Selen was always an energetic kid on her house, screaming and shouting while playing with her older sister Elira, talking about the new things she learned on school, enjoying the series she and her sister likes a lot and practicing her drawing skills. Things were different in school, she had a few friends, if she can call them that, normally she would only speak to her classmates when a group project needed to be done but out of that she’ll spend her time alone.
That’s why right now she’s sitting on a corner of the playground during recess, playing alone with the new toys of her favorite animated series that her parents gave her, she didn’t mind much, after all it was better this way so she can enjoy the stories she was creating while playing.
She can’t stop and think how different her sister and her are from each other, Elira can make friends way easier compare to Selen, Pomu was a proof of it, she really liked Pomu and was like another big sister she could play and joke with, the only other person besides Elira that she can be more open with, it didn’t really matter that she was two years older than her.
Suddenly her train of thought got interrupted, a shadow appeared in front of her, Selen looked up to find a small girl probably her age standing just a few inches away from her with her hands behind her back, the girl had a long green like hair color —it reminded Selen the foam of the sea— and also it seemed that she had fins as ears.
The girl was staring directly at Selen’s hands, when she looked down and notice that she still had her toys in her hands her mind comprehend what was going on.
“Do you like this series?” she asked innocently in a small voice, maybe she finally found someone else that likes the same things than her, besides Elira and Pomu of course. She couldn’t stop her tail from showing her excitement, the tip of it giving small thuds against the ground.
It seemed that the little girl wanted to answer but was a bit hesitant, Selen didn’t pressure her, she understands that feeling of not being able to say what you like.
“I— I do like it” her voice was so quite that for a moment Selen thought she didn’t answer.
“Really?” a little nod came from the other girl. “Then, would you like to play with me?” after saying that the other girl let a big smile show in her face while nodding a few times. That made Selen really happy, finally someone that she could be friends with.
She stopped hiding her hands on her back and reveled that she also had a toy of the series, that made Selen even more happy and eager to play.
It didn’t take so long for them to think of a story to play along with, it was a really basic story, Selen would play the hero that need to rescue the princess from an evil knight, they had a lot of fun imagining how Selen would defeat that knight and how dumb their way of acting romantic was after rescuing the princess.
They were having a fun time together and everyone that saw them could tell that.
“Hey can I ask you something?”
Selen was curious about this girl, she doesn’t have many friends —if she has any that is— but she has never seen her on any of the classes of her grade, she at least could differentiate the faces of everyone that was on the same grade as her.
“Sure, what do you want to know?” even after they played and laugh together she still had a soft voice to speak, Selen didn’t know why but she likes that.
“I haven’t seen you before and— and I know most of my classmates, are you new in here?” she was genuinely curious about her.
“Y—yes I’m new here, I moved recently with my parents, just a month ago” she started to get nervous, it was obvious that being the new kid was hard for her, still a month was enough for her to notice the presence of the girl, especially because of that green hair.
“Can I ask what’s your age?” she was getting more curious about her, she couldn’t help but ask.
“I’m seven, starting second grade, why?” she was still nervous, it seemed that she was afraid that Selen wouldn’t play with her anymore after saying that, she didn’t understand why.
“Oh that’s why I didn’t recognize you, you’re a year older than me!” know she understands why she haven’t seen her, that still doesn’t explain why the girl looks so nervous.
“Wait, you’re on first grade?” she asked, now less nervous than before. “I thought you were older than me, that’s why I wasn’t sure if you’ll want to play more with me after telling you my age” she relaxed after saying that, it was like someone lifted a weight from her shoulders.
“Why would I do that?” Selen didn’t understand anything, why would she stop playing with her just because of that, also… did she looked that old?
“W— well, in my last school no one wanted to play with me because they thought what I like was way to childish, and the older kinds mock me for that” her face turned sad, it seemed that remembering that wasn’t something she was fond of, Selen didn’t like that, after all she understands that feeling of being different just because you like something the others don’t. “That’s one of the reasons my family and I moved.”
After telling that they were in silence for a bit, both looking to the ground not knowing what to say next.
Selen finally decided to speak after another minute passed “If you like we can be friends, after all, I like the same thing as you.” She didn’t look at the girl but she could feel her gaze upon her, she just looked at the ground expecting an answer to her idea, her tail moving from side to side because of how nervous she was.
Suddenly she felt a pair of arms bringing her to a hug, Selen didn’t expect this, but she also didn’t dislike it, at that idea she blushed a bit. A few seconds passed and the girl stopped hugging Selen, then turned to look at her the girl was also a bit red on the face, more than her for sure.
