Work Text:

"Y'know, never really understood why people would wanna dress up like The Joker," Kid Flash said frowning as they walked past a group of kids, one was dressed as a witch, another Wonder Woman and then The Joker. "What's the appeal?"

He was a psychotic Clown…

Robin shrugged; he was too excited about being able to actually go out for Halloween. The last few times he wanted to celebrate every Villain felt like making an appearance. So, the second Bruce left the cave for a quiet night Dick decided to stay home. "I heard the houses over here give out full size candy bars." He grabbed KFs arm and he picked up his pace.

He was in a hurry out of just the sheer joy of being able to go out and do this...and in an attempt to get as much candy as he could before Alfred notified Bruce that he wasn't at the manor. Kid Flash seemed amused, "You literally live in the richest part of Gotham, we could have started there."

Robin paused, "They're all rude."

And he didn't want them to be like, Awe is that Dick Grayson dressed like Robin! How cute...how accurate.

KF just snickered and the two walked up the steps of a large house, "Did you do this a lot with your parents?"

"Depends on where we were." The traveling thing kind of made things difficult, plus they'd just celebrate as a family. So it was a bit of an adjustment when he went the first two years being the only one in the manor even wanting to try and celebrate. Alfred tried, but Halloween was the busiest time of the year for Batman so he was always down in the cave. And when he really started to be Robin he was either left behind in the cave with Alfred or trailing after Batman watching everyone else get candy.

Sounds childish but he was only 11, he wanted to milk the opportunity to trick or treat for as long as possible.

And if Batman did need him by chance he was already Robin! So he wasn't being irresponsible; he was just acting his age for once. "Trick or treat!" Wally said grinning widely. While he was over the moment he was invited to tag along he was like free candy? Yes please count me in.

A kind lady opened the door and the two left the house satisfied with the large amount of candy they'd just received. "You weren't kidding, they really don't go cheap here." He peered in his bag, he'd definitely enjoy all of this later. "We should do a horror movie after this."

Robin nodded, if Bruce doesn't kill me that is.

"Hey, nice Robin and Speedy costume!"

Kid Flash looked up quickly, "It's Kid Flash, Speedy is Green Arrow's partner." It was rather straightforward.

"No, I'm pretty sure it's Speedy, cuz he's fast." The kid dressed as a dinosaur sneered. "Trust me I know my heroes, I've even seen Batman up close once with Robin when the bank was robbed." He bragged, "Robin even gave me an autograph and said I could be just like him."

Kid Flash raised an eyebrow and turned to his friend who seemed incredibly amused. "He did?" He leaned against the fence, "I'm honestly jealous, how lucky!"

The kid seemed to be enjoying this, "Oh now that I think of it Robin's belt is black not yellow." He then walked away, "Maybe one day you'll get to meet him too!"

The second the kid was out of earshot Robin burst into a fit of laughter, "You've got Stans, Rob." KF nudged him with his elbow, "Maybe you'll have a Twitter fan page like me."

"After seeing the one people made for Batman? I'll pass on that."

"...fair enough."

It had been about an hour, and he wasn't gonna lie, he was surprised Batman hadn't tried to contact him and same with Alfred. Sneaking out wasn't easy in Wayne Manor and the fact he made it out as Robin and managed to meet up with Kid was even risky.

Sorta suspicious.

Did Batman know?

Yikes.

"I think this is the most candy I've gotten in years." Kid sat down on the bench and he opened a chocolate bar.

"You're supposed to check before you eat, this is Gotham." Last year candy was tainted with a hallucinogenic drug of some sort, it was a mess.

Let's just say a lot of kids had to throw their candy out and there were probably a lot of tears.

".....Can we trick or treat at my neighborhood next year?"

"I'm afraid Robin might be out tonight."

"He said he was staying home," Batman said frowning, he should have figured Dick was plotting something. The moment he said he'd stay behind and just watch movies should have been a red flag.

Getting him to stay put was impossible.

"I tried to contact him but he's keeping a low profile."

"I'll find him, Alfred." It couldn't be that hard, sure every kid In Gotham was out but how hard could it be to spot your own kid?

Costumes were getting too good, he'd seen at least 10 Jokers, 4 Green arrows, a Flash here and there and over 50 Robin's running around the streets cackling.

"Wow, your Batman costume is really good." A kid in a dinosaur costume said walking up to him, "Y'know I met Batman before, I got an autograph and he told me I could be Robin." He grinned, "Cuz I'm strong." The kid paused, "Although I'm pretty sure the belt is supposed to be blue…"

Just as the kid was turning to leave he bumped into someone dressed as Robin. "Oh you two again?" The kid scowled and looked at Robin and Kid Flash , "wow look it's now the knockoff dynamic duo, " He grumbled walking away.

"Hey nice Batman costume, looks accurate." Robin grinned, "Y'know I think I've met the real Batman before, he told me I could be his Robin."

"The real Batman says you need to go home. Now." He said, hiding his amusement.

Robin pouted, "I'm sorry for sneaking out. But me and Kid aren't dead and we have candy." He held up a bag, "I'll share if you promise not to be angry with me."

"I'll give you all the Snickers bars," Kid Flash said, "You look hungry." He held one out and much to his surprise he took it.

"We can hit a few houses on the way back."

Robin's eyes widened, "R-Really? You're serious?"

Batman nodded, "I know a neighborhood that gives out party sized chocolate bars."

Kid Flash stood there awkwardly unsure of what to do. "Come-on Kid!" Robin grabbed his  down the sidewalk, Batman not far behind.

He'd always wanted to go out as Batman.

And as mature as Dick could be, he was still a kid. And seeing him enjoy something so innocent with his best friend was something he'd like to see more often.

Notes:

I posted this on my Wattpad for Halloween, and it slipped my mind that it could go on ao3 as well.

Whoops, well it can be Halloween any day if you're confused enough :D
