Rising for the Sake of Security

Summary:

Maintenance log – Sun and Moon Animatronic

After today’s incident that led the forced shutdown of the Daycare Attendant, the maintenance team evaluated the animatronic and it appears that an unapproved upgrade had negatively impacted their coding. We have deactivated the upgrade and the animatronic will be put on safe mode until the opening of the daycare tomorrow morning. The following protocols for the animatronic will be in effect:
- The daycare attendant will spend most of the night in its balcony charging, only leaving after it has reached a full charge to tidy the daycare for the day ahead.
- The lights will remain on in the daycare/balcony at all times and dim light during the hourly power divergence. This is to limit the transformation of Sun to counterpart Moon, which could disrupt the charging cycle or possibly lead to it automatically running unwanted protocols.
- The animatronic will not be permitted to leave the daycare premises as either Sun or Moon. Due to this, the animatronic will be unable to run its usual nightly patrol as the Moon animatronic and an assigned human security guard will take its place.

Notes:

This took me forever to finish because I couldn't write two sentences lol. Anyways, first FNaF fanfic, I am a fan of Sun and Moon so I figured I'd make a fic fairly centered around them.

There is like, one swear word in this chapter, idk if that matters though.

Also, an important sidenote, Sun and Moon can communicate with each other here through an internal log. Sun’s messages are italicized while Moons messages are italicized and bolded.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter 1: An Error in Programing

Chapter Text

The Superstar Daycare has always been a safe and functional space and, if you were to ask any member of management, a profitable venture. It has run flawlessly (ignoring the multiple complaints) since it’s opening with the rest of the Fazbear Mega Pizza Plex during its operation hours of 10 am to 10 pm. The Daycare Attendant, the Sun and Moon animatronic, was very efficient at what it did, providing care and entertainment for the hundreds of young children that cycled through the daycare each day (as long as the PizzaPlex ignores any complaints about it being “to scary” and “the thing gives my children nightmares” then it has a solid 4.3 star review). Yep, all day, every day, with a battery that could last all day with a bit of charge to spare, the attendant would run the place without with little to no incidents.

Every day, except for this morning.

At 2:47 pm, just before snack time, the attendant was alerted of a danger in the area. These things happen sometimes, which is what the few human staff at the security desk are there for. If anything goes wrong, they are quick to take care of the issue. But today was different.

Sun’s sensors were pinging him, alerting him of a danger, but no matter how hard he looked he could not find. But there had to be something, right? Maybe it was a gas leak? No, that would be a different ping, this ping was one of a dangerous person in the area, but the threat was nowhere to be found. He couldn’t call for security without seeing physical evidence of a threat, so he searched around the daycare, checking in on the kids and making sure nobody was running around with a pair of scissors or near any suspicious adults.

“Mr. Sun?” Sun paused his searching protocol, his attention becoming focused on the little girl, Molly, who was tugging on his ribbons. “Is everything alright?”

“Oh of course my sunbeam!” Sun exclaimed, spinning his head spikes as he crouched down to her level, “I’m just looking for something, there’s nothing to worry about!” Not yet, anyway. The pings slowed down slightly as Sun checked his internal clock. “Oh my, would you look at the time! Snack time is about to start, so why don’t you go over to…”

The pings became more rapid, more urgent. The danger level rose quickly, causing Sun to go on high alert. He stood up straight, scanning the area for the threat. Molly called out for him again, however the rising danger of the unseen threat had taken priority. He stalked off towards the glass wall by the entrance. The direction of the seeming threat.

There, he spotted it. It seemed to materialize just outside of the daycare, a figure that was about his size if not taller. The figure didn’t make any sense to Sun, though, he could see it standing there, but there wasn’t a single discernable feature on the figure. It looked vaguely like a man- no a rabbit- a rabbit man? Nothing about the threat made any sense to Sun, however, he found the location of the threat, so he could continue with dealing with it.

Threat Detected: Initiating Security Protocols

Sun took a protective stance in front of Molly as he pinged the security staff to address the threat outside of the daycare.

“What’s happening Mr. Sun?”

“There’s nothing you need to be worried about. Why don’t we just go over to the security desk and wait for snack time?” Sun planned on keeping his word by doing that, but he happened to glance back to the figure. That turned out to be a mistake.

The figure stood there, shaking as if it were… laughing? It waved at Sun, before taking a step forward, phasing through the glass. Every single internal alarm went off

“S-Security alert! Security alert!” Sun scooped up the little girl who let out a yelp as he hurried over to the security desk.

