It felt like the words were sitting atop a coiled spring beneath Shepard's tongue, ready to pop out at the slightest provocation. He paced the tight confines of the shuttle with stiff strides. James and Garrus kept their feet tucked tight to their seats for fear of being trampled. Every creak of armour seemed amplified in the silence that hung heavy in the recycled air. Finally Shepard strode into the cockpit, and slammed his fist against the sensor to close the hatch behind him.
"Damnit Cortez, what the hell were you thinking?" What he really meant was "you scared me."
