Work Text:
Alberu and Cale Crossman are very petty. Both are spiteful whoever dares to provoke their happy family. Of course, they can be pretty petty towards each other whenever there is a chance.
And that pettiness is the children’s entertainment. It only happens once in a blue moon though, because their pettiness is directed towards others not to each other.
What’s more, that once in a blue moon happens right now.
It was just an ordinary day. Raon lazily flutters his eyes open. He squints a bit, adjusting to the brightness of the room.
He looks around in time to see his other siblings, On and Hong, in his bedroom. He frowns a bit seeing them with wide smiles on their faces.
“Why are you here?” Raon asks sitting up on the bed.
“Good morning. It’s nice if you greet good morning first.” On greets sipping her hot chocolate she got from Raon’s mini kitchen.
“Good morning, why are you here?” Raon repeats his question after greeting them.
He could tell his sister is satisfied that he followed what she stated. His lips twist up into a smile like his papa before it vanishes quickly.
Naturally, his other siblings saw it but never said anything.
“Well, you see. Dad Alberu and Papa Cale seem to argue in the kitchen.” Hong responds, scratching his cheek, swaying his short legs on the couch.
“Arguing?” Raon asks confusedly.
Arguing is pretty normal for a couple whenever they are not on the same page. In the Crossman family, arguing also happens once in a while. You cannot avoid it.
“Yes. Seems like they are in a heated argument. We heard it when we almost enter the dining room.” On replies, as she put down the mug she drank from on the table.
“Did you hear what they are arguing about?” Raon arches an eyebrow in question. A little bit interested in why their parents are quarreling.
“Tsk, it is pretty childish with what they are bickering about. “ Hong retorts shaking his head in the process.
“Oho. Do not tell me it’s about their anniversary?”
“Bingo.” On snaps her fingers.
She is satisfied with Raon’s answer because he catches on quickly like his papa.
Raon rolls his eyes at his sister.
It is quite obvious. Seems like they are arguing where they would celebrate it after their class. It has been five years since his dad married his papa. He still remembers the days his dad bribes them with some kinds of stuff, expensive by the way, for him to have an excuse to stay at their house.
At first, they were unsatisfied because they thought their papa would be taken away from them. After months of coaxing from their dad, they eventually agreed to be together. Their dad was the happiest man when he finally got their approval.
He even shed tears of joy. Raon laughs every time he remembers it. It is one of the happiest moments in their lives.
“Why are you smiling like you would scam someone?” Hong asks, wearing the exact scammer smile on Raon’s smile.
Raon touches his lips before he snorts as an answer.
“Go back to your room. I’m going to get ready for school. Maybe, they would be done bickering when we eat our breakfast.”
“I do not think so, let’s bet on it.” On say, a playful smile painted on her face.
“You guys in?” She adds, her eyes sparkling from the sheer thought of having more money.
“Nah, I’m not going to bet on it. I might lose.” Hong waves his hand disinterestedly from the bet his sister offered.
Hong would not agree on a bet he surely would lose. That’s a different case for Raon though. Raon and On, are the type of person who likes betting on things. Both sometimes win or lose.
Hong could see the same sparkle in Raon’s eyes. He shakes his head before going to his bedroom to get ready for school. Hong left the two behind.
“I’m in,” Raon says gesturing to her to get out of his room.
On laughs nodding her head and heading out from Raon’s room.
After Raon stretches his limbs, he went towards his bathroom to get ready for the day.
Cale is unsatisfied today. He is.
Alberu’s suggestion of celebrating their anniversary at his ex-boyfriend’s restaurant is a big no for him. Even he is already an ex-boyfriend, he still does not want to eat there.
“Darling, my father suggested it.” Alberu coaxes Cale who is busy cooking for their breakfast.
“So what if you’re father suggested it? I don’t want there. Pick another place.”
Cale did not glance at Alberu, still busy preparing food for the kids.
Alberu pinch the bridge of his nose, clearly frustrated with Cale. He let out a sigh then he back hugs his husband. He puts his chin on Cale’s shoulder.
“Baby, come on.”
“No.”
“Please?”
“No.”
“How about as compensation on the weekend, we would go to the beach?”
“Still no.”
Cale could feel Alberu removing his arms around his waist. As he was focusing on the cooking, he did not turn around and can only hear his footsteps going away from the kitchen. Cale could finally let out a breath.
What did he expect? Agreeing to eat at his ex-boyfriend’s restaurant? To show support?
Cale clicks his tongue in irritation.
