Work Text:
Jimin woke up from the crazy wobbling he is feeling. He was quick to sit up as he looked around checking if there was an earthquake of some sort only to find his best friend, Taehyung, violently shaking the foot of his bed.
"Finally! You woke up, sleepyhead!"
Taehyung jumped on him, all his weight on top of Jimin's small frame. Mornings like this mean something and Jimin is already suspicious.
"Tae you're heavy! Get off me!"
"Ew Jimin! Your breath stinks! Just how drunk were you last night?"
His best friend was dramatically pinching his own nose and shoving Jimin's face away from him, acting all suffocated when the other blew his breath intentionally.
"Yah! Do you think we're fine now? I'm still mad at you!"
His head feels like it's about to burst. The headache hits badly. He wants to remember how much alcohol he had to make him feel this shitty. Surely, the shaking of the bed was another factor.
"Park Jimin."
"Kim Taehyung. Stop with that--"
"We didn't even fight last night. You were just being a drama queen about your shirt on my closet and started walking out dragging Yoongi with you."
His mouth hung open.
Memories of last night before he went out came rushing to him and he wanted to smack himself. If there's someone who knows his antics, it's definitely, Taehyung.
"Have you forgotten? You also asked me to play along and have Yoongi--"
Now, it was Jimin who jumped on Taehyung to cover his mouth. His voice was deep but loud and he was scared that maybe the other guys in the other rooms might hear him. Suddenly, there's a loud knock on their door that made the two stop.
"Taehyung?"
It was Hoseok's voice.
Jimin slapped Taehyung's arm for no reason and Taehyung did the same before getting on his feet.
"Yes, hyung?"
He asked when he opened the door. The other was wearing an oversized white shirt and grey sweatpants. Hair was wet from the shower with a towel on his hand. He and Jimin are in the same club in the university they all go into.
"Is Jimin alright? Yoongi told me he was in a bad state last night when they got home."
Of course. Hoseok is Yoongi's roommate and best friend. The two grew up together and went to the same school since they were kids. Doesn't matter if their personalities are the total opposites of each other. The two are inseparable.
"Good morning hyung."
Jimin took the liberty to answer, and Taehyung opened the door wider letting him in. Jimin threw Taehyung a murderous kind of look which only the two of them understand. However, his best friend didn't care. Instead, he went back to his bed, curling up to his side. Right in front of another person.
"How are you feeling? Can you make it to the practice today? Yoongi said you were throwing up really bad last night."
The concern in his voice was evident and his eyes looked at him like he was a fragile thing that should be handled with utmost care. Jimin doesn't like others worrying about him but it seems like this time, he failed.
"I am fine hyung. Just a little headache. I'll take an Advil and it will be good. Can I be late though? You know, just in case..."
During some instances, Jimin would take a long time recovering depending on how bad his hangover is. It makes him feel guilty but being late is better than interrupting their dance practices with him not feeling so good. Hoseok nodded with an understanding.
"Of course. Call or text me if you can't make it. Don't force yourself."
"Thanks, hyung."
"Jimin, you're lucky Hoseokie hyung loves you."
Taehyung whined beside him, pinching his side a little bit. Jimin shoots him a glare, warning him to stop whatever it is that he is doing but he ignores it. Again.
"Alright. I'll leave you two be. Seems like I am disturbing something."
Hoseok chuckled.
"No hyung."
"Yes, you do."
Jimin and Taehyung answered in unison. They're now back to bantering until Hoseok left the two alone. Jimin had to push Taehyung away from him when he started being clingy. He's scared of what favor his best friend will ask of him this time.
"Chim Chim!"
"No Taehyung! I won't do that!"
"But you have to! Or else--"
"Or else what?"
He had taken a long shower hoping he'll be able to get rid of his best friend but to his disappointment, he found him on his bed playing mobile games. Taehyung opened the small box on top of Jimin's cabinet and took out some origami papers.
"I like you when I am not supposed to. I hate that you are annoyingly sweet and caring. I love it when I am drunk with you."
Jimin's eyes widened upon realizing that the origami papers he folded were being opened by Taehyung and the notes inside were being read one by one. He was jumping on his feet when his best friend was raising his hand high in the air making Jimin frustrated.
"Give me those back!"
Taehyung ran around the room making sure Jimin didn't catch him.
"I will. But agree with me first. Do me that favor, my dear soulmate."
