Work Text:
When you get called in by your daughter's kindergarten teacher, you don't know what you were supposed to be expecting. Natasha's fingers were intertwined with yours as the two of you made your way to her classroom.
"What did you think Jessie did?" You questioned. Natasha simply shrugged.
"I mean... It was show and tell today but I wasn't sure what she had brought in. Maybe it was something with that," Natasha mused. You furrowed your eyebrow.
"It was show and tell today? She told me it was next week!"
Natasha leaned over to peck your lips, kissing the pout away from your face. "You know how our daughter is, always playing jokes."
"She likes you better," you crossed your arms. Before Natasha could reply, Jessie's teacher, Miss James, walked out and greeted the two of you, gesturing toward the classroom. Jessie was standing there with a lopsided smile, waving at you and Natasha. You smiled at your daughter before taking a seat across from the teacher.
"Thank you for coming in," Miss James started, glancing up. "Mrs and Mrs..."
You opened your mouth, about to answer her when Natasha cut in. "Our last names are none of your business."
"Y/n and Natasha is just fine," you side eyed your wife, who shrugged at you. Miss James nodded uncertainty, adjusting her glasses.
"So Jessie has a show and tell today. The assignment was to bring in something that means a lot to her parents." You glanced at Jessie, who just smiled innocently up at you. Natasha nudged you with her elbow and you took her hands in yours.
"Oh," you glanced at Jessie again. "I didn't even know she was doing that"
"Clearly." Miss James adjusted her glasses again and you resisted the urge to reap it right off her face. She continued on, taking out a report. "So most kids brought in family heirlooms like jewelry, instruments, and photos."
"Okay..." you continued on, unsure where this conversation was going. So it's show and tell, what did Jessie do that made Miss James call you in?
"Alright," Natasha glanced at you, and you shrugged at her.
Miss James continued. "But umm... Jessie brought in... umm you know what, let me read you what she presented before she presented the item..."
"Um, okay," you shared another glance with Natasha. What the heck did she bring to school now...
"Ahem... this is my mom's favorite thing." You tilted your head in confusion. What was your favorite thing? "It's small and hard to find." Natasha glanced over.
"It makes a lot of noises," Miss James struggled to read out the next line. "And it makes people make a lot of noise."
"Ah..." a look of horror flashed across your face. Natasha was faring better than you, but you could see it in her eyes.
"Oh my gosh..."
Jessie giggled and perked up, adding in unhelpfully. "A lot."
"And then she proceeded to say, actually, it makes people squeal." Miss James glanced up with her glasses, as if asking the two of you to explain.
"Oh my gosh-" Natasha squeezed your hand.
"Which was one of the words we used in last week's spelling test so...there's yeah..."
Jessie nodded with a huge grin. You rubbed your temple, glancing at Miss James, hesitating to ask. "What-wha-what color was this item?"
"I don't know why that it's- it's black."
"A black one," you mused, turning to Natasha. "Do we even have a black one?"
Natasha looked more relieved now. "No, I don't think so. We had to return one because it was white."
Miss James ignored the conversation going on, taking out the item. "This is the item that Jessie brought in. A taser!"
"Oh my gosh," you couldn't contain your sign of relieve.
"Thank god," Natasha breathed out.
"That was a close one," you laughed, squeezing Natasha's hand as she leaned over and pecked your cheek. "Cause we thought-"
"What did you think it was?" Miss James exclaimed.
"Nothing," you sobered up, trying to look more presentable. "Nothing at all."
Jessie spoke up again. "I was going to bring the magic wand from your top drawer that sounds like an electric toothbrush but it was too high to reach."
Your eyes widened again.
"But you can reach the taser?" Miss James raised an eyebrow.
"Yep," Jessie chirped up.
"Umm... yeah, we gotta go," you stood up from your chair, grabbing Jessie's arms.
"And I'll take that," Natasha took the item away from Miss James in a swift move.
"Ah! I can report you to the police, you know?"
"You don't even know our last name," Natasha leaned across the table with a dangerous glint in her eyes. "And I'm holding a taser."
