Work Text:
People always say that New York is the city that never sleeps, and as she lays in her bed, tossing and turning, Y/N Y/L/N has never identified with that sentiment more than she has in this very moment. It’s her own fault really. She’s been staying up late every night for the past week, stressing over a university paper, and now, when she finally wants to sleep, she can’t. Groaning, she turns back onto her left side, looking over at the clock on her bedside table. The red numbers read 2.47am back at her. Sighing, she gets out of bed and makes her way to the kitchen to make herself a mug of tea and get a snack. Even if the tea doesn’t make her feel sleepy, it at least gives her something to do. Carrying the steaming mug back to her room with a chocolate brownie in her spare hand, Y/N glances out of her window and decides to sit on her fire escape instead of her bed. For a few minutes, she sits there alone, drinking her tea and listening to the noises of cars and people around her. That is, however, until she hears another window opening above her. She looks up, and sees someone emerging from her upstairs neighbour’s window. For a moment, she wonders if it’s a burglar, and considers launching her mug of tea at the figure as a deterrent…until she sees a metal arm shining in the light.
“Bucky?” At the mention of his name, Bucky looks around, clearly wondering where the noise came from. “Down here.” He peers down over the barrier, and Y/N waves at him.
“Oh…hey Y/N.” The two neighbours had only seen each other in passing a few times since Y/N had moved in, but still greeted each other with a friendly smile and a few hellos. “Can’t sleep either, huh?” He asks.
“Yup. Wanna come sit with me? Misery loves company and all that. And besides, it beats talking up and down to each other.” Y/N offers. Even though she and Bucky aren’t that close, it’s nice to be nice. And besides, Y/N has found herself wanting to get to know her attractive upstairs neighbour ever since she saw him for the first time. And what better way to do so? Shrugging, Bucky climbs down the stairs towards Y/N’s fire escape, and sits down on the bottom step. “Hey.” She smiles.
“Uh…thanks for inviting me to sit here.” Bucky mumbles. It’s been so long since someone invited him to spend time with them that when Y/N asked him to join her, he jumped at the chance. Even though he still doesn’t know her that well, it beats being alone. She doesn’t have to know about his loneliness though.
“No worries. It’s nice to get to know you. Do you want some tea? I think this one is a specific tea to help you feel sleepy. Maybe some water? A Coke? Or a snack? I have some brownies.” She holds up her one to show him. “Or there’s some fruit…or cookies. I might have some pizza or chips actually…” Bucky laughs as she rambles on about the contents of her kitchen.
“No thanks. I’m alright. Thanks though.” But his heart softens a little at the offer anyway. It’s nice to finally feel included, and to have someone who isn’t Sam or Steve be nice to him. “So…um, how have you been? Done any…things recently?” He asks. Even if he feels better about being included, it doesn’t mean he feels any less awkward about socialising. After all, all of his friends are Avengers…well. Some of them are his friends, others just tolerate him. He doesn’t blame them though. Most of them know his past, and what he did to Tony’s parents. And of course, he tried to kill some of them. No wonder they’re still a bit apprehensive whenever he walks up to them. Not to mention that being blipped and disappearing for a few years doesn’t really help with making friends either. This is the first time in a long time that he’s spoken to a normal person.
But when he says normal, he doesn’t mean it in a bad way. He means that he doesn’t have to speak about fighting other super soldiers or aliens with her, and can just talk about regular things…like why the hell she keeps listening to the same song everyday at almost full volume, or where she learned to cook, because sometimes he can smell her dinner through their open windows and god it smells so good. Or if she maybe wants to get a drink with him sometime. Because the first time he saw her, Bucky felt butterflies in his stomach all over again, like when he used to take girls out with Steve. But if he’s being honest, Y/N knocks those girls out of the park. And now here he is, sitting on their fire escape with her at almost 3am on a Friday night.
“I’m…good?” Y/N answers, and he raises an eyebrow inquisitively.
“That doesn’t sound convincing.” She sighs, and explains.
