeze.

“Come dance with me?” Sirius grins.

Remus thinks for a moment. “Are you going to swing me ‘round like you’ve done to poor Peter?”

Sirius turns his head and looks at his friend, who is bent over the trashcan in the corner, throwing up his entire day’s worth of food. Sirius turns back to Remus, and immediately beams a glorious smile again. “I’ll go easy on you.”

“Oh really?” Remus crosses his arms with a smirk, “I think you’re a liar.”

“I’m notttttt!” Sirius whines, grabbing Remus’s hand and giving them a tug. “PUH-LEEEEEAAAASSSEEE!”

“Okay, fine!” Remus chuckles, letting himself be pulled onto the dance floor. Sirius gives him a horrible smolder in an attempt to beg for something Remus wasn’t sure of. “What is it?” Remus laughs.

“I want to be the ‘man’ this time.” Sirius smirks, putting his hands on Remus’s waist.

Remus moves Sirius’s arms to his shoulders with a laugh, “Know your place, peasant.” And wraps his arms around Sirius’s waist.

“Oh right, my bad, your majesty.”

“WEEE!!!” Sirius screeches, winding them both up and trying to spin. “C’mon don’t be so boring Moony!”

Remus gives in with a big smile and spins them around, laughing as Sirius’s feet start to rise from the floor. He hears laughter come from Sirius as well. After what feels like hours (but was probably only a few minutes), Remus puts him down, breathless.

“I’m getting tired.” Remus says, “I’m probably going home soon.”

“One more dance?” Sirius begs.

“Oh, I dunno if I can do that again–”

“No, a serious one.” Sirius smirks mischievously, about to make a name pun. “And not my kind of ‘Sirius’.”

“You’ll be good at dad jokes some day.” Remus laughs, catching his breath and grabbing onto Sirius to dance one last time.

“Who’s to say I’m not already?” Sirius beams.

“You’ve got to be a dad to get the full effect.”

“Gross.”

Remus cackles, throwing his head back in cheerful bliss. He feels something against his chest, and looks down to see Sirius resting against him. Once more, Remus is smiling, ear to ear.

James looks at them from where he’s standing about 15 feet away. He gives Remus a silent cheer with a fist pump and a mouthing of “GO MOONY!”. Lily notices and puts a hand over her mouth, gasping silently, then copying her new husband. Remus closes his eyes in embarrassment and shakes his head with a silent chuckle.

A few songs pass. Remus finally decides to stop for the night. He lets go of Sirius, whose face is quite flushed. Remus smiles, then checks his watch. It’s 2 a.m.

“I should probably be going now…” Remus says, looking at the floor, scuffling his feet in a nervous manner.

“Uh… Yeah.”

“Yeah.”

Sirius stares at him awkwardly. Remus does the same.

“MERLIN’S FUCKING BALLS JUST KISS ALREADY!” Lily yells, far over watching their googoo eyes and sappy pinning.

Her husband joins in, “YEAH JUST DO IT!”

“I WILL WHEN YOU STOP BEING A NIKE AD, JAMES!” Sirius yells back, then turns to Remus and pulls him down to his level, then holding onto his face and kissing his cheek, “Farewell your majesty, for I am afraid we will never speak again because you know my secret and I am just a mere peasant.”

“It’s more of a mutual thing.” Remus says back, grinning wider than he ever has.

Sirius’s face almost splits in two. He grabs Remus by the collar again and puts a kiss on his lips instead.

“3 CHEERS FOR MY GAY BEST FRIENDS, AND 3 MORE FOR JUST DOIN’ IT!”

Sirius bursts into laughter. Remus supposes he can make an exception for James’s wedding after all.
