Work Text:
There are certain things that make you grateful for each day. Most notable on the list is Choi San. Some days were bad for you mentally, and somehow San just seems to know, even when you haven’t seen each other in days or longer because of your schedules. Today was a terrible wreck at work and honestly, you just wanted to cry. But you find that wont' be the case, although it's no real surprise when you get out of your car and start up the stairs to your apartment to find the lights on inside and laughter floating through the door. Shaking your head as you unlock the door and step inside, the three men sitting on the sectional pause in their antics to look up. Seeing San is not a surprise, but it is odd that Wooyoung and Yeosang are with him as well. None of their hair is styled at the moment, but the fact that they’re sitting in the order of hair color - San’s blonde, then Yeosang’s brunette and Wooyoung’s black - doesn’t get passed you, and you manage a little smile at the sight. You glance at the tv, only to roll you eyes when you realize why San brought the boyfriends over.
Mario Kart. Hard to play it solo, but even then, the members are always welcome at your apartment.
"It's nice to see your key works." You manage to snark at San as you walk over to set your purse down and hang the keys on the hook by the door.
"I would hope so, beautiful. You did give it to me." San answers with a smile, setting his controller down and moving to get up, ruffling Wooyoung’s hair and causing the younger male to squeal and reach up to fix it. Yeosang chuckles and pets his boyfriend’s hair as San comes to join you in the small kitchen where you’re working on pouring a glass of water. “What’s wrong?”
“Why would anything be wrong?” you ask, setting the gallon of water back into the fridge that is getting barer the closer it gets to payday.
“Y/N, this is me you’re talking to.” San replies, crossing his arms and leaning back on the stove. “I can tell when something is wrong.”
It’s hard to try and keep things from San, he’s always so gentle and caring. Even when the comeback schedules have him taken away from you for weeks at a time, he sends texts and leaves little voice messages to check up on you and remind you to 'keep fighting'. He knows how you take your coffee, and often has it sent to you when he knows you’re up. Your little collections has grown rapidly since you and San began dating, the man always buying new ones he or the other members find and leaving them in places for you to find when you have to be apart. This time is no different. Setting your cup down, you give a sigh. “It was just a really bad day. I don’t know why.” You hear the hummed response, one hand running through your hair, when suddenly there are arms around your waist and San’s chin is on your shoulder.
“Have you been sleeping?” he asks.
“I mean...yeah? Sort of?”
“How long have you been able to sleep?”
“Uhm...four...five? Like five hours.”
“You’re getting low on food again, have you been skipping meals?”
“I mean...no?” You half-lie, and close your eyes as you feel San nuzzle your neck. It’s a series of questions San asks when he wants to help, but sometimes it hurts to come to realize that there are basic things you haven’t been doing. It makes you feel like he deserves better. “It’s just another few days, San. I’ll be alright.”
“Skipping meals is bad for you, though, angel.” San murmurs, letting his arms tighten a little around your waist. “You know that I can bring you food, right? We don’t have a budget, and it’s not like it really bothers any of us.”
“You shouldn’t have to, though. You already have the comeback and everything going on, you shouldn’t have to worry about me on top of all that.”
“You know, I worry about you regardless. Especially during times like now, when we can’t see each other for long periods of time. I worry because I love you, silly.” San explains, and your face heats up at the words as he places a kiss to your temple. “Yeo, Woo and I can order food and stuff and hang out with you. They’ll probably go back to the dorms in the next hour or so, we have filming tomorrow afternoon.”
“And what about you?”
“Well obviously, I’m going to spend the night with you, angel.” You can hear the smile on San’s face and you turn in his arms to seal your lips against his, your own arms wrapping at his neck as he holds you closer.
“You two know there’s a bedroom, right?” The sudden sound of Yeosang’s voice makes you jump, and you can’t help but laugh as you tuck your head into San’s neck.
“Sorry, Yeo. It’s just been a long day.”
“We figured. When San said you were only sending one word replies, he and Wooyoung decided we needed to come hang out. We didn’t want to overwhelm you, though, so it’s just the three of us.” He moved around to snag a can of soda from the fridge. “But seriously, if you two aren’t going to come play with us, We’ll just hijack the game completely.”
“Is that a challenge, Kang Yeosang?” You ask, arching a brow with a grin. “Because last I checked, you’ve never beat me at Mario Kart.”
“If it is, will you two stop making out in the kitchen and come play the damn game?” Yeosang asked with a smirk of his own as he opened the soda and took a drink.
You look up at San, who is chuckling at the exchange before he lets you go. “You two go ahead, I’m gonna order some pizza.” he assured, nudging you towards Yeosang, who reaches to take your hand and lead you back to the couch. You end up with Wooyoung between the two of you, setting up the game and arguing with Wooyoung over who gets to play as Yoshi.
“I always play Yoshi!” Wooyoung pouts.
“It’s my console, Woo.” Your retort, pouting back. “You can play as Yoshi next round. You play as Toad this time.”
“Why don’t you play as Toad? Or Daisy?” Wooyoung counters.
“Flip a coin and stop whining.” Yeosang as he leans back, controller in his lap as he watches the two of you. Dark eyes glance over as San moves back into the living area, and he chuckles. “They’re at it again.”
“So I heard.” San answers, holding up a coin. “Wooyoung, call it.”
“Tails!” Wooyoung answers as San tosses the coin, and when it lands on the carpet, Wooyoung hops up to go see before huffing. “You get Yoshi, Y/N.”
A grin curves your lips as you select the character. “I’ll let you play him next round.”
Wooyoung looks between you, San and Yeosang. “Are we staying that long?”
“Only if you hurry up and get over here.” San answers, and you can’t help but laugh as Wooyoung practically launches himself to sit with his legs across Yeosang’s lap and the four of you begin playing. You don’t know how time suddenly slips by, but the four of you are in the fifth race when there’s a knock on the door and San stands to get the food, bringing back four boxes of food and a two liter. “Dinner is served.” He announces, going to get plates and set them on the coffee table for everyone to get food. As everyone gets food and settles back in, you can’t help but take a moment to just soak in the moment.
Yes, there are things you are grateful for.
Wooyoung’s laughter, Yeosang’s sass, banter over who’s cheating when you’re really just playing the game, food and drinks and fun with the people who have become like family. But there is one thing your most grateful for, and you can’t help the way you smile as you rest your head on his shoulder.
The one thing you are most grateful for in all the world is San’s love.