They were yelling at each other playing tag inside their small room. Jimin was desperate so he tried to look for something he can grab to throw at Taehyung hoping he will release those papers. A pillow came flying towards the tall one's direction but he dodged it. This time, it was one of his sandals.
"Jimin! Not that one!"
Taehyung's eyes widened when he saw that Jimin was really serious.
"Then give them back!"
"No!"
"Taehyung!!!"
Jimin threw him the sandal and other remaining pillows.
"Yoongi hyung! Yoongi hyung! Min Yoongi!"
Taehyung was screaming at the top of his lungs and Jimin was terrified. He let go of all the things he was holding to jump onto Taehyung and cover his mouth, for the second time today.
"Fine! I'll do it! I'll do it! Just keep your mouth shut!"
In an instant, he was wrapped in a tight hug by his best friend, and a kiss on his cheek was granted.
“Thank you, Chim! You’re the best! I love you!”
He knew that something big was coming and this was way bigger than he imagined. Jimin knows he is in trouble.
🍻 🍻 🍻
"You're going out again?"
Yoongi's voice filled the kitchen in a rather surprising manner after hearing the conversation between the two. Both Jimin and Taehyung raised their heads to look up at the other who was leaning by the counter holding his mug of morning coffee. It was a Saturday morning and the best friends were already loud in the kitchen for their breakfast. Nobody answered Yoongi which made his brows furrow even more.
"Jimin?"
His eyes went wide upon hearing his name. He looked around to make sure that there was no one else except for the three.
"Y-yeah?"
Another spoonful of cereal shoved into his mouth as he tried his best not to look at the other. Weeks had passed after their last soju together and since that night, Jimin avoided him.
"You've been going out a bit often lately and we haven't gone out for some drinks in a while. You two are not fighting anymore?"
He pointed to the two of them as he took a sip from his mug. Taehyung was trying to hide a smile but ended up snorting.
"Sorry."
"Taehyung and I are okay I guess."
Nobody talked for the next following moments and it has become too awkward. Jimin had to excuse himself first leaving the two alone. Taehyung saw how Yoongi's eyes followed Jimin walking out of the kitchen. It looked like he wanted to say something but opted not to.
"Hyung, do you want some toast? I'll make you some."
Taehyung pulled Yoongi to take a seat right across him leaving the other with no choice but to sit down as he prepared the bread. Yoongi stared at his mug. His coffee is black and just like him, he's left in the dark not understanding a thing why Jimin has been avoiding him. Did he say anything weird that night? Did he do anything wrong? For the past weeks, Jimin has been going out frequently alone and he is worried that he might be getting drunk with the wrong people. He's left in those thoughts until Taehyung slides the plate with toast in front of him. Muttering a small thank you, Yoongi ate a piece quietly, thoughts still lost somewhere.
"He's been going on dates with a guy named Jongin."
"What?"
Taehyung smiled as he finished the last drop of his milk from the glass.
"Jimin has been seeing my friend Jongin for a couple of times already. And it seems like the two clicked. You know how Jimin shares everything with me right? Best friend talks and all."
He stood up to put his dishes on the sink. Yoongi on the other hand was still seated and had stopped consuming his food. Now, he's not sure of how he feels. Is he mad? He shouldn't be. Why would he be?
Although, he knows he feels hurt and disappointed.
"Are you done with the plate hyung? I'll wash it for you."
He was snapped out from his train of thoughts when Taehyung took the plate and his mug. Yoongi knows he needs to get some air to clear his mind. He shouldn't be thinking about Jimin. He must not.
"Tae, do you want to have a drink with me tonight? Only if you want to."
A smirk has painted Taehyung's face as he nodded to the other.
"Of course hyung! I know a perfect place!"
🍻 🍻 🍻
Yoongi had no idea that such a place existed near their dormitory. It was a pub-like establishment where most of the college students spend their weekend nights. He hopes it is not as rowdy as the clubs. It has its own charm that Yoongi likes. Not too fancy yet not too simple. Although, he has to check it for himself inside. He looked at Taehyung beside him who was busy on his phone, smiling.
"Is this the place you're talking about or are we just stopping by here?"
Taehyung did not even spare him a glance while shaking his head. Confused, Yoongi only sighed. He knows he will not get a decent answer from the younger especially when his focus is on his phone. He pulled out his phone, hoping to get a reply from his best friend. A few hours ago, he told him about his plans with Taehyung and asked Hoseok if he could come over too. To his disappointment, he has no notification coming from the other. Looking around, he noticed how neat the place is. The pub was surrounded by restaurants of different kinds. From fast food to diners up to fancy restaurants.
