The Professor's Son

Summary:

Professor Yana wasn't exactly expecting a child to appear from nowhere, literally, but at least he's cute.

Work Text:

At two years old, Harry Potter, known simply as 'Freak' was very much hated by his relatives.

They'd had him for nine months or thereabouts by the time his birthday rolled around and had decided to celebrate by leaving him in the cupboard alone while they went out.

Magic, which was somewhat sentient saw the cruelty and decided to send him off to a place he could call his home.

Of course, Magic had no idea what this thing known as 'time' was.

And so, Harry Potter ended up at the end of the Universe.

The Professor's Son

Professor Yana had seen a lot of things in his life, but a toddler appearing from thin air was definitely a new one.

The boy was obviously mistreated from the looks of it, and he frowned, crouching down so the boy could see him easier, he spoke, "hello, who are you?"

The boy blinked at him with curious green eyes, "Freak."

The Professor blinked blankly down at him before scowling, smoothing his face out quickly when he saw the child flinch, "your caretakers obviously weren't suitable," he hummed, before scooping him up, causing him to squeak in surprise and grab his sleeve, "how about, hmm, Harry used to be a pretty classic name," he looked at the boy who was looking at him with wide eyes, "yes, I think you shall be Harry now."

The Professor's Son

At the age of five, Harry Yana was a very quick learner, sure he might not understand everything that he was taught yet, but he could certainly put the skills into practice if needed.

He liked to help his Dad as he worked, keeping mostly out of the way unless specifically told to do something because even he knew that his work was very important.

If it worked then humankind would live on in Utopia.

Harry had heard the stories about Utopia like any other child, about how the sky was made of diamonds and food was never scarce.

"Harry, could you hold this down for me?" his Dad called.

He quickly scampered over, holding down the pink button as his Dad messed with some wires.

The Professor's Son

A ten-year-old Harry peered over a desk that he was carefully inspecting as his dad dragged a stranger in, followed closely by two others.

"Chan welcome tho," he heard Chantho greet him.

"Who are these people, Dad?" he asked.

Professor Yana looked over at him, as did the other three people, "a scientist, Harry," he pushed the tall man wearing a swishy coat in front of him, then gestured at the other two, "and his friends."

Harry perked up and stared at the man wearing the coat with wide eyes, quickly detangling his hands from the wires he'd been checking then hopping off of his chair and up to the man.

"You're a scientist?" he breathed, "that's so cool!"

The man coughed awkwardly, and his Dad smiled at him and ruffled his hair, "could you double-check the gravitissimal accelerator for me? I'm-"

"Worried that it'll give out any day now, I know Dad, I'll get on it," he grinned as the man gently smacked his head.

Giggling, he walked over to the piece of equipment he'd been tasked with checking, grabbing the toolbox that had been left next to it to get to work.

"Isn't he a bit young to be working with stuff like this?" he heard the lady ask.

Professor Yana waved his hand, "Harry's a smart boy, knows what he's doing, far more knowledgeable than any other child you'll find here, that's for sure."

"That's because they only get taught the basics, Dad," Harry butted in, "they just need to know enough to survive, they don't need quantum mechanics, physics, or stage seven mathematics to help them in their lives."

His Dad just hummed and went on showing the man around the lab.

From his listening he learnt that the scientist was called the Doctor, the other man was called Captain Jack Harkness, and the lady was called Martha.

The Professor's Son

"So, are you excited to go to Utopia?" Martha asked Harry as she slid up to his side.

Frowning at something on the screen, he answered her, "I'm not going."

She blinked, "why not?"

He sighed and turned away from the screen, instead he stared up at the ceiling which was also covered in wires.

"Dad can't go, he needs to keep everything stable, I know he wants me to go, the possibility of there being a life for me away from here is something he really wishes for me, but," he sighed again, "I don't want to leave him, I'm only ten and he's my Dad, I don't know many other people around here, and the ones I do, well, they don't particularly care about me, not that I'm surprised, no-one cares for anyone but themselves and their families."

Martha frowned, "I'm sorry."

"Don't be," he grinned at her, "it's my choice, Dad doesn't like it much, but he understands," he frowned slightly, "Chantho's also staying, she's alright, but she's got a massive crush on my Dad and that's weird," he looked over at Chantho who was in earshot of their conversation, "no offence Chantho."

"Chan none taken tho," she spoke while blushing.

Martha chuckled.

Harry didn't understand what was going on, one minute his Dad was fine, the next Martha said something and left, then his Dad was in a trance staring at a watch, the next...

Chantho was dead on the floor, there was a manic look in his eyes as he grabbed Harry by the arm and dragged him into the Doctor's blue box.

Once inside he let go and started muttering to himself, and Harry backed himself up against the wall, curling his legs so his knees touched his chest.

He pressed some things on what reminded him of the main console that controlled all of the separate machines they built and operated to get the rocket working, but fancier, and the door shut firmly.

A bright light emitted from him, and Harry had to look away, and when it died down, a different man stood where his Dad once had.

He looked over at Harry and grinned manically.

"I expected the parental feelings to go away once I released the Chameleon Arch," he stated, walking towards him.

Harry ducked his head, trying his best to get away with nowhere to run, the man frowned slightly but didn't falter in his steps.

"But if anything, they've grown stronger," he stopped in front of him and crouched down, grabbing his shoulders, "look at me."

Harry warily peered up at him, and the Master noted fear in his eyes.

"I'm still me, I'm still your Dad, I still taught you how to work out basic formulas for rocket fuel," he stared directly into his eyes, "I'm just better."

The Professor's Son

The TARDIS landed in Cardiff, 2006, and the Master grabbed hold of Harry's hand.

He'd never seen a lot of the things he was about to witness, and it would likely overwhelm him.

He was right of course, as he looked around and saw bustling streets filled with hundreds of people, soft green grass and bright trees.

"What's that?" he asked, pointing at a duck in the nearby fountain.

"That's a duck, Harry, it's a type of bird."

The boy's eyes went wide, "a bird?"

He nodded and the boy continued to stare at it, most animals had gone extinct by the end of the Universe, the only ones that remained were cattle, but even those had been shrinking in population quickly.

Harry had obviously been taught about some of these animals, but not many, as there'd been no point, seeing as he wouldn't have ever seen them, but now...

The Master spent the day walking around Cardiff with him, pointing out all the different things he'd never seen before, and when night fell, Harry looked up at the sky and saw stars for the first time.

"The sky really is made of diamonds," he muttered.

And the Master supposed that it was true, and thinking about it, it was highly likely that the stars were behind the rumour in the first place.

Perhaps he had found his little Utopia.

Notes:

Despite no longer being at the end of the Universe with the Master taking on other names, Harry still goes by 'Harry Yana', and the first time Harry sees a domestic cat he 100% cries because it's so small and fluffy. (They later get a cat.)
