A small smile appeared on his puckered lips everytime he typed. All the greetings, the sweet wishes, warmed his heart, he's just a sucker for lovely words.
He didn't hear the knock on the first time, Rocketeer blasting from his mini speaker overpowered it.
"Lix, are you there?"
Hyunjin was standing in front of his door with what looked like a big frame, covered in white wrapper. Felix couldn't help but to blink confusedly. The taller handed the package to him, and he was completely lost.
"It's for you."
Felix sported one of Hyunjin's signature smile when he couldn't handle a compliment. Bashful, yet something about tonight made him looked a little less self-conscious.
"It's for me?"
"Yeah," he chuckled and there was a hint of nervousness Felix rarely heard.
Hyunjin was red. It reminded Felix of their dokkaebi outfit for Thunderous stage. From the tip of his ear, the sunset on his cheeks, even some shade along his long neck.
As if it was out of instinct, Felix took the other's hand on his, caressing it slightly. He dragged the poor boy and they both sat at the edge of Felix's bed.
"Can I open it?" The blond never realized his own voice was so soft, almost resembled a faint whisper.
"Of course," his eyes couldn't stop themselves from spotting how fidgety the taller was as he kept moving his feet, swinging it back and forth.
Maybe it was the way Hyunjin let a crevice of himself being seen by Felix, maybe because it was midnight and it was his birthday, as one of his own hand refused to let go of Hyunjin's, and finally the picture came before his eyes, a painting of them holding a daisy, as Hyunjin's honey voice entered his eardrums, "do you like it?" with a glass-like texture Felix had never been this afraid to even lay a hand on it.
Hyunjin's thumbs caressed his little one with a fleeting yet lingering movement, and it was Felix's turn to be burned by the infectious wildfire.
"It's so beautiful, Hyunjin,"
My feelings for you. Your feelings for me.
Felix wondered if all of his unsolved riddles were carelessly spilled the moment he put his courage to stare carefully at Hyunjin's eyes.
"I'm glad,"
Hyunjin is beautiful. But with that glimmer on his crinkled face, reserved only for Felix's eyes tonight, the blond refused to put a name to the blooming cloud inside his chest.
"Good night, Lix,"
Was it the disappointment he felt when he saw Hyunjin slightly patted his thigh and started walking to the door?
Why did he feel empty when the other's thumb was no longer perched upon his own?
On Hyunjin's back he saw all the nights Hyunjin locked himself in his room. Felix remembered the panicked expression on his face when the blond barged in one evening, but he just shrugged it off.
On Hyunjin's back he saw how he squinted his eyes back and forth, from the screen to the canvas, forming his own version of them, along with the lovely daisy.
It was the moment he spotted a splattered paint on the taller's right temple when he was about to close the door, his mouth worked faster than his sanity.
"Could you stay with me?"
Felix was utterly helpless.
Hyunjin turned on his heels so fast, it almost made Felix chuckled. Maybe he wasn't the only one being too absorbed in this thrilling excitement.
"Huh?"
"Come," Felix could only patted the vacant side on his left because, heck, he too, was still half-processing why he even said that.
He moved to his table, holding the painting and placing it painstakingly slow like the most expensive vase on their household.
He sighed when he noticed Hyunjin sprawling his whole body like the giant that he was, leaving him no space on the already small-framed bed.
"Move," he demanded while crossing his arms in annoyance.
"You'll be laying here too?"
Felix couldn't stop himself from biting his lips, tilting his head, because Hyunjin's question was plain ridiculous.
"You acted like this is the first time we cuddle?"
"It feels different,"
Hyunjin's simple and brief answer caught him off-guard and he didn't like the sensation at all.
As if he was insensitive enough not to notice the thick air and sudden summer fever between them.
They laid like that, facing each other, and even when they knew privacy was a scarcity throughout their entire life, both couldn't deny how their mingled breathing, the rose and the fell of their chests, their ever-touching feet were a whole new kind of intimacy compared to all the stunts they've pulled in the past.
It took one push for them to finally connecting their lips.
But as much as Felix wanted to, Hyunjin would never put himself before others, and it was the trait that felt too bittersweet for this pair of lost, lonely souls.
So Felix let himself being carried away a little too past the yellow danger sign he put around himself and the one before his eyes.
Because it was midnight, his birthday was almost over, but Hyunjin crafted a long-lasting warmth on his yearning heart.
He didn't imagine himself hearing a heavenly sigh escaped Hyunjin's lips when their forehead came in contact.
It was simple, it was sincere, it was all he could muster.
"Where do we go from here?"
They both knew it was a rhetorical question. Instead of answering, Hyunjin pulled Felix to his chest, so close, so tight.
I hope this warmth always reaches you.