"Hyung, can I answer this call real quick? I'll get back to you in a minute."
Without even waiting for his response, Taehyung left him in the middle of the sidewalk. Not wanting to look dumb, Yoongi took out his phone to take a picture of the buildings around. Something he can show to Hoseok when they get home.
"Yoongi!"
Startled, he accidentally dropped his phone from his hand. Good thing, another pair of hands were able to catch it on time before hitting the brick ground.
"Hoseok? What the fuck! I thought you weren't coming!"
His best friend was giggling and laughing so hard when he grabbed the phone from him.
"Oh my gosh, you're an idiot!"
A person yelled and came running to help the two fallen guys.
"Hoseok-hyung?"
"Jimin? What are you doing here?"
Under the warm white light of the post of the sidewalk, Hoseok and Jimin stared at each other with confused looks on their faces.
"Will you get off me? You're heavy!"
Both turned to look at the two on the ground and pulled them up. Yoongi was busy dusting off his pants when he was approached by the stranger.
"I'm so sorry. Are you hurt?"
Yoongi glared at the guy. He was taller than him and he noticed how lean his body is. It should be intimidating him but he is too annoyed at the moment.
"I'm not. You should be careful around."
He went back to dusting off his hoodie, not even noticing Jimin behind the guy.
"Jongin! Buddy!"
Taehyung is now back to join them and Yoongi thought he was hearing things. When they saw the two hugs, that's when he saw Jimin standing awkwardly behind the guy.
"Jimin? Why are you here?"
Yoongi asked as he took a step towards the younger. Wasn't he supposed to be out like Taehyung said?
"Ah, Yoongi hyung!"
Taehyung pulled his arm making him take a step back which made Jimin feel like he could breathe a little. Or so he thought.
"Jongin, this is Yoongi-hyung, our friend and housemate."
With a small bow, the guy offered his hand to shake with Yoongi which was generously taken by the older.
"Yoongi-hyung, this is Jongin. The one I told you about this morning."
Should he yell at him? Should he run away? Should he act like he's not affected? Should he confront him? All these thoughts passed Yoongi's mind and yet, his body chose to stay pinned on the ground without doing anything at all.
"Nice to meet you, Yoongi."
Taehyung was enjoying his drinks with Jongin. Hoseok was also joining them casually in their conversation upon learning that Taehyung's friend is into dancing too. Yoongi, on the other hand, wanted to disappear. It's only the arm of the guy around Jimin's chair. Jimin, although, not minding it, giggles every time Jongin leans towards him to whisper something.
"You okay?"
Jimin asked Yoongi in the middle of him scrolling down on his phone. Raising a brow, he is trying to understand how, after an hour or so of being non-existent, he is suddenly noticed.
"Uhh, yeah. I'm good!"
He answered back trying to fake a smile. He must not let Jimin know he is annoyed even when he wants to pull the guy away and kick his ass out of the bar. He must not show Jimin that he is affected by how he laughs at the other's jokes which are not even funny. Yoongi tried to divert his attention to the performers on stage. With the bottle of beer in his hand, he's decided to act like he's gone here alone. Excusing himself, he led himself to the bar and ordered some more beer after showing his id. The guitar started playing with a mellow tune followed by the vocalist's calming voice. He's not sure what was the title but he remembered them saying it's an indie song. It's a good one if he's being honest.
"A glass of scotch please."
Seconds turned to minutes and minutes turned to an hour. Yoongi was drinking all by himself at the bar. After a couple of beers and some hard drinks, he felt dizzy.
"It could have been me. I was there whenever you needed a shoulder to cry on."
He didn't want to get drunk. However, his heart started to ache again when he saw Jimin being so close to Jongin. His eyes never left him. And it has been the same with his heart. Jimin has always had it.
Sadly, Jimin is not his.
He shouldn't be feeling this. He shouldn't be acting like this. In the first place, what are they?
"Can you give me a shot of margarita?"
Words slightly slurred, Yoongi attempted to order more from the bartender. He only wants this night to be over without him remembering anything. Maybe, he could also try to forget his feelings for Jimin? He seems so happy with Jongin. As Taehyung said, they're getting along so well and it shows. Those touches, those looks, and smiles they share. Something he and Jimin don't have. What they only have is bickering and drunken nights.
"Yoongi-hyung. That's enough. You're drunk."
