Work Text:
It was a long journey for Din to find work on another planet. You could hear him silently curse to himself every time he’d enter the Razor Crest empty-handed, then he would have to repeat the process: locate a planet, land there, aimlessly trying to find work. Most of the time he was successful however for the past week, he kept coming back empty-handed. So now he was on the search for another planet he heard had offered good work.
Being out in space made it hard for you to know when “night” was, but you always knew when to begin winding down when Grogu would start to yawn and reach out for you to snuggle into your arms to get as close to you as possible. He made himself comfortable in the crook of your right arm and you smiled down on him beginning to gently rock him, making it easier for him to fall asleep. In the process of doing so, you unknowingly started to cause yourself to drift off into unconsciousness. Grogu was already asleep by the time you had fallen asleep, keeping him close in your arms on the floor of the cockpit just out of Din’s peripheral vision.
Some time had passed until you felt the weight of Grogu being lifted up and out of your arms. The months spent making sure no harm would come to the child caused you to instinctively tighten your grip on him without even opening your eyes. You didn’t stop until the sound of Din’s soft chuckle filled your ears, followed by “it’s okay, I’m putting him in the hammock.” Hearing that your grip loosened, arms plopping down in your lap content with continuing your slumber in that position. The sound of the door to the rest area opening and Din’s footsteps making their way over to you where all you heard before you felt the Mandalorian’s arms slide under and lift you up from your spot. Without thinking, you wrapped your arms around his neck, careful to not hit his helmet in the process.
Making your way down the ladder was a bit troublesome, but Din managed to keep you both from falling down. Instead, you both made it down safely and quietly. It seemed almost routine for him to do this type of thing despite never doing it before yet you trusted him enough to not drop you or accidentally have your body hit something. He took a few more steps and settled you down onto the small comforter within the rest area to which you finally had opened up your eyes and made yourself comfortable on your side expecting Din to join you and rest for a bit. He looked as if he was going to retreat back into the cockpit and back to work until you stuck your hand out beckoning him in and he began climbing in with you. The both of you rarely slept at the same time in the confined space yet your bodies still fit right next to each other like two pieces of a puzzle. Din closed the door and submerged both of you and Grogu into the dark. You felt him settle back down next to you and then carefully take off his helmet and set it someplace behind your head then you hard the leather of his gloves slide off his hands, those too were placed behind your head. Neither of you could see any part of each other, yet Din knew exactly where to place his now bare hands and guide your foreheads to meet each other. His hands were soft and gentle not as rough you thought thanks to the protection from the gloves he wears every day. Everything went still for a few seconds you laid there with a smile on your face and without thinking your hand made its way to the side of his face, thumb rubbing across his cheek. “Pretty,” you softly said, mostly to yourself. Din quietly laughed responding with “you’ve never seen my face though.”
“I don’t need to see it to know,” you spoke a little louder than before, closing your eyes once more feeling sleep start to tug on your mind. Din pressed a kiss to your lips, followed by many more peppered all over your face until he stopped at the forehead and simply stated, “goodnight.” You both fell asleep in each other’s arms with Grogu in his hammock hanging just above your feet.