Early in the morning, Alberu pisses him off. He knows he does not have any more feelings for his ex but he does not want to eat there. As much as possible, he did not even want to go there!
This day should be special. It is their anniversary and Cale expects to have a good day. But to his dismay, he felt anger, frustration, and irritation.
Cale does not notice the food he is cooking for Alberu burns. He notices it a little too late and turns off the stove.
Since he is a petty person, always seeking vengeance in the smallest grievance he receives, he decides not to replace the burned food for Alberu.
“Hmph, this would teach you a lesson,” Cale mumbles under his breath, laughing menacingly to himself.
Poor Alberu’s stomach, its function is to digest food but because he pissed off his husband, the one who would suffer is his stomach. If the stomach could speak, he would definetly scold his human right now.
After Alberu left Cale alone, he sat on the chair at their dining table.
He thinks.
Is he in the wrong? This day should be a joyful one. Since he insists on celebrating the anniversary at his ex-boyfriend’s restaurant, he might touch a nerve. Not might, he really touches a nerve.
Okay, he is really in the wrong. Insisting to eat there is a bad move from him.
‘Ahhhh, I should not have listened to my father.’
Alberu thought to himself. A bitter taste on his tongue, knowing he is the reason why his husband is furious at him.
Suddenly, he felt a chill on his spine making him shiver in a bad way. He felt malice from it.
He gulps in fear, knowing his husband, Cale would probably do something to him. This is bad? It is bad!
As Alberu is panicking internally but outwardly, he looks calm, the children arrived at the dining table.
One by one, they took a seat to their respective place. Seeing their Dad calm except they knew him well, the three of them sense something amiss.
They gave each other knowing glances before withdrawing them for their Dad not to know what they are thinking.
Everyone heard a happy hum from the kitchen, the children raises an eyebrow at that before staring at Alberu who is right now gulping in fear.
He showed a strained smile towards his kids.
Cale walks towards the dining room and starts to place down their breakfast, eyeing Alberu who is refraining from looking back at him.
Alberu left eye twitches in seeing his food in front of him. His food is burned. He gawks at Cale who is currently giving him a sly smile.
The children refrain from laughing at their papa’s pettiness. Damn, they knew him quite well. This pettiness is at another level.
Poor Dad sucks to be him, he is on the receiving end.
They all started to eat. Cale thought Alberu would not eat the food he serve to him so he would have a reason to scold him more, to his surprise, Alberu starts to eat it.
Alberu would not admit defeat that easily! Okay, he would ask forgiveness later after they send their kids to school, but right now? It’s a big fat no.
Since Cale is being spiteful, he would be petty too. Two could play this game.
Alberu savors the burnt food. The look on his face screams delight as he digs in his food.
Cale wants to smack Alberu from behind seeing his husband eat his breakfast in pure joy.
“This is delicious.” Alberu remarks sarcastically, finishing the food with no leftovers.
The children want to laugh right there and then. Seeing the scowl on their papa’s face means his retaliation failed.
They almost forgot their dad is also petty. His pettiness is on par with their papa. Maybe it’s the reason why they got together.
“Do you have more?” Alberu asks innocently to a stoic Cale.
“It’s delicious! It’s more delicious than the food you have cooked before.” Alberu adds and taunts Cale.
Cale casts a sharp glare on Alberu making Alberu lose his composure.
“Do not have anymore,” Cale replies, pinching Alberu on the thighs under the table.
Alberu flinches from the pain but continued to look at their children.
On, Hong and Raon snort seeing how their parents act towards them, they continue eating as their parents in front continue to annoy each other.
Finally, everyone finish eating and went towards the car. Alberu and Cale send their children to their school. Seeing them go inside the campus, they also went inside the car.
Alberu did not start the engine, he stares at Cale who is looking outside the car.
Alberu is a scheming and prideful man, he never bows his head in defeat but for his husband, he would.
He starts to talk.
“I’m sorry. I’m in the wrong.”
Cale let out a sigh and faces Alberu. He looks like a dejected wolf.
“I’m sorry too. I let my emotions get the best of me. Let us just go to another venue okay? You’re forgiven.”
Cale chuckles seeing Alberu’s eyes lit up in happiness. He pecks Alberu on the cheek making him a blushing mess.
“Aigoo, we are married for five years and you still blush from my pecks?”
“Shut up, let’s go.”
Still blushing, Alberu starts the engine and drives off from the school, Cale shook his head and started to talk towards Alberu.
They did not let their petty fight last for long, their love is much stronger than their petty quarrels. They will not let it ruin their special day.
At the same time.
“Noona, I won. “
“Tsk, here.”