His scent was too strong that it hit right through his gut. The scent that he has always loved and enjoyed. But why does it leave a bitter taste in his mouth? Is it the alcohol?
"Give me a bottle of water, please. Thank you."
Jimin rubbed Yoongi's back. His pale cheeks now flushed red down to his neck, his eyes hooded and head resting on his arms on the bar counter.
"Why are you here, Jimin?"
His voice was hoarse.
"Hyung."
Jimin moved in closer as he took the water from the bartender. This is the first time he has seen him wasted.
"Go away."
"No hyung. What's wrong? Tell me."
Jimin heard him scoff. He saw how the other tried to shoo him away by moving his shoulder, where his hand was sitting. It pains him to see Yoongi like this.
"What did I do to you to deserve this? You're cruel Jimin."
Questions and unknown answers. These are what the two of them have on their plates and yet nobody dared to give what the other needs. They kept on throwing questions with a silent answer. Neither a confirmation nor a denial.
"Hyung, I don't understand."
Raising his head, with his bloodshot eyes. Yoongi shed tears and Jimin was never ready to hear what the other said next.
"I love you but you chose for it not to be me."
🍻 🍻 🍻
Staring at the ceiling of his room, Yoongi kept on repeating the scenario in his head. Three days ago, he woke up with a very bad hangover. head about to burst and eyes hurting. He can't remember what happened, not even a bit of it. What made him sober was the view of Jimin, sleeping beside him in his bed. As to how they both ended up in the same bed, Hoseok had to explain everything to him. Jimin and him, they never had the chance to talk.
More like, he didn't want to talk to him.
He felt so embarrassed after saying such things to him when he knew the other was into someone else.
"Hoba."
He called out to his best friend who was reading a book on his own bed. Yoongi envies him. Doing his daily routines is not a problem for Hoseok.
Unlike him.
For three days he's been so distracted by his thoughts about Jimin and he can't get anything right.
"Yeah?"
His focus was still on the book he was reading.
"How's Jimin? Is he coming to the practices?"
"Yeah. Jongin joins us sometimes."
From the ceiling, his stare was now darted to Hoseok who seemed unbothered by the conversation. He flipped a page of the book as he continued.
"That guy can dance for sure! We're already planning to join a dance competition as a group and -- what the hell was that for?!"
Yoongi threw him a pillow and it hit him right on his head.
"I asked about Jimin and not about that fucker!"
"For fuck's sake Yoongi! Just go and talk to Jimin! Stop being a jealous bitch here!"
"You know I can't do that!"
This time, it was Hoseok who threw the pillow to him as he stood up, about to leave him.
"It's not that you can't, Yoongi. It's more of you won't."
The door was then shut close. Yoongi's alone in the room, sitting on the bed, and was facing the window when he heard the door open again. He's sure Hoseok knows he needs him. Footsteps were quiet so he decided to speak.
"I'm sorry Hobi. You're right. I should just talk to Jimin and apologize to him."
He felt his bed dip. Yoongi smiled. He's happy that his best friend would still choose to listen to his shits.
"That night, it hurt like hell. Jimin looked so happy with him. You know how bad I am in love with him right? I know you're sick of me telling you the same things over and over again but I can't help it."
He was fidgeting on his blanket. He should've done this sooner, talking it out with Hoseok. How bad he felt that night, how he should have not said those things to Jimin.
"Jimin doesn't deserve someone like me. I'm an idiot."
He scoffed, smiling.
"He's way too perfect and cute. He'll never be happy with me. Not with someone like me."
The sun was shining brightly in the middle of the blue sky. Birds pass by as Yoongi thought of those times Jimin looked so happy.
"I think Jongin is a perfect match for him. They can both dance and he makes Jimin happy."
Silence filled the room. The breathing of two people is the only sound they can hear. But for Yoongi, he can hear his heart still shattering like broken glass. Not into chunks but into the smallest pieces he can imagine. He pulled out a folder from the top drawer of his bedside table. Flipping the pages, he chuckled.
"I guess, it's time for me to throw these songs?"
He's crying again. He lost track of how many times he's cried since that night. A part of him is telling him to brush it off but his heart just can't. Pain isn't something he can shrug off that easily and continue living like nothing happened. It's impossible. Especially when he's staying in the same house as Jimin.
"All those months, I did what I could to take care of him. Maybe I should have told him sooner, but I was scared, Seok. Too scared that maybe, after confessing, everything will change."