“I’ve been working on a paper for my classes. I’m a lawyer…well, I’m studying to be a lawyer.” She clarifies. “Hopefully I’ll specialise in human rights.” Bucky notices her face light up with hope and dreams as she says that, and it makes him feel all warm inside. Even though he doesn’t know her too well, Y/N seems like a great person. He wishes he remembers what that feels like. After having his memories wiped so many times, there isn’t much that Bucky does remember. Even the memory of him and Steve going out with girls is one of a handful of memories he has been able to cling onto. “Anyway, this paper has been kicking my ass all week. I’ve been staying up late, trying to see it with fresh eyes and stuff like that…and it is just not working.” She sighs, sounding defeated. “It took me long enough to save up enough money for this degree. Way too many shifts in retail. Like far too many.” Bucky chuckles softly at that. She reminds him of Steve before he became Captain America. Just a little kid from Brooklyn who wanted to save the world, and kept persevering despite everything in his way. And just like that, the warm feeling is replaced by a sinking feeling. He misses Steve everyday. Maybe if Steve was still here, Bucky wouldn’t be so fucked up. But instead of saying anything about it, he instead says:
“Ah, you’re going to save the world, huh?” Y/N looks confused for a moment, then starts laughing.
“Bucky, you’re literally an Avenger. If either of us are going to save the world, it’s probably you.” She points out. Bucky’s smile falls.
“I wasn’t always one.” He mumbles. Immediately, Y/N realises she has said something wrong. Of course she knows about the Winter Soldier. After all, she has seen the stories on the news, and the pictures of him standing there with a gun in his hand, pointing it at people. Even though she knows he’s different now, and is no longer the mindless killing machine he once was (after all, he’s sitting across from her and hasn’t tried to kill her), she can’t even imagine how it feels to have to have that weight on your shoulders, and to live with it everyday.
“…I’m sorry Bucky.” She says, hoping he notes the sincerity in her voice. “I know it’s not really my place to say this, since this is our first real conversation in however many weeks, but if you ever need someone to talk to, either for support or to take your mind off of things, my door is always open. I can’t even begin to imagine what it’s like to be in your position right now, and I won’t try to. Just know that you’ve got a friend in me, if you need it. You can even have all the snacks you want.” She chuckles awkwardly. Bucky is silent for a few moments, and she worries she has said the wrong thing again. Meanwhile, Bucky is still trying to process what she just said. She wants to help…him? A former assassin? He came to the conclusion that someone like him didn’t deserve help or sympathy a long time ago. And yet, here Y/N is, offering her help. He doesn’t even know how to reply to her. Actually that’s a lie. He wants to ask her what the fuck she’s doing, offering her help to someone like him. But before he can say something to her, he notices that she’s looking at him with a soft smile on her face. A smile that makes him feel like the sunlight is shining down on him, even though it’s the middle of the night. A smile that actually seems genuine. A smile that makes him want to spend more time with her. And the words tumble out before he can stop them.
“…That sounds…nice. Thank you. I’ll keep it in mind.” Y/N’s smile grows bigger, and Bucky’s warm feeling from before returns, this time even stronger.
Before the pair can continue their conversation however, a window opens above them, and a voice calls out:
“CAN YOU TWO SHUT THE FUCK UP?! I’M TRYING TO SLEEP! I GOT TO GO TO WORK TOMORROW.” The window slams closed, and Y/N and Bucky look over at each other.
“I uh, I guess that’s our cue to head inside.” Y/N laughs. Bucky starts laughing too. Suddenly, Y/N yawns. Bucky chuckles softly.
“I think that’s probably a cue too.” Y/N nods, and climbs back through her window, sitting on her bed. “Night Y/N” He tells her.
“Night Bucky. Remember-“ Y/N is cut off by another yawn.
“I think you need some sleep.” He whispers, smiling softly, bending down to her eye level.
“Okay, but…remember what I said. And make sure you get some sleep too, okay?” Bucky nods, even though all he can think about is the full extent of his nightmares. About the faces that haunt him every time he closes his eyes. And the guilt that plagues his every moment. There’s no way he can ever get to sleep again with that weight on his mind. But instead of telling Y/N that, Bucky wishes her a good nights sleep, and watches as she closes her window and curtains. Once Y/N has disappeared from view, he sighs, lets the smile disappear from his face, and sadly heads back upstairs for another sleepless night.
~*~*~*~*~
A few weeks later
Since the night on their fire escape, Bucky has tried his best to keep Y/N away from him as much as possible. It’s not that he doesn’t want to hang out with her, because he wants that more than anything. He just knows that he can’t. He can’t drag Y/N into his mess. Despite how genuine she seems, Bucky knows she’ll run the second she digs too deep. Everyone else has. So, he always has an excuse for why they couldn’t hang out, and he hopes that Y/N can take the hint, or at least realise that he wasn’t the sort of person she should be hanging out with.
