Nightmare has had it. He couldn’t stand the idea of not being able to help the younger guardian while turning to stone. Dream wouldn’t even confess what those previous nightmares he had were about. His scratching was also starting to get on the darker twin. So, Nightmare decided that the gang would have a little at-home picnic to surprise. Maybe the picnic could relieve some stress from the gang and dream.
Nightmare told the gang about what he was planning to do for Dream, and they complied. Horror started to work on baking. Dust, Killer, and Cross did the decorations with some occurring fights, while Error surprisingly brought some toys since he believed they could help the small guardian. Meanwhile, Nightmare was monitoring the preparations.
“Umm... You guys think… Dream would want chocolate or strawberry ice cream..?” Horror uttered from the kitchen fridge. He couldn’t talk properly like the rest of the gang because of his cracked skull, yet he tries.
“Chocolate, obviously,” Cross answered.
“Of course, you’re lousy self would choose that.” Killer grinned at Cross as if he was expecting a reaction from the guard, which is what he received. Once Cross attempted to lunge at Killer, Nightmare instantly grabbed the two skeletons while scowling, which made them shut up. He dropped them down near Dust, who was busy chuckling and monitoring them.
The three skeletons laid down a classic picnic blanket on the smooth wooden floor next to a couple of fake small plants. They also set up some hanging fairy lights on the wall since Cross thought it would look cozy. A couple of fluffy pillows were also added since Dust suggested that his rat, Cyanide, and Dream should relax somewhere.
Horror gathered all the ingredients from the kitchen to make Strawberry and Chocolate ice cream. He also asked for suggestions from Nightmare to make sure the food was perfect. Error fetched him some chocolate from his anti-void since he claimed that it must taste good if he was going to eat it. While the gang was preparing for the picnic, Nightmare decided to check on Dream. Everything was running perfectly so far.
Nightmare wandered down the corridor until he stopped at a large door. He walked up to it and spread the door open, which led to his room, and saw that Dream wasn’t in sight. The darker guardian checked under the blanket, desk, and inside the closet, yet the small guardian wasn’t found. He then noticed that the bathroom door was slightly opened. He wasn’t in the slightest prepared for what he saw.
“Dream…?” Nightmare rubbed his eye twice to make sure he wasn’t seeing things. His beloved brother was stoned. He gradually walked over to Dream as if walking faster would shatter him.
“When did this happen? H-How did this happen?” Tears began forming in his eyes, which quickly began to drop. It was rare for the negative guardian to stammer or cry, but he didn’t care. The only thing that mattered was that his brother was standing near the corner of the bathroom as if stone.
Nightmare tried to wake up Dream, yet all his attempts were futile. He tried pouring warm water, rubbing him with a soft towel, brushing him, yet nothing happened. His tears began to drop faster with a few hiccups in between while trying his attempts a second time. Once failed, he kept trying and trying until he realized that nothing could help. Dream was stone.
Now Nightmare had to figure out how to inform the rest of the gang.
