Work Text:
Armin wakes to the sound of rain softly pattering against the windows, an arm curled around his waist, and a finger tracing gently along his cheek. He doesn’t open his eyes, just tugs the heavy comforter snugger around his shoulders and buries his head deeper into Eren’s chest with a smile.
This is what heaven must feel like, Armin thinks fondly as Eren presses his soft lips to his temple, marking his skin with a tiny kiss. Warmth rises and spreads throughout Armin’s chest.
“Morning, love,” Eren whispers against his skin. His voice is hoarse, as it always is when he wakes up. Armin’s lips curl into a smile.
“Morning,” mutters Armin, voice thick with the same sleepy rasp. He burrows his head further into Eren’s chest, his eyelashes tickling the base of Eren’s neck.
“Did you sleep well?” Eren asks, propping his chin on the top of Armin’s head and threading his fingers through Armin’s mussed hair. Armin sighs contentedly and nods.
“Mm,” he says. He pulls away from Eren’s chest and gazes at his boyfriend through a thin coat of blonde lashes. “I did. What about you?”
“Of course I slept well,” mumbles Eren. “I sleep beside you for a reason, don’t I?”
Armin smiles and tucks a strand of brunette hair behind Eren’s hair, before leaning in and kissing Eren gently. Their lips melt together like warm butter, and Armin feels Eren smile as their noses brush together.
“You’re always so beautiful,” Eren says, slowly pulling away from the kiss. His lips travel all around Armin’s blushing face, peppering tiny kisses to the tip of his nose, the curve of his jaw, and to his cheek.
“Even when I’ve just woken up, all messy and groggy?”
Eren gingerly cups Armin’s cheek in his hand and kisses him again. “Especially then,” he murmurs against Armin’s lips. He gazes at his boyfriend lovingly as he says, “You’re beautiful all the time. Always will be, doesn’t matter about the situation.”
Armin blushes as he gives a small laugh. He closes his eyes as he drops his head against the sturdiness of his boyfriend’s broad chest, his arms hugging Eren and his cheek resting on top of his thrumming heart. He lodges one of his thighs in the middle of Eren’s own thighs. A serene sigh leaves his lips.
Eren cradles the back of Armin’s head with his hand and curls his arm loosely around his back. Outside, the rain continues falling from the early morning clouds and quietly rapping against the roof and windows. Thunder roars in the sky and an icy gust sweeps through the land, and Armin’s thankful that he’s wrapped in bed with a thick comforter and thin throw blanket over top, safely enclosed in the arms of his lover.
“You know,” Eren says after a long moment passes, “We gotta get up at some point.”
Armin shakes his head and hugs Eren tighter. “No,” he says promptly. “The day can wait. ‘M too comfy to get up.”
Eren snorts and plants one last kiss to the crown of Armin’s head. “Alright, my love. We can lie here for a little longer.”
As they lie there together, they occasionally stir to steal a slow and lazy kiss from each other’s lips, but once they finally rise from the plush bundle of blankets and warmth, the rain’s stopped and the afternoon’s steadily crept up on them.
They both eagerly await the next morning, where they can do it all over again.