“I— I’m sorry it’s just that I’m happy” the smile she gave Selen after saying that made her blush even harder, she didn’t understand why, there’s a lot of things Selen wasn’t understanding today. “Yes I’ll like to be your friend.”
Just as she finished saying that the bell that indicates the end of the recess rang and the green hair girl stood up taking her toy with her.
“I’m sorry but I need to go to my next class, can we play here again tomorrow?” the smile on her face couldn’t grow any wider even if she tried to.
“Yeah sure” was all Selen could answer, after that she saw how the girl run inside the school building going to her next class. Selen did the same not long after she saw the girl disappear from her eyesight.
The rest of the classes were boring for her, she couldn’t stop thinking that she finally made a friend, an actual friend that liked the same things, she wanted the classes to end soon so she could tell Elira everything about her new friend.

Finally, the classes were over, Selen packed all her things on the small backpack she has and rushed to the entrance of the school were Elira was probably already waiting for her.
When she finally arrived at the entrance she saw Elira being accompanied by Nina, it’s being some time since the last time she saw the old woman, so she couldn’t help but to run towards her and hug her legs.
“Nina I’m happy to see you again!” she heard the characteristic laugh of the woman while she messed Selen’s hair a bit, after a few seconds she stopped hugging her and looked up to meet the woman’s loving gaze. “What are you doing here?” she couldn’t stop herself from asking.
Nina laugh alongside Elira at the way Selen asked that.
“Oh Selen I’ve missed you and your unfiltered way of being so much” she heard Nina’s laugh get louder just like Elira, she turned a bit to face her sister and taking advantage that she wasn’t paying attention to her, gave a little pinch on one of Elira’s arms.
Elira stopped laughing to rub the place where Selen pinch her, now the one laughing was Selen at the sight of her sister pouting because of her.
“Ok you two don’t start fighting, just hop on the car and let’s get home” both sisters did just what Nina told them and sat on the back of the car, after securing their seatbelts Nina enter the car and started the ride to the house of the dragons. “Also answering your question Selen, your parents called me, they had an urgent business trip to attend and they asked me to take care of you.”
Both of the dragons weren’t surprised by that, after all that was how they met Nina, a longtime friend of their parents, because she takes care of them every time their parents have a business trip. The fact that they traveled a lot didn’t mean they don’t love them and the same could be said about them, they know how much their parents love them, it’s just that the work they had consisted on traveling a lot. Still they would like that wasn’t a recurrent thing.
Noticing how the girls got sad about the fact that their parents had to leave, Nina decided to turn on the radio to ease the little tension around them. “Once we arrive home I’m going to prepare lunch so, what would you like to have?” she tried to distract them talking about something else, she knew they would bright up a bit if she mentioned food.
“Can we have McDonald’s?” Elira asked with an innocent smile, it seemed that the food talk worked.
“Yeah let’s have McDonland’s! I like their nuggies” Selen quickly follow Elira’s statement, the food talk worked a bit too well.
“I don’t know, should I buy it?” Nina teased them, in other situation she would prefer to cook instead of buying them fast food, but it wouldn’t hurt if it was just this time, besides, they probably needed it after telling them about their parent’s trip.
“Please Nina, we’re begging you” both sisters said at the same time with pleading eyes trying to convince the fox woman.
“Oh okay, you two know I can’t resist that look, now please stop” after saying that both sisters laugh and cheered that they got away with what they wanted.
“I just remember! I have something to tell you Elira!” suddenly Selen remembered why she hurried to the entrance of the school, she needed to tell her sister about the new friend she made.
“Just to Elira? What about me? I’m buying McDonald’s” Nina made a pout teasing the little purple dragon.
Selen laugh at the image of Nina doing a weird pout “Okay I’ll tell you too Nina.”
“Thank you for including me honey” she smiled to Selen.
“So what happened?” Elira was now curious, Selen liked a lot of the classes and was happy to tell her about the new things she learned, but even with that she didn’t seem as happy and excited like how she was now.
“I made a new friend! She is a year older than me and likes the same series we and Pomu like” the smile Selen had on her face made her cheeks hurt a bit but she couldn’t contain herself.
“That’s amazing Selen, I’m happy you have a friend who you can share many things” Elira was so happy about this, she knew her sister had some trouble making friends despite her outgoing personality. The fact that she couldn’t deal with extremely large crowds because she got shy was part of it, but also because she thought that what she liked was weird and no one would like it, she really felt relieved that she found someone to be friends with.
“Those are amazing news honey, because of that we’re going to have extra-large milkshakes to celebrate” after Nina said that both girls shout out in happiness, despite all today seemed to be going great.
