Work Text:

You said you hated the ocean, but you're surfin' now

“P’Pick, come on! Let’s go to the beach, hmm?? You know how much I love the ocean,” Rome pulls his boyfriend’s arms before unleashing his undefeatable weapon, pouty lips and puppy eyes. Throughout their relationship, Pick never said no when he did that, not even once. More like he couldn’t. But there’s a first for everything.

“Ai’Rome, I told you I’m tired. There are so many animals to attend to today. Stop pulling my arms,”  when Pick tried to pull his arms, he hit Rome in the face which made the latter pout and hold his face. Pick just looked at him, shaked his head and walked towards their room. He didn’t even say sorry. Rome tried his best to stop himself crying but it was a futile attempt.

‘Maybe P’Pick was just tired’, he said to himself.

Rome closed his eyes when he remembered that one moment that was the start of their falling apart. His phone screen was showing a picture of Pick from his Instagram, in his fit body that was so unlike Pick, surfing on the high waves. He can’t help but remember all the times he tried to convince Pick to go to the beach with him, especially the last time he did.

I said, I'd love you for life, but I just sold our house

“P’Pick, this is so nice!!!” Rome jumped around their new house while Pick was just softly smiling at him. Their own house. It feels so nice to say that. Finally, something that they share. It’s not just Pick’s, not just Rome’s, it’s theirs. “Do you like it? It’s not that big but it’s enough for the both of us, right?”

Rome smiles and nods before walking towards his boyfriend’s warm embrace. He never imagined that they'd reach this point, considering what he’d been through because of his boyfriend’s attitude. He’ll surely enjoy every bit at every chance he’ll get.

They roamed the whole house together, it looks so good even though it’s kinda small compared to their family houses. But just like what Pick said, it’s enough for the both of them. “I love this house so much.”

“Our house.” Rome smiled at Pick’s correction before softly pecking his cheeks.

Rome sighed when he finally clicked the post button. It took him so much courage to do that. This is something he never thought he'd do when they started dating. This house holds so many memories, both good and bad. But that’s all that he has now, memories.

We were kids at the start, I guess we're grown-ups now

Couldn't ever imagine even havin' doubts

But not everything works out

Rome remembered everything as he lay down in his new bed. Just his, not his and Pick’s. And that hurts, it hurts to admit that from now on, it’s just him. No more grumpy Pick who’s ever grumpier in the morning but becomes less grumpy once Rome gives his morning kiss. No more teasing each other till Rome fakes his cry which leads to Pick raising the white flag because that’s one thing he hates the most, seeing Rome cry.

Rome never thought they'd reach this point. After everything they’ve been through, Rome realized that everything still comes to an end. Not everything works out and that’s just life. Not everything goes your way and you can’t do anything about it.

Rome closes his eyes as he feels the tears streaming down his face again. That’s the only thing he can do right now, cry. Cry for all the could’ve beens and all the should’ve beens.

Now I'm out dancin' with strangers

Rome was too drunk to even recognize what he’s doing. Emma and Porsche brought him to the club so he can drink the pain away and cry without anyone judging him. Good for them, their relationship worked out.

“Woooh! Go Rome,” Rome hears Emma’s familiar voice, cheering for him as he sways his body to the upbeat rhythm of the song playing in the club. They’ve been club hopping these days, Rome can finally unleash his hidden dancing skills.

You could be casually datin'

Rome was shocked when he turned his head and saw the familiar figure of the person he’s missing the most and the reason why he’s in this club right now. Pick… with a girl… and they’re dancing together.

Rome immediately turned his head away and tore his eye from the sight. He can’t cry now, not right now. His heart was hurting seeing that familiar smile that only he can emit, well, in the past. He can’t help but remember all the times he tried to persuade Pick to join and go clubbing with them but he refused every single offer. He just offered to drive them home when they’re already drunk.

Damn, Rome thought. Pick loved him, but it’s not enough.

Damn, it’s all changing so fast

Indeed. The things they used to do together, now Rome is doing it alone while Pick with someone else. If only Rome can turn back time. But the break-up is a mutual decision even though it was only Pick who fell out of love. Rome knows his worth enough to not force Pick to stay with him.

This is just how life is. People come and go. But Rome wished Pick was the one who’ll stay.
