Mismanaged Messages

Summary:

Wei Ying sends an innocent text to Lan Zhan and autocorrect decides to do some match-making…

Work Text:

Wei Ying grinned as he got out of the shower and dried off his hair. He was going to see Lan Zhan today. Lan Zhan, his very best friend since they were six years old. The man he had been secretly in love with since they turned sweet sixteen together, but the man to whom he could never reveal his feelings, knowing that Lan Zhan would never feel the same way.

Now that they were in their twenties, Lan Zhan had gone to work for his family company and that meant a lot of travelling round securing deals for GusuLan industries. Wei Ying missed him terribly especially when this last trip had taken him away from Wei Ying for a whole two weeks! His job as a free-lance graphic designer kept him busy but he still found his mind wandering constantly throughout the day, trying to pinpoint what Lan Zhan might be doing at that exact second…

He pushed the thoughts away. They didn’t matter today. Today he was going to see Lan Zhan and he was going to shamelessly hug him, and drape himself all over him until his wonderful sandalwood smell permeated all his clothing. He smiled at the thought as he left the bathroom wrapped in a towel and moved through to the bedroom.

On impulse, he checked his phone before dressing and noted Lan Zhan had responded to his last message.

I’m coming over. Now.

Wei Ying blinked at the message. He checked the time. It was an hour earlier than they had arranged to meet. Wei Ying frowned. It wasn’t like Lan Zhan to be unpredictable. Then his eyes settled on the message he had sent to Lan Zhan before hopping in the shower.

Oh no. No, no, no!

This could not be happening…

Wei Ying sat down on the edge of the bed and stared at his phone helplessly. Autocorrect was created by the devil. There was no other explanation for his current situation.

They had been discussing Lan Zhan’s next trip away. It was to Japan in just three days. Wei Ying had felt his heart sink when he had read the message. Lan Zhan had somehow managed to pick up on his melancholy and asked if he was unhappy.

The message he replied with was meant to read:

I’m okay, just thinking about missing you.

But his phone had helpfully corrected it to:

I’m okay, just thinking about kissing you.

And the worst part of all was that Lan Zhan had sent a reply with a simple:

Wei Ying?

And it was obvious now that Lan Zhan had been waiting for Wei Ying to correct himself, but Wei Ying has been too distracted by the thought of seeing Lan Zhan again to realise his mistake and had replied in kind with:

Lan Zhan?

Which now he looked at it sorta looked like an invitation or worse a challenge…

Shit…

And now Wei Ying definitely needed to die. Preferably before Lan Zhan got there. He idly wondered if he should message again and try to salvage the situation but from the timestamp of Lan Zhan’s last message, he would be reaching Wei Ying’s flat within minutes. Wei Ying paced. Lan Zhan wouldn’t shout at him right? He was clearly mad.

I’m coming over. Now.

This was the message of a person who clearly felt betrayed and let down by his best friend. Urgh. But Lan Zhan would let him down gently wouldn’t he? Or would he shout and threaten to break all ties for good? Wei Ying dressed quickly and flitted around the flat nervously tidying up. Lan Zhan appreciated neatness. Would this be the last time Wei Ying would get to see Lan Zhan in his home? He swallowed hard and jumped at the sudden knock on the door. He took a deep breath, lifted his chin and prepared to face the music.

He opened the door and smiled at his beautiful best friend’s intense expression.

“Lan Zhan, please don’t be mad…I…umph!”

Wei Ying was clever. He knew this. But it took his brain an embarrassingly long time to catch up with the fact that Lan Zhan was kissing him. Lan Zhan was…KISSING HIM! And it was good. Oh God, so good! Where had Lan Zhan learnt to kiss that well? Wei Ying pouted at the jealous notion. Lan Zhan felt it against his lips and pulled away.

“Wei Ying?” he asked tentatively.

“You…you kissed me,” Wei Ying said dumbly.

Lan Zhan nodded. “Your message…”

“Ah, autocorrect,” Wei Ying said sheepishly.

Lan Zhan’s eyes widened and his ears turned pink. He stepped away. “My apologies,” he said with a deep bow.

“Where did you learn to kiss like that?” Wei Ying asked.

Lan Zhan blinked back at him. “What?”

“That was…good. Where did you learn to kiss like that?”

“That was my first kiss…” Lan Zhan admitted.

“It was?” Wei Ying said with a relieved smile. “So there’s no one else?”

Lan Zhan shook his head. “Only Wei Ying.”

Wei Ying bit his lip as his heart burst open.

Lan Zhan nodded. “Did Wei Ying…like it?”

Wei Ying closed the distance between them and put his arms around Lan Zhan’s neck. “Wei Ying liked it very much,” he murmured. Then they were kissing again and it was a glorious mess of teeth and lips and tongue and soft sighs that made Wei Ying ache inside.

“Lan Zhan,” Wei Ying moaned as his neck was throughly assaulted. “This can’t be…this has to be more….I can’t be casual with you…” he managed to gasp.

Lan Zhan looked up at him with steely focus. “There is only you for me, Wei Ying.”

Wei Ying melted. “You have to stay, you have to stay with me the whole three days,” he ordered desperately between kisses. “I need your scent on my clothes, my bedding, my pillows. You have no idea how hard it is for me when you’re away.”

Lan Zhan had somehow manoeuvred them to Wei Ying’s bedroom and was pushing them through the doorway. “I will stay,” he promised.

“The whole three days?” Wei Ying asked as Lan Zhan pushed him down onto the bed.

Lan Zhan leaned over him and pressed a soft kiss to his lips. He shook his head. “No.”

Wei Ying tried not to fall apart from the disappointment.

Lan Zhan smiled a small smile as he brushed Wei Ying’s hair back from his face and cradled his cheeks in the palms of his hands. “I will stay indefinitely.”

“What?” Wei Ying asked.

“I can take a stationary position in the company. Uncle has been holding an opening for me for sometime but I always thought it was best not be greedy of my time with you. If I am here, I am always tempted to see you, but if being together is what you want too…”

“It is!” Wei Ying broke free from Lan Zhan’s hold and rolled them over so he was straddling the man he hoped was now his boyfriend. “It is! It is what I want!” he cried as he smothered Lan Zhan’s face in butterfly kisses.

“Then Wei Ying can have me.”

“No more business trips?”

“None.”

“Full access?”

“As much as Wei Ying wants.”

Wei Ying grinned and leaned down to kiss him. “Wei Ying wants…all of you.”

Lan Zhan smiled up at him. “Then that is what Wei Ying shall have.”