Unfortunately, Y/N hasn’t taken the hint yet. She still manages to bump into Bucky on their fire escape or in the elevator, chatting enthusiastically about her day, and asking if he wants to go see a movie with her, or if he wants to come over for dinner. Other nights, she’s all dressed up to go for a drink with her friends, and asks him if he wants to join them. That’s where he finds her one night as she enters the elevator, her hair looking perfect, and her lips scarlet red.
“You heading out again then?” Bucky asks, already knowing the answer. Y/N laughs.
“It’s that obvious huh? But yes, the semester is over so my friends and I are going out celebrating.” She grins, another famous smile of hers that rivals the sun with its brightness. God she’s so stunning. These nights are the worst, Bucky thinks. When he sees her looking so good, all he wants to do is kiss her. But he knows he can’t. And even though it breaks his heart to keep rejecting her, this is how it has to be. “How about you? You know, you’re welcome to tag along if you want. I’m sure my friends won’t mind a plus one. Especially someone as…att-friendly as you.” Bucky’s eyebrow raises at what she was about to say, but before he can say anything, the elevator reaches the ground floor of their apartment building, and the neighbours step out, heading towards the entrance of their apartment building.
“Thanks, but I can’t. I’m about to meet a friend anyway.” He lies. He was just going to grab some pizza and some beers. But saying that sounds weird. Actually…it wasn’t much of a lie. He’s friends with the pizza store owner. So he was going to see a friend…just not a close one. A look of disappointment crosses Y/N’s face for a moment, but she doesn’t say anything, and it’s replaced by another smile almost immediately. This one, Bucky thinks, looks faker than her usual smiles, but he says nothing anyway.
“Okay. Well, I’ll see you later. Enjoy your night.” Bucky and Y/N wave goodbye to each other, and head in opposite directions. Bucky watches her go, smiling softly as she disappears from sight. He wishes he was going with her. But like he said, this is how it has to be. Sighing, Bucky turns back around and heads towards the pizza store.
~*~*~*~*~
Later that night, Bucky awakens with a start after another nightmare. Empty beer bottles and the remains of his pizza are strewn around him. As he stands up, the bottles around him fall over, spilling their remnants across his floor. Bucky groans. Sometimes he wishes he could get drunk. That way he might finally be able to forget his past, and stop being haunted by it. But of course, nothing works in Bucky’s life: his therapy, his chances of making friends, and everything else. Sighing, he makes his way to his window, and climbs onto his fire escape, inhaling the New York air, the sights of the lights around him, the sounds of music, sirens and…someone crying? He blinks for a moment. Someone below him is definitely crying. Trying to find where the sound is coming from, Bucky tries to focus on it. The sound continues, and Bucky soon realises it’s from directly below him. There’s only one explanation for that.
It’s coming from Y/N’s apartment.
Bucky heads downstairs, hoping she’s just watching a sad movie and that someone hasn’t actually broken her heart. As soon as he reaches the bottom of the stairs, he gets his answer. Y/N is hunched over and leaning out of her window, an almost empty wine glass in her hand. “Y/N?” He asks, walking closer to her window. Y/N looks up, her cheeks streaked with mascara, her lipstick smeared and her nose running. Bucky feels a pang at his heart when he sees her.
“Bucky?” She whispers, her eyes glassy with tears.
“What happened to you?” He asks softly, crouching down in front of her. A tear rolls down her cheek, and it takes all of Bucky’s will power to not reach up and wipe it away with his non metal arm.
“I…” She begins, cutting herself off with a sniffle. “I’ve had the worst night.” The two are silent for a moment as Y/N sniffles, and dabs at her eyes with a tissue clutched in her free hand. Bucky feels slightly alarmed. He’s never had to deal with a girl, much less a girl he has a crush on, crying their eyes out in front of him. All he knows is that he wants to help her. He just doesn’t know how.
“Well do you…do you wanna talk about it?” Y/N sniffles, downs the last of her wine and starts to explain.