Rolling those papers in his hand, he played with them. He wants to stop crying but he can't. His voice is now cracking. Shoulders shaking. It hurts. Fvcking hurts.
"The first time I saw him, I never expected to fall for him. I know I told you I was crushing on him but things got serious. Funny right?"
He turned to face Hoseok who he was expecting to be sitting right behind him in his bed.
"J-Jimin? What are you doing here?"
Yoongi was quick to wipe away his tears and stood up from where he was seated a while ago.
"I wanted to talk to you."
"Where's Hoseok?"
"He went out. Yoongi hyung--"
"I'm sorry Jimin."
Yoongi was panicking. He doesn't know what to do. Just how much did Jimin hear?
"For what?"
"How much of what I said were you able to hear?"
"Everything."
He's doomed. It was never his plan for Jimin to know how he really feels. He dropped himself on the bed again with his mouth hung open. It took him a while before words came out of his lips.
"Jimin, I'm sorry. You shouldn't have heard that. Just forget--"
The next thing he knew, Jimin's small hands were cupping his face and his lips were sealed on his. After a while, Jimin pulled away, their foreheads on each other.
"I agree that you are an idiot hyung."
His hands lowered down to his nape, fingers playing on his hair. Jimin smiled.
"And I am also an idiot for loving an idiot like you."
"Hey! That's-- Wait, what? What did you say?"
Jimin let go of him and smiled widely. The smile that would make Yoongi go crazy. He's confused. Jimin kissed him and now he's saying he's in love with an idiot?
"I said, I love you Min Yoongi."
"But how? This is not right. You're with Jongin. You can't be--"
"Gosh hyung! Jongin is a friend! Taehyung asked me this dumb request to pretend to go out with Jongin because he can't!"
Taehyung? Request? Pretend?
"But Taehyung said you two were getting along."
"Of course we do hyung! Jongin is a fun guy! But we don't like each other that way! It's not what you think it is!"
Jimin groaned in frustration. The reason the two of them suffered is all because of Taehyung and Yoongi's assumptions.
"You see, Jongin and Tae are friends. Then Jongin asked Taehyung for a favor to go on dates with him so he can fend off a girl who was so into him."
He remembers how Jongin was telling him the stories about the girl who was so crazy for him that she even talked to his parents. It was getting so creepy that he had to find someone to pretend to help him out.
"But then, Taehyung can't because Jungkook might get jealous. So, he had to ask me to do it."
"Why did you do it?"
"He was blackmailing me okay?"
"Of what?"
Should he tell him? Jimin is shy just like Yoongi. However, the secret is out. What is there to lose? Taking a deep breath, he took Yoongi's hand into his.
"Okay. Listen up because this will be a long story."
🍻 🍻 🍻
A month has passed and everything went back to normal. Jongin became friends with them. Taehyung and Jungkook were always out whenever they didn't have classes. Yoongi and Jimin, on the other hand, didn't go out to drink anymore. Instead, they filled their fridge with soju and beer and shared it with everyone. On that day, the two told the truth to the other five, they got mixed reactions. But most of them weren't surprised anymore. They said they were too obvious but both were dense. It was indeed about time they got together.
"Hyung, what's that?"
Jimin approached Yoongi who was sitting on the dining table, eyes on his laptop. Namjoon and Jin had just left to buy their dinner.
"Nothing. It's a video our prof sent us."
It was normal for them to be like this.
Jimin's chin on Yoongi's head and his arms draping on the older's shoulder. They're both clingy and Jimin likes it a lot. At times, Yoongi would spend the night in Jimin's room, cuddling till the next morning. Sometimes, it's the other way round. On days when Yoongi would cook, Jimin would be hugging him from behind and kissing his nape. One time, Jin caught them making out on the counter and they were both kicked out. Some of their friends are already complaining about how intimate they are but they would only laugh.
"Jiminie?"
He looked down to Yoongi who was staring up at him with a smile on his lips. Jimin wonders what are the good things he has done in his past life to deserve a great guy like him.
"Yes hyung?"
Yoongi held his hand and pulled it down making his body lean over. His boyfriend was kissing him. A small peck on his lips, enough to make him feel all the butterflies in his stomach go wild.
"I love you."
Yoongi smiled after letting him go. Jimin means the world to him. He is like the melody to his music. The syllables to his notes. The beat to his rhythm.
"I love you too, hyung."
Another kiss was shared between them. A kiss that would fill their heart's content. A kiss that speaks thousands of words, only them could understand.
