Running as fast as possible really wasn't a good plan although she couldn't deny it was the most prominent one she could think of at the moment. Somehow she managed to ignore the thought but it took all of her self-control to stand perfectly still while a vampire in the throws of blood rage came near her.
The veins in his forehead stood out, his eyes a deep black and his lips were curled back in a menacing snarl that shot shivers down her spine.
What the hell was wrong with her? Could she honestly say that even like this Matthew turned her on? Diana didn’t even have to think twice as she nodded to herself. Yes, she could definitely say that. But now was certainly not the time.
"Matthew." She held out her hand placatingly. "Take my hand." She didn't know what had brought this on but they could figure out the cause later. The most important thing was bringing him out of the rage that held him tight in its grip.
"I can't." Matthew stepped back before she could touch him. He knew he had two choices. The first one being he could listen to Diana and let her calm him or he could leave, hunt down the cause of his rage and eradicate it. He stared at the door as his instincts warred inside of him.
"No." She stepped closer. "You don't want to do that." Another slow, careful step brought her even closer. "Look at me, Matthew."
His eyes darted to hers. "I can smell him on you." He sneered as every fiber of his being urged him to remove the unfortunate man from his existence.
Him? Diana thought hard as she wondered who he could mean and then it came to her. "You mean Sean?" He was jealous? Was that what this was about? "He and I are friends, Matthew. Just friends."
A flurry of snarls erupted from Matthew's throat as he headed towards the door. He was going to find this friend and..... His thoughts were cut off as Diana stepped in front of the door to block his exit.
"Matthew, stop."
"He touched you." Matthew snarled as if that explained everything. And in his blood raged mind it made perfect sense.
What could she do? How could she fix this? A daring thought occurred to her; one she wasn't sure she could do after all she had only known him for a little over a week but she had to try. “I’ll take a shower to remove his scent. But you’d have to do something for me.”
The snarls began to quiet as Matthew managed to speak. “What?”
“You have to come with me.” She’d thought at first she could just hop in the shower and wash off quickly leaving Matthew to wait for her but she had decided against it. She wanted him where she could at least try to stop him if he lost control and decided to go after her friend.
Silence reigned as time all but stood still as if waiting with bated breath for what would happen next.
A part of him would rather just kill the man she called friend so he could never cover her scent with his again. But the other part, the one that wanted Diana in more ways than he should knew that couldn’t be an option.
Diana reached out for him with slow, careful movements. “Coming?”
Matthew barely managed to nod his head as he placed his hand in hers and allowed her to lead him into the bathroom.
A few minutes later she shut the bathroom door and locked it before she turned to face Matthew. “Promise me you’ll stay.”
He gave her a firm nod. “Yes.”
Even though the word was curt, the tone of his voice guttural Diana knew he would keep his word. There was nothing left but to get to it. The sound of her swallowing hard echoed through the tiny bathroom. What she was about to do was a bit unnerving. No one had ever seen her take a shower before. She glanced up at Matthew but this was for him and she would do whatever she had to help him through this. With a silent sigh she leaned down and turned on the water before she began to remove her clothing.
Matthew’s dark eyes widened as the blood rage slowly began to ebb and although it took more will power than he thought he had Matthew quickly turned away to give her some semblance of privacy. He wanted to tell her that he was sorry, that she didn’t have to do this but to his everlasting shame a long, lethal sounding snarl ripped from his throat as the other man’s scent wafted to him once again.
“Easy.” Diana whispered as she quickly stepped into the shower.
She quickly washed her hair with a sweet coconut scented shampoo, once her hair was done she squeezed a big glob of milk and honey scented body wash on a pouf and scrubbed every inch of her skin removing every trace of another man’s scent from her body. As she rinsed off she glanced at Matthew and smiled as the set of his shoulders began to relax.
Diana shut off the shower, dried the water from her skin as fast as she could before she wrapped a towel around her body and stepped out. “Is this better?”
Slowly, Matthew turned around, took a step closer and breathed deeply inhaling the intoxicating honey, coconut scent that was Diana. “Much.” He stared down into her eyes an apology ready on his lips. But before he could even think to begin she interrupted.
“Don’t.” Diana placed her fingers against his lips. “There’s no reason to apologize.” Her blue eyes gazed adoringly into his. “It’s what you needed.”
Without a word Matthew scooped her up into his arms and buried his face into her neck, and growled hungrily against her skin.
She giggled as his breath caressed her neck. “What are you doing?”
His arm tightened around her as he reached out to open the door. “I’ll show you.” Although, there wasn’t the slightest hint of another man’s scent on her body the memory of it still lingered in his mind. A wave of possessiveness washed through him. He wanted to be the only man whose scent she wore. Matthew glanced down at her cradled in his arms and wiggled his eyebrows playfully. “Well you did say....”
Full-fledged laughter erupted from her as he carried to her bedroom. “If it’s what you need.” She repeated softly as he laid her gently on the bed, her arms opened wide beckoning him to join her.
Without a word he removed the damp towel from her body before he hastily discarded his own clothes. A few whispered words of want, need and desire fell from his lips as he laid down beside her, pulled her into his arms and tucked her warm, willing body beneath his.