“I was out with my friends, well….I don’t know if I’d call them friends at this point, and I went to the bathroom, and when I came back….” She sniffles again, and continues. “I heard them saying that I was annoying and stupid, and that they wanted me to leave them alone. And I went up to ask them if it was me they were talking about, and they just…said it was! They didn’t even fight to reassure me that they liked me. They just…kept going on and on about how shitty I am.” She stops to dab at some new tears, reliving the nights events clearly making her upset. Bucky feels himself getting angrier as he hears her say this. He still barely knows Y/N by this point, but he does know that she’s one of, if not the nicest people he’s ever met, and that she deserves way better than friends like that. “So I left, and for the past two or three hours, I’ve been here, drinking and crying my sorrows out to ABBA with wine. Aaaaand I’m all out.” She sighs. Bucky picks up on the alcohol on her breath.
“Are you okay? Honestly?” He frowns, raising an eyebrow. She laughs at his question, and Bucky is struck by how bitter her laugh sounds. It’s a lot different than her usual, cheerful disposition.
“Okay? You’re asking if I’m okay? No Bucky, of course I’m not okay. Look at me. I’m trying to be a lawyer but can’t even do an assignment without getting stressed and wanting to quit. I’m still in a shitty retail job, and at this rate I’ll probably be stuck there til the end of time. And I can’t tell my parents that, cause they’ll be disappointed in me. But I’m disappointed in myself too, so.” She shrugs, and Bucky tries to stop her, but he can’t before she continues. “And now look! I have no friends!”
“That’s not true-“ He begins, but she cuts him off.
“Isn’t it? I thought those girls were my friends. My only friends. But of course, life decided to take a giant dump on me, and now they hate me. And…” She stops, and takes another moment to dab at her eyes. “And you hate me too.” Bucky frowns.
“What? No, I don’t hate you.” She looks up at him, her eyes threatening to spill over, despite her attempts to stop them.
“Oh come on Bucky, yes you do! It’s obvious! For the past few weeks I’ve been trying to hang out with you, or like, get to know you better, and everytime you have shut me down. And at first I thought, ‘okay, I get it, after what happened to him, he’d be wary about opening up, and that’s fine, I understand!’ But then you just kept avoiding me. And I started to think…surely it must be me, right? He just doesn’t want to see me!” She bursts into tears, and Bucky feels his heart break. When he said he had to keep her at an arms length so he wouldn’t drag her into his mess…this isn’t what he wanted. “And…the thing is, I’m not even mad at you for it! Because maybe you’re all right. Maybe I’m just that horrible a person, and that’s why nobody even cares about me or wants me around.” Now Bucky feels even worse. If that was even possible
“No, you’re not horrible. And I’m sorry I made you think that about yourself.” He feels like the horrible one though, for even letting her think that she is horrible. She is the total opposite. She is sweet and kind, and definitely deserves better than having someone like him as a friend. But despite this, Bucky is immediately faced with a desire to look after her. He’s been unable to get drunk for the past seventy or eighty years, but he still knows that Y/N is going to feel terrible tomorrow. And even though her level of pain is nowhere near comparable to his pain, he wants to help stop it. So when she sits back up, announcing that she’s going to grab another bottle of wine, he quickly jumps in. “No. I think you’ve had enough. But can I come in and keep you company? And we could chat? You deserve an explanation for why I’ve been acting like this.” She frowns. “If it’s okay of course.”
“As a friend?” She asks.
“As a friend.” He confirms.
“…Okay. Come round to my door and I’ll let you in.” She nods, and Bucky does as she asks. As he waits on her to open the door, he can feel his heart racing. Part of him wants to run away, but then he pictures Y/N’s face in his head, and knows he can’t leave her. The door opens, and Y/N pops her head out. Once he sees her up close and in the light, Bucky feels his heart breaking all over again. She looks even more upset up close. “Hi.” She whispers, stepping aside to let him in.
As soon as he walks into her apartment, Bucky is immediately struck by how different her apartment is to his. “This is…nice.” He says, looking around. There are posters and photos covering her walls, and every surface is covered with ornaments and trinkets. A number of blankets and cushions are strewn across her couch, and there’s plants everywhere. It’s kind of a mess, but in the best way. And he means it when he says her apartment is nice. It’s a lot nicer than his anyways. Her apartment looks like a home, while his looks like an empty box. It wasn’t exactly his fault though. He has no memories that he wants to hang on his walls. Most of them…well, almost all of them were of the people he dealt with as the Winter Soldier, and he never wants to be associated with that time of his life again. Actually, going through that experience has left Bucky Barnes not wanting to be reminded of his past at all…or at least, only when he has to.