The lights had dimmed, leaving the animatronic vulnerable to be controlled by either Sun or Moon. They practically dropped Molly next to the desk before turning their attention to the threat. Sun was calling for security to deal with the threat, however they didn’t seem to understand what he was pointing to even though it was right there he could see it. They were telling him to stop, he was scaring the kids, one of them was crying, but the threat was getting closer.

Why aren’t they listening to me, the threat is right there!

Move over, I’ll take care of it.

Moon tried to take control of their shared body to take care of the situation, but Sun was still stubbornly trying to get the blind security staff to help him. Moon forced through anyway, taking over the left half of their vessel while Sun remained on the right.

Both of their voice boxes were trying to talk over the other, addressing the threat in the area.

“Security alert-”

“Exit the premises immediately-”

“Security alert-”

“- or I will be forced-”

“-oooo Wooooooo-”

“- escort you out-”

“Don’t you see-”

“- forcefully.”

The scene had drawn a crowd of children and parents alike with at least one teenager recording the whole spectacle.

A member of management rushed in through the large double doors and hurried over to the security deck. She worked fast at the computer and quickly shut down the malfunctioning daycare attendant remotely.

Their movements and speech slowed to a stop, the clicking of their joints falling silent as the froze in place in a precarious stance. The lights returned to their regular brightness as the manager and other members of staff worked to get things under control. The manager turned to the nearest employee and said:

“You, help me take care of the crowd outside so we can take sunshine down to parts and service. The rest of you move all of the children over to the ball pit, take role, and start snack time. We’ll be right back.”

After doing their best to clear the crowd, they wheeled the attendant out of the daycare and down into parts and services, however they were unable to fix the animatronic in a timely manner. The daycare had to be human run until they closed early at 8 pm.

~~~
The malfunction that occurred with Sun and Moon was a lot more complicated than what the maintenance team originally thought. Apparently, the malfunction occurred because of some unapproved small upgrade that had slipped through with its most recent, bigger upgrade. After deactivating the upgrade (which took a good amount of time due to how rooted it became in their programming), they returned the animatronic to the daycare balcony to charge until morning.
Sun sat on an old kiddie stool, charging. He and Moon were sending messages to each other through their shared chat log in their internal system, discussing what happened earlier that day.
Poor Molly. I can’t believe we freaked out like that in front of her. She’s probably traumatized.
Oh yeah, that kid is definitely having nightmares tonight.
Oh dear. But- you saw it too, right? I wasn’t the only one who saw that- that thing?
Yeah, I saw it. But maintenance says it was just the result of a glitch from our upgrade the other day. Weird shit like that happens all the time, I wouldn’t worry about it.
Language. That was far too real to just be a “glitch”. What if it’s the result of something bigger? Something dangerous? We should get a hold of the others. The upgrade was a Plex wide thing, so we should find out if anyone else has experienced something like- whatever that was.
A sudden squeak from the slide and clambering of someone in the ball pit caused Sun to perk up. Moon didn’t have a chance to respond before Sun sent another message.
Someone just came down the slide.
Sun, the pizza plex is closed and the only person here is the nightguard, who could possibly be coming down the slide?
Tammy does sometimes just before we close. Maybe she’s working the nightshift tonight.
Well, you’re in control right now, use our eyes and find out.
Sun rose, stepping over the broken S.T.A.F.F. bot and climbing on top of boxes to reach the balcony. Peering out of the opening, he spotted a small figure standing in the ball pit, taking in their surroundings. They didn’t wear any recognizable Fazbear employee uniform, and their size was to small to be any adult staff member on file. So that must mean…
There’s a child!
What?
It was hard to see the details on the kid, partially because they were half submerged in the ball pit, but Sun could tell the kid had short shaggy brown hair and a worn striped, blue t-shirt. They were slowly wading through the ball pit, alert to their surroundings as their right hand clenched onto their left shoulder. Sun could tell that something was wrong, but he would have to get closer to identify the problem. He unplugged the extension cord from his back.
Something is wrong, I’m going down.
Sun, if you jump down there, there will be no way for us to get back up here unless you somehow turn the lights off.
… I’ll figure out another way back up.
Moving to the edge of the balcony, Sun activated his greeting protocol and let out a cherry “Ho ho ho!” before diving into the ball pit.
