Work Text:

Susato's eyes slowly fluttered open, the morning sun peaking through the thin curtains, slightly blinding her. She grumbled and attempted to get up, quickly stopping herself after seeing the other girl sleeping beside her, arms loosely wrapped around her. She let out an airy laugh and rested her head on the pillow, admiring her “friend”.

What to call Haori had lately become a consistent issue to Susato. She was her best friend, that was certain. However, as of late she's wanted more, more than being just a best friend. Every tiny thing Haori says always has her attention, she feels herself blushing with every compliment given to her, the empty feeling she feels when the other has to leave at the end of their outings, but immediately hit with a rush of excitement for the next. It became so overwhelming for Susato.

Her eyelids felt heavy, slowly drifting back to sleep with thoughts of the other, but awoke with the feeling of her heart shattering. It was impossible that Haori had reciprocated her feelings. Ever since they were children, Haori always dreamed of a dashing prince to sweep her off her feet. Susato wasn't a prince. Haori would fantasize about her ideal man and Susato was all too aware it could never be her. She was convinced that the shimmering glares and affectionate words she received during the trial were for Ryutaro, not her. It pained her to think about, but she wanted the best for Haori, and if it included her to push down her feelings for her, she'd do so with a smile on her face.

A soft incoherent mumble snapped Susato out of her musings. She felt the other's arms wrap tighter around her, her cheeks reddened. The way the sunlight shines on Haori’s soft face, enhancing every little detail, was something so simple yet made Susato's heart flutter. She gently moved Haori's hair out of her face, tucking it behind her ear, attempting not to wake her up. Her hand lingered behind the other's ear, too focused on spotting something she'd never noticed before, such as a tiny scar near her chin from playing together when they were little. She was so mesmerized she almost hadn't noticed the other starting to wake up. Instead of jolting up with frantic apologies to the other, the two stared at each other, sharing a soft smile. They held each other tighter, and Haori rested her head on Susato's shoulder.

“Good morning, Su,” Haori murmured. Susato hummed in response, not saying anything else afterwards. None of them could care, they felt so safe in each other's arms, they knew nothing could ruin this tranquil moment.

If it was any other day, Susato would be prepared for the day ahead, but it wouldn't hurt to sleep in a little more today.

Notes:

This was very short but also fun to write! I love Susahao so much and I'm a firm believer that we need more content for it <3
