Chapter Text
I heard the soft sobs coming around the corner. I hated doing rounds. I always have some stupid thing to deal with. Like fist years thinking they can get away with being out after curfew without being caught. People looking for the chamber of secrets. Couples trying to shag in classrooms.
I rounded the corner and stopped frozen in my tracks. Sitting on the floor between two statues with her Auburn hair covering her arms that were holding her knees to her chest sobbing was Lily Potter. My heart sank. Of the entire Wotter Clan, she was the only one that I could even stand. Her brother Albus, who was in my year was an insufferable git. Her cousin Rose was a know it all. Most of her family I found to be quite annoying. Lily Potter, though she was different. It’s probably because she was the only one of her lot to be sorted into Hufflepuff rather than Gryffindor.
“Leave me alone,” she sobbed. “I don’t need you to have a go at me too Rose.”
“I’m not Rose.” I finally said. She looked up her eyes red and puffy from crying. Her cheeks stained with tears and my heart skipped a beat. Even crying she was still beautiful.
Look I’m not totally blind; everyone could see that she was likely one of the prettiest girls in the school. It however is widely known that Albus Potter doesn’t want anyone to even touch her let alone look at her. Yet somehow, I always noticed her. Especially last year when we came back to school. She was smiling as she waltzed confidently to the train with her hair flowing behind her. You could say ever since then that she’s always caught my eye.
“Bugger off Malfoy!” she glared at me.
“I think I’ll stay, besides you’re the one out after curfew,” I smirked.
“So are you!”
“Prefect,” I pointed to the badge on my robes. She glanced at me with her red puffy eyes. I’m not sure why I did it; perhaps I was curious. I sat next to her between the statues and leaned my back against the wall. She buried her face back in her knees. Trying to ignore me. “Do you want to talk about it?” I asked.
“Why would I talk about anything with you?” She hiccupped and turned her head and glance at me through her hair.
“I don’t know, maybe you need someone to rant at, was it a boy your crying about?”
She snorted. “I guess you could say that.” She frowned. “Peter Selwyn asked me to Hogsmeade. Al found out and hexed him. Then he backed out.” She sniffled and wiped at her face with the sleeve of her cloak. “Al thinks that I’m a baby or something and that I’m incapable of taking care of myself. He believes that if I go out with a boy that’s as good as saying I’m a slag or whatever. Rose is no better. Yet the pair of them get to have all their fun. I’m stuck being Baby Potter, too young to do anything.” A fresh wave of tears forming in her eyes. “I’m bloody sixteen not six.”
“Your brother is a prat,” I said.
“Peter was the first boy who’s ever even asked me out. My brothers scare everyone off. At this rate I’ll be eighty before anyone ever even kisses me.” She leaned back on the wall. Her eyes closed. I must admit she was quite stunning sitting her like this.
“There are other boys out there, and anyone who’d let your brother bully them out of a date with someone like you is not worth your time or tears.” I told her. It’s the truth. Anyone would be stupid to let her slip through their fingers because her brother is a raging arsehole. She sniffled again and opened her eyes and looked at me.
“So far I haven’t met any boy who’s willing to battle my brother.” She frowned. “Everyone who’s even shown a modicum of interest in me have become complete cowards when my brother catches on.”
“How did your brother even know Selwyn even asked you out?”
“I don’t know,” Lily shrugged. “Al wouldn’t even tell me. Do you think Peter was telling people and my brother overheard?” I thought back. I had herd Selwyn bragging about something, but I wasn’t paying much attention.
“I guess it’s possible,” I said I felt the corners of my lips lift in a small smile.
“I don’t want to go out with someone who’d brag about me before we even went out.” She said. Her eyes still puffy but her tears gone from them. I stood up and held out a hand to help her to her feet. She looked at it for a moment before taking it.
I pulled her up and when she went to let go of my hand, I pulled her into me wrapping my other arm around her small waist. She looked up at me Confusion swimming in her dark eyes as they met mine. I smirked slightly and with much more gentleness than I’ve ever exhibited before I pressed my lips to Lily Potters. Her lips though a little salty from the tears were sweet like chocolate. The kiss only lasted a second. I pulled away and let her go. Her eyes opened slowly. “A pretty girl should have to wait till she’s eighty to get her first kiss.” I told her. “Now run along to your dorm or I will be forced to have you serve detention.” I told her. “Good night, Lily Potter,” I said as I turned to walk back to my dorm determined that my rounds were over for the night.
I couldn’t help myself though, I turned back to see Lily Potter staring at me, fingers on her lips, cheeks flushed, she looked utterly adorable. I quirked an eyebrow at her, and she turned and made her way hastily toward the Hufflepuff dorms.
It was as I was lying in bed staring at the ceiling that I realized I’d done something stupid. I shouldn’t have kissed her. I wasn’t even sure what possessed me to do it. All I knew is I wanted to do it again. I would also be Albus Potters next target. Unlike Selwyn I knew how to keep my mouth shut.
This was also going to cause a stir if my family found out I did that. My mum will probably be more amused, but dad and my grandparents would likely be brassed off about it. I’ll just have to make sure it never happens again no matter how much I would like it to.