“You know what, I have an idea” Selen turned to look at her sister that had a wide smile plastered on her face too. “Tomorrow we can play together with your new friend, I’m sure Pomu, Mille and Enna would love to join us.”
Selen was really happy to hear her sister’s suggestion, still something caught her off guard, who were Mille and Enna? Probably some new friends Elira made but she didn’t mention before, she wasn’t that sure how things were going to be with Elira’s new friends, but she trusted her sister.
“Sure we can play together tomorrow.”

The rest of the day passed without major events, Nina bought the food they wanted, when they were finally at home she ate and then started doing her homework, she finished after two hours just because she got a bit distracted drawing doodles on the corners of her notebook; after that she and Elira played some games with Nina and watched a new series that the fox woman introduced them to, she liked it.
The day went on without any big surprises, dinner time came and after that she head to her room to play a little bit more on her Nintendo DS. Even if she was playing, it was like her movements were automatic most of the time, only when she encountered a boss she actually payed attention to what was going on with the game, she couldn’t stop thinking about the girl she met today.
For once she felt like she wasn’t out of her element while being with someone else at school, she was glad she met… wait, what was her name? Did she really forgot to ask her name?
She paused her game and stared blankly at the small console, she was too excited to have someone to play with that she let that little detail fly over her head, well, she could ask for her name tomorrow. She was also curious about those new friends of Elira, she admires how her sister could make friends easily, or at least way easier than her.
After resuming her game and finished the stage she was in, she decided to turn off the DS and try to sleep, she wanted to have full energy for the next day.

The classes were so slow for her, she generally didn’t care much about time when she was in school, she liked the classes and everyday Selen learned something new and she adored that, but today it was different.
She was finally on the last class before recess and it seemed that the teacher or the universe knows that she was so impatience to meet with the feesh girl, a nick name she invented last night while trying to sleep, since she didn’t know her name that’s how she’ll call her at least for now.
Without her noticing finally the bell rang and she sprinted towards the playground and firstly looked for her sister and Pomu, she was so hyped at the idea of playing with her sister and new friend, after scanning the place with a quick glance she saw her sister alongside with Pomu and two other blond girls who she assumed were the girls Elira mentioned yesterday.
With a fast pace walk she approached her sister who hugged her tightly and messed up her hair just to tease a little bit Selen, Elira let go of her and Selen fixed her hair as best as she could.
“Hey sis, I want you to meet my new friends, she’s Enna” Elira mentioned while pointing to the bird like girl, who with a shy nod acknowledge Selen’s presence, she did the same in return. “And this is Millie” she pointed to the second? Third? Blond girl that was standing between Pomu and Enna.
“Hi nice to meet you! Elira has said so many things about you, she was right you are so cute!” she seemed a bit more outgoing than the other girl, still by the slight blush she could watch on her face showed that she was still embarrassed about meeting someone new.
“H— hi I’m Selen” her voice was a bit low, but she tried to be as welcomy as she could, after all if Elira was their friend then they sure are good persons, she trusted her sister.
“Hey Selen I heard that you got a new friend, where is she?” Pomu asked curiously, after all she has known Selen for about two years now and she always looked out for the small dragon, that’s why when Elira told her earlier that day that the purple dragon met someone she was so excited to meet them.
Selen turned to search with her sight for the feesh girl, it took a moment for her to find green hair girl but when she did her face lit up. “It her!” she shouted.
She runned towards the girl who smiled widely when she finally saw Selen.
When they were finally face to face Selen catched her breath after running from one side of the playground to the other.
“Hi, nice to see you again” the girl said, she was hugging the same toy she had last day.
“Hi” Selen said, now being in front of her new friend made her feel nervous, what if she doesn’t want to play with her sister? What if it made her uncomfortable? “I was thinking that maybe if you want, we can play with my sister and her friends, if it’s ok with you.”
She let her words out so fast that for a moment she thought the feesh girl didn’t understand what she said, but a sudden red tinted her cheeks so she assumed she actually catched what she just said.
“I— I don’t know, are you ok with me playing you all?” her voice sounding so small.
“Yeah sure it’s fine, come with me” Selen grabbed her by the wrist without putting too much force into it and dragged feesh girl with her.
When they finally arrived to the small group of girls speaking she cleared her throat so everyone would look at them.
Elira was the first one to look at her sister’s new friend, the girl was a bit taller than Selen, green long hair and finned ears, she looks cute was the first thing that came to Elira’s mind. She then looked at her sister and realized that her tail was swaying form side to side and her head wings were almost in full display, showing how excited she was. That made Elira smile.
