The Touch of Rain

Summary:

Soft KiriBaku hours where they dance in the rain because their original plans were ruined.

Work Text:

Kirishima stared at the darkening sky, a frown playing across his lips. Sure, he loved the rain, but he was planning on going out later today for ice cream and skating with Bakugou (so what if those could be indoor activities—it was supposed to be a nice day). Why did it have to rain today of all days?

A clattering came from the kitchen followed by a string of curses, and Kirishima bit back a laugh as he got to his feet to see what his roommate had done this time. He stood in the doorway, watching Bakugou crouch to pick up the fallen pan and somehow managing to knock another pan off the counter.

“Jesus, you’re clumsy today! I guess it’s a good thing our plans are getting cancelled by the weather,” Kirishima said, gliding into the room and depositing the second pan into the sink. “Why do you have so many pans out, anyway?”

“I was going to make fucking breakfast, Shitty Hair, I thought that was obvious,” Bakugou grumbled.

Kirishima rolled his eyes; sometimes Bakugou could be a handful. “Clearly you’re a hazard today. More so than usual, so why don’t you just sit down and come up with something else we can do, hmm? I’ll clean up these dishes and—“ Kirishima stopped at the glare Bakugou was giving him. “What?”

“Why should we have to change our plans?”

“Uh, because the weather is deciding to be an asshole today? Literally just look out the window.”

“The weather gods can go fuck themselves,” Bakugou said.

“Bakugou, no—“

But Bakugou wasn’t listening and stalked out of the room. Kirishima sighed and turned back to the sink to start cleaning the pans—he didn’t get why Bakugou was so upset today. Yeah, Kirishima was disappointed they couldn’t fully enjoy their plans due to the weather, but it wasn’t like they’d been planning it for months. Besides, they could always do them at a later date.

Maybe he was just mad because the weather app had lied again. Those things upset him sometimes. That was probably it.

———

“I wouldn’t be surprised if some areas flood tonight. I just hope it isn’t too bad for them,” Kirishima muttered, staring at his phone as he settled on the couch next to Bakugou. Kaminari had texted him about the amount of rain they were getting around his house and how he’d already seen some items floating down the street (small things that honestly could have been blown away by strong enough winds, but still. It was concerning).

Bakugou merely grunted, drawing his legs up underneath him and shoving himself further into the corner of the couch. Something was obviously bothering him: his shoulders were tense, his glare far more prominent than usual and the lack of anything throughout the day gave Kirishima enough signs to realise that.

No, Bakugou wasn’t a very open person, but usually he interacted with Kirishima in his own ways. He just seemed to be closed off today, shut away in his own world.

“Hey, what’s up?” Kirishima asked, setting his phone on the table in front of him.

“Nothing.” Bakugou didn’t even acknowledge him with his usual side-eye, so there was definitely something up.

Kirishima shuffled closer, moving his head so he was in Bakugou’s line of sight. “That’s a lie, and we both know it.”

Finally, the blond looked at him—it would have been obvious that he was avoiding doing so if he’d turned away again—and Kirishima’s heart stuttered. For a second, Bakugou honestly looked…soft.

His red eyes had lost their signature edge, the sneer usually residing upon his lips gone, his face relaxed as he took in Kirishima.

Of course the moment hardly lasted, and the scowl returned, although it was accompanied by the slightest dusting of pink . “What are you staring at?”

And for some reason, Kirishima blurted out, “You’re beautiful.” His cheeks immediately started burning and he leaned back, suddenly very fascinated with the cushion he was sitting on. Shit, shit, shit, shit, shi-

A choked noise came from the boy next to him, interrupting Kirishima’s panic, and Kirishima looked up to see Bakugou’s cheeks bright red . Yeah, that wasn’t a simple dusting. Boosted by the reaction, Kirishima opened his fucking mouth again. “Can I dance with you? Like, outside? In the rain?”

Fuck! Kirishima slapped his hands over his mouth before he could say anything else, fully expecting Bakugou to punch him in the face. He’d do it himself, but the angle would be awkward and wouldn’t have nearly enough strength behind it.

But no punch came. Instead, after a few seconds of silence, Bakugou muttered, “There’s nothing better to do.”

What. The. Fuck. That was the last thing Kirishima expected to come out of his roommate’s mouth, but he also hadn’t expected to even ask the question, so this whole day was full of surprises! “Sorry?” he squeaked.

If looks could kill, he’d have been dead the first time he met Bakugou, but he’d definitely be dead now. “You fucking heard me, Shitty Hair. Just don’t get me sick, okay? I’ll kill you if you do.”

Kirishima snorted. “The same goes for you!”

“No, it doesn’t since you were the one who suggested it.”

“Yeah, but you accepted. I didn’t force you.”

Bakugou’s eyes narrowed, but he said nothing else, getting to his feet and extending his hand out to Kirishima. Kirishima took it, allowing the boy to pull him to his feet and towards the door.

“So, where exactly are we going to do this?” Kirishima asked, feeling a bubble of laughter form in his chest at the ‘done’ look Bakugou shot him.

“Have you never watched a romance movie?”

Kirishima’s eyebrows raised so fast and so high he was shocked they didn’t just fly off his face. “You have?”

Bakugou was going to punt him into the sun, he knew it. This was how he was going to die. “And what if I have? Is that a problem?”

“N-no, I just wasn’t expecting you to say that; especially now, you know? Like, my offer and everything was sort of yeah, and you actually accepted, then you compare it to a romance movie, and now my stupid gay brain is—fuck…”

Bakugou snorted. Bakugou. Katsuki. Snorted. Could this day get any weirder?

“We’re going to the roof.” He cast a look over his shoulder at Kirishima. “Unless you’re scared of heights?”

“Ha, no. I’m not scared of heights.” He was terrified of heights, but if you think that’d stop him now, you’re mistaken.

So he let Bakugou pull him up to the roof where rain smacked the building relentlessly, drenching him as soon as he stepped out onto the wide expanse of grey slab.

It was freezing, but when Bakugou grabbed his hands and pulled him in so their chests were touching, his whole body warmed (especially his face, but maybe that was because he was getting sick already). Bakugou took the lead, and Kirishima was pleasantly surprised he knew how to dance, allowing himself to be guided as their bodies turned as one.

There was no music to accompany their shuffle across the roof, but they didn’t need any. It was peaceful. Bakugou spun Kirishima one last time before dipping him, a grin forming on both of their faces as they just stared at each other.

“I’m glad the weather ruined our plans,” Kirishima said.

“So am I.” And Bakugou lowered his face to Kirishima’s, pressing a gentle kiss to his lips before pulling back. “I don’t know how or why, but I love you.”

Kirishima laughed. “You’re an ass, but I love you too.”

———

They both got sick and spent the next couple of days cursing each other out. But they’d 100% do it again.

Notes:

I love the idea of dancing in the rain, so I spontaneously wrote this. Sorry if it was ooc, I haven’t written either of them much at all.