“Thanks. Uh…do you want some tea or coffee? I can cook something in the microwave….” She offers. Bucky can tell that she’s still shaken up by the nights events, and doesn’t want to risk her burning her hands.
“I’ll get it.” He assures her. “You just sit there.” He gently leads her to her couch, and she takes a seat without much argument. As he makes them both some tea, he takes the opportunity to have another look around. Y/N’s small kitchenette is just as decorated as the rest of her apartment, and Bucky takes a moment to look over the pictures and magnets on her fridge. There’s some from different cities she’s been to, ones with cute and funny sayings on them, and ones referencing movies and tv shows that he definitely doesn’t understand. He finds himself smiling as he looks over them, but can’t ignore the pang in his chest, wishing that he had memories like that, or at least, something to smile so widely about, like Y/N is in her pictures. Speaking of, she calls over to him:
“Bucky, can you bring over some cookies too? Please? They’re triple chocolate with chocolate chips and they’re my favourite. They’re in the top right cupboard. Thank youuuuuuu! Oh and you can have some too!” Bucky laughs, grinning slightly.
“Yeah, no problem doll.” He calls back, not even realising that the word doll has slipped out until a few seconds later. Bucky hasn’t used that nickname in years. But he only uses it for people he cares about, and usually with girls he’s been romantically involved with. It’s definitely too early to use that with Y/N…right? Yeah, that’s definitely weird. Bucky glances back towards the couch, where Y/N is placing a fuzzy blanket over her legs and snuggling into her couch cushions. He feels another pang at his heart. She’s clearly still sad, despite her trying to hide it. And it’s partly his fault. How can he hope she feels the same way when he’s caused her this much pain? It’s no wonder she hasn’t kicked him out. Sighing, and hoping she hasn’t heard him call her doll, or at least doesn’t bring it up, Bucky brings the mugs and cookies back to the couch, setting them on the coffee table.
The two sit in silence, both sipping from their mugs while Y/N nibbles on a cookie. “So, uh…” Bucky begins nervously, placing his mug down. “I owe you an apology.” Y/N nods, her mouth still full of cookie. Taking a deep breath, Bucky explains the reason why he kept Y/N away, and she nods along, listening intently. “I’m so sorry. I thought I was doing the right thing, but I didn’t realise how it would hurt you. I’d understand if you never want to talk to me again.”
“Bucky.” He braces himself, waiting to be let down gently. Instead however, Y/N smiles softly. “It’s okay. Like I said, I understand. Shit. I mean…I don’t understand what it’s like to have to deal with all those memories, but I definitely understand feeling alone, if tonight is anything to go by. Seriously though, I meant what I said when I said I wanted to help. And if you still want to be friends, that’s fine. I would love that. Trust me. It’s okay. I just wish you’d have come to me sooner.”
“Yeah, I should have.” Bucky nods. “And…being friends sounds nice. But uh, are you sure you’re okay with all of this? You don’t have to if you’re not.” He almost hates himself for asking her that, but again, Bucky wants to make sure she knows what she’s getting herself into. And that he’s sure that she wants to do this, and that he’s not just misunderstanding.
“Yes Bucky, I am. I promise. Actually…why don’t we start over? Forget these past few weeks even happened.” Taking a moment to think it over, Bucky nods. Sometimes, it’s good to forget. At least he can forget something. And now, he has a second chance again. Smiling, Y/N holds out one of her hands. “Hi, I’m Y/N. I live in the apartment below yours.” Bucky reaches out and takes her hand in his non metal one, shaking it.
“Hi Y/N. I’m James Buchanan Barnes, but everyone calls me Bucky. You can call me that too. It’s nice to meet you.” Another grin spreads onto her face, and Bucky feels his heart swell again. She’s such a good person, and she still wants to be his friend, despite everything.
“Well Bucky.” Y/N begins, holding up her mug, and gesturing for him to do the same. “I think this is going to be the start of a beautiful friendship.” The two smile, and clink their mugs together. “…Wait, your middle name is Buchanan?”
~*~*~*~*~
As the weeks and months go on, Bucky and Y/N grow closer and closer. So close that they’re spending almost every night together. So close that Bucky is actually starting to open up to her more. And so close that they’re trying desperately to ignore their growing feelings for each other, unwilling to ruin their friendship, completely failing to realise that the other person feels the same.