“Hi I’m Elira, Selen’s older sister, nice to meet you! These are my friends Pomu, Enna and Millie” she mentioned while pointing at each of them.
The green hair girl tilted her head a bit to the side at the mention of Selen’s name while the flustered expression she had when they arrived was still there, she now also had a curious look.
“Nice to meet you, I’m Finana” she almost whispered, she felt so dumb because of it.
“Oh so that’s your name” Selen perked up, now she could stop referring to her as the feesh girl in her mind… probably, she liked the nick name tho.
“Wait you didn’t knew her name?” Pomu teased her.
“I forgot to ask her ok.” The girls laugh at that, Selen turned her head to her left to watch Finana laughing with the everyone, she liked the sight of her friend laughing along with other people that were important to her, like Pomu and Elira, and even if she just met Enna and Millie, she was sure at this moment that they were going to become really good friends.

They really were amazing friends, it’s been some months since the first time they all hang together for the first time and since then they became really close to each other, the girls even got to meet Nina at some point.
Now they all play together not just at the school’s playground, but also visit each other’s house to play after school’s over and during weekends.
She really enjoyed to play videogames with Enna and Millie, they were really competitive on Mario Kart, it was fun to hear them scream trying to make the car faster while doing that; she liked to tease Finana, Millie and Enna with the help of Elira and Pomu, mimicking them and pulling some small pranks like choosing their favorite character to play Smash; but the thing she loved the most was talking to Finana about everything, what happens during her classes, about the new episode of her favorite series, about a new game that Nina or her parents gave her, how she teased Elira about being a little nerd sometimes and just talking to her about everything that came to her mind, she also loved how Finana would also tell her everything, it just seemed that they never run out of themes to talk about.
She also liked teasing the mermaid, which she finally knew after a week of being friends, she thought Finana was just another fish like person, but she wanted to know what specific type of fish so she asked her, turns out she was a mermaid. After that Selen always teased Finana calling her feesh, just like she did back when she didn’t know the mermaid’s name, in exchange Finana would call her dub dragon every time Selen didn’t pay attention or forget about something.
Bickering with her was so much fun.

Time passed and without knowing they were at their last day of school.
Selen was impatience, it was the last class of the day, the teacher was on her desk reading a book, the other kids where talking about what they were going to do during summer. She was sitting in her desk waiting for the bell to ring so she could run out of the classroom and find her sister and friends so they could play for the rest of the day and talk about the plans they had for the summer camp they convinced their parents to send them to.
Time was going so slow that for a moment Selen thought that it just completely stopped, until the bell finally ringed.
While the class shouted and everyone started to get their things together to leave the class, Selen was already running to the entrance of the school, that’s why she prepared everything beforehand.
When she finally reached the entrance she saw Pomu and Elira already there, how were they so fast? They greet her and talked while waiting for the other three. First one to arrive was Finana, she almost fell down because she was tripping with her own feet, then Millie and Enna arrived at the same time.
By the moment the group was complete Nina already arrived and took everyone to eat at Wendy’s, it was a special occasion after all, so Nina decided it would be great to treat her small children.
When they finally arrived at the place, they had so much fun telling Nina what they did on the last day, enjoying their meal and playing a bit at the children section of the restaurant.
After that all of them went to a nearby park and spent the rest of the evening there, playing tag or just running behind each other because they wanted to.
The day passed and it was time to return home, Nina drove each of the girls to their houses, first Enna, then Millie, after them was Pomu and now the last one was Finana.
Selen and Finana were sitting on the back while Elira was on the front passenger seat, contrary to earlier, the car was now quieter with the sound of the radio filling the car, Elira was sleeping, Nina was humming to every song that she knew and Finana and Selen were hanging there trying to not fall asleep.
At one moment Finana gave up trying and placed her head against Selen’s shoulder, she perked up at this, watching the relaxed face of Finana made the dragon’s face and stomach burn, but in a good way she thought, she didn’t understand it but it felt… good.
Finana moved a bit trying to get more comfortable using Selen as her pillow, she didn’t mind, her tail started moving, swaying from side to side while giving small thumps against the seat from time to time.
“You know” the sleepy voice of Finana brought Selen back to reality. “I’m glad I met you, I can’t wait to have more fun with you at the camp.”
That last part was barely understandable, the sleepiness in her voice was palpable as she yawned the last words, still Selen managed to comprehend what she said.
Finally letting sleep take the best of her, the small dragon placed her head against the mermaid’s one.
“I’m also glad I met you.”
That was the last thing she said before falling asleep against the mermaid.
