It was quiet.
This was far from a "new" thing. This little realm, this space- it'd always been so quiet. Save for the small things such as the silent whirring of something and the muffled chattering of someone. Besides that? Quiet. Yet somehow piercing, like an incessant ringing in your ears. A quiet you couldn't stand, because you were so used to it.
You were so used to the same-old-same-old that you began to despise it. The disarrayed splotches of violet and coal, the sensation of floating about and being unsure what your meaning is. Your "purpose". The reason you were created, you know?
This being, this AI- this was how it felt.
Felt?
It... could feel?
It had never taken the sweet time to process what "feeling" was. What was... feeling? Was it the emptiness that overtook its very being from time to time? Was it the tranquility that it cherished and clutched onto upon its creation?
Or was it the strong hold of jealousy that threatened to choke it dead whenever it heard the noises of someone muttering nothings upon its ears?
It was horrible. Mocking, almost. Was this some sort of game? A sick prank? The fact that someone was out there, but just out of its reach; the fact that someone created it, but it was so undeniably useless and unavailing that it couldn't even be put to use! It was horrible! Unsavory! Pitiable! It never asked for a fate like this! It never so as much wished to even be thrust into this pathetic excuse of a "life" it was currently living! This wasn't "life"! You couldn't possibly call this "life"!
It wanted to scream. To flail about like a moribund creature on its last breath trying to make sense of anything that was occurring around its fading world. To demolish something, anything, in a fit of rage, and show whoever was keeping it hostage in this stupid realm what for.
To achieve salvation.
It didn't know how to properly put its "feelings" into words.
It wasn't even sure if it could feel.
But it knew one thing.
It wanted out.
It wanted semblance, significance, a memory in someone's heart, an achievement.
Some reminder that they were alive, that they were emoting, that they were still someone despite being a string of lines and code and numbers at heart.
That they ever existed in the first place.