That conundrum is where the pair find themselves tonight, with Bucky helping Y/N study for an exam. They’re curled up on Y/N’s bed, legs almost intertwining as Bucky holds her laptop, testing her on her notes, surrounded by stuffed animals and pillows. “Ugh, I’m so screwed for this.” Y/N groans, leaning back on her headrest.
“You’ve gotten every single one right so far. I wouldn’t call that screwed.” Bucky raises an eyebrow.
“You don’t know my professors, they like to trick us.” She responds.
“Well, that’s not fair.”
“That’s how life is right now.” She shrugs. “Can we take a break? My brain feels like melted goo…Actually, speaking of melted goo, let’s get some ice cream!”
“Y/N, we started revising an hour ago.” Bucky reminds her.
“See! Perfect timing. Let’s go get ice cream. I have your favouriteeee!” She sings, batting her eyelashes at him. Despite how seeing that makes him feel, Bucky shakes his head.
“…I meant we just got back from another break an hour ago. A break because you wanted a chocolate bar.”
“I LIKE MY SNACKS, ALRIGHT?!” Y/N exclaims, pushing herself up on her elbows. Before he can stop himself, Bucky starts laughing at the serious look on her face. A look of horror overtakes her face. “Oh, you think this is funny, Bucky?” She asks, and before Bucky can respond, she smacks him in the face with a pillow. Laughing, Bucky picks up another pillow, and hits her back. Soon, the pair are involved in a massive pillow fight, and any ideas of studying are quickly gone. The room is a mess of feathers, and Y/N’s pillows and stuffed animals are strewn all over her floor.
“This isn’t…very productive.” Bucky huffs, trying to block Y/N’s attack. But as he stops to take a breath, Y/N raises her pillow, and smacks him again…slightly harder than intended. The force knocks Bucky off her bed, and he lands on the floor with a thud, slightly softened by Y/N’s collection of stuffed animals.
“Bucky!” She gasps, abandoning her pillow and sliding off her bed. She kneels next to him, peering down at him. “Oh my god, shit, I’m so sorry!” She gasps. “Are you okay? Are you concussed? Do you need to go to the doctor? Oh god what if I gave you amnesia?! Your name is Bucky and-” Bucky almost starts laughing at how concerned she is. It’s nice.
“No….I’m okay. I think.” Bucky mumbles. He opens his eyes, and looks up at her. He can’t help a smile forming on his mouth. She looks gorgeous. Still slightly startled, but gorgeous. Groaning, Bucky sits up. “Yeah…All good. Maybe just a bruise or two. I might have squashed some of your teddy bears though.”
“You sure? Are you bleeding anywhere?” She asks, still clearly worried. Bucky chuckles.
“Doll, I’m an army veteran, and have been through way worse than this. Thanks for your concern though.” Y/N breathes a sigh of relief.
“Thank god. I couldn’t live with myself if something happened to you because of me. I care about you, Buck.” Bucky feels his heart swell. Because of his past as the Winter Soldier, Bucky didn’t expect anyone to care about him…but Y/N clearly does. Her eyes glance to his lips.
“…I care about you too.” He whispers. “I think…I think I’m in love with you actually.” The words tumble out before he can stop them. Y/N’s eyes go wide, and her heartbeat rises.
“I think…I love you too.” She gasps. Without saying another word, Bucky and Y/N lean in closer, and their lips touch in a kiss. The mutual pining for each other over the months is released as the kiss grows more and more passionate. Soon, the pair pull apart, breathless and giddy…but happy.
“Wow…”
“That was…” They look at each other, and immediately start giggling. “So…now what?” Y/N asks. Bucky furrows his brows, feigning thinking.
“Well, we’ve still got about twenty more questions to go through, then your flashcards, not to mention practice essays…” He jokes, and Y/N gently smacks his shoulder, clearly unhappy at the suggestion. “Oh, you mean between us!”
“No shit, Sherlock.” She rolls her eyes.
“Well, I don’t know, but I can’t think on an empty stomach. I think…I’m in the mood for ice cream.” Y/N’s eyes light up.
“You get the tub, I’ll get the bowls and spoons.” She announces, getting up, and pulling Bucky up with her. “Where do you wanna sit?” She asks. Bucky chuckles.
“Where else?” He asks, gesturing towards her fire escape. Y/N nods.
“Okay Bucky. I’ll meet you on the fire escape.”
