Work Text:
Sana broke down again. For the second time tonight. Why did she have to be scolded? She always did her job well, putting in her best effort to do her work properly. Many people would even think of her as a workaholic. She was always responsible and meticulous, even going one step further whenever she could to make everyone else’s lives easier. Today, she messed up. It was just one mistake. An administrative mistake at that, not even at the slightest related to her professional work. Yet, here she was, curled up on the floor after getting yelled at over the phone by her boss.
Most people knew Sana to be a bubbly and highly energetic girl. The ray of sunshine in the office that brought everybody’s spirits up. What most people didn’t know was that she was also highly sensitive. Sana hated getting scolded and hated loud noises. She avoided these by ensuring that she always did her work perfectly, but everybody makes mistakes from time to time. Getting shouted at over the phone sent waves of anxiety through her system. Hot tears flowed from her eyes as she responded with the necessary ‘sorry’s and the occasional ‘I’ll be better next time’. A sinking heaviness made its way into Sana’s chest as she lay on the cold hard tiles of her kitchen floor. She brought her knees up and hugged them tightly with her arms. It was getting hard to breathe in between the sobs. Sana desperately needed someone to be here. Someone to hold her and feed her praises and give her their full attention.
Sana picked up her phone from where it had been cast aside into the corner. Tears fell and blotched on her phone screen as she shakily opened up her contacts and scrolled.
Mina.
Sana wiped the tears blurring her vision as she pressed ‘dial’ and put the phone on speaker. She placed the phone on the floor, laying down again next to it.
It only took three rings.
‘Hello? Sana?’
‘Mina…’ Sana whimpered shakily.
‘Hey Sana. Are… you okay?’
‘No.’
‘Oh.’
‘I’m sorry Mina. I- I- I didn’t… consider if you were busy. Are you? I should just hang up.’
‘No. Sana.’ Mina sighed. ‘I’m coming over to your home now. That’s where you are right?’
‘Yeah…’
‘Okay. Stay still. I’ll be there in a jiffy. See you soon.’
‘See you.’
Sana didn’t regret giving Mina her spare key. She definitely wasn’t going to complain when Mina was able to let herself in without her having to get up from her spot on the floor.
‘Sana! Where are you?’
Sana let out a loud whimper to let Mina know her location behind the kitchen counter. Mina rushed over, quickly rounding the counter. She found Sana in a pitiful state, curled up and crying in a corner.
‘Oh no baby!’
Mina hurried to Sana, quickly wrapping her in a tight and reassuring hug. Sana snuggled closer, placing her face in her favorite comfort spot: the crook of Mina’s neck. She nosed the soft skin there before inhaling Mina’s scent deeply. The familiarity and warmth of her lover caused the dam to break. Sana started bawling, babbling incoherently about what had happened as her tears soaked the fabric of Mina’s shirt.
‘Shh… It’s okay baby. Just let it all out.’ Mina cooed at Sana and gently trailed her fingers up and down Sana’s back to soothe her.
Mina gently rocked back forth, creating a steady rhythm that calmed Sana. Eventually, the sobs died down, replaced by the occasional hiccup and sniffles.
‘Can I bring you to bed?’
‘Don’t go… Please don’t leave me.’
‘Of course not. I’ll cuddle with you all night.’
‘...Thank you.’
Mina tightened her hold as she hoisted herself and Sana up. She never broke the hug as she slowly trudged Sana to the bedroom with her. Once they were laid down, she pulled the blanket up, comfortably engulfing the two of them in warm and toasty sheets. Mina spooned Sana, placing her arms around her waist whilst Sana folded herself into a fetal position. Sana’s eyes fluttered closed fairly quickly, exhausted from all the weeping. Mina noticed that she was unconsciously nipping at the tip of her thumb; a nervous habit of hers that only appeared when she was extremely distressed. Mina sighed. She hoped Sana would be feeling better tomorrow. She nuzzled into Sana’s hair, whispering a final ‘I love you’ before drifting off into sleep herself.
