Work Text:
Dancing on The Ribbon until she reached the end. That was her goal. Nobody knows how long The Ribbon goes, and by nobody - I mean Vibri. She was all alone in this strange broken void. Nobody else to talk to, just created to dance across The Ribbon for all eternity just to find out what lies at the end. Currently, she's walking across a relatively flat area, with fewer obstacles than usual. Which was nice, she almost never stopped moving so now would be a nice time to recompose herself and get ready to get a move on once again. She stops and leans her back on the only block within sight and takes a deep breath.
"Do you ever feel lonely out here block?" The block doesn't answer.
"There's no one else like you out here, is there?" The block just stays there in the ground. Uncontemplating and unchanging.
"Do you ever wonder why this universe was created? Why some of us are created to never fulfil our purposes? I was only created to reach the end of the ribbon but no one knows if it exists. Infinite can't exist though, no matter what plane of existence you're on. Even a circle, the image of what infinite is, is created somewhere and ends somewhere. There's the saying that 'Life is fleeting but death is eternal' but there's also the saying 'Nothing is eternal.'"
The cube is still stuck in the ground as a part of The Ribbon. Vibri thinks for a moment, was she really talking to a cube?
"Sometimes I think about how time is eternal yet will come to an end. Time can be constructed like a circle being drawn, it still begins somewhere but once the ends are connected it's infinite. I wonder, does time infinitely loop? What loop are we on? How long will time loop? Can time really loop infinitely? Nothing can be truly infinite right?"
The cube lays there, unmoving, unwavering. Such as the way of the cube. It doesn't agree nor disagree with Vibri's words, it only exists just as this universe exists. The universe exists and was created in a way that nobody will ever understand or comprehend. They all say that the big bang is what started it all, but how can the big bang come as it is if there was nothing? The laws of physics could have been created in strange ways such as reverse gravity or light being slow but here we are. We have been created over trillions of years of the existence of the universe and here we are, reading fanfics about a rabbit having an existential crisis.
"I wonder if there is anybody else out in this world. I've only ever known myself for as long as I've lived. Can the concept of infinity even exist? No matter how long the universe expands it will never be infinite. What exists outside of the universe? Can the great beyond be infinite? What's outside of that? There can't be infinite universes can there? As this universe expands we slowly inch closer to the end, once the universe gains too much mass everything will implode in on itself and reverse the big bang. Who knows? The universe could be collapsing in on itself right now and we'll never know until it hits us, literally."
The cube, a simple shape, so simple yet so complex and perfect. All sides are at perfect lengths and all angles must perfectly correspond. The simple part comes in when you realize that cubes can't think.
"I guess I should get going again. Maybe the end of the ribbon will have all of the answers to everything. But until then, we'll never know. And if it does exist, and I never make it, it will be better to learn it all while I'm still dancing."
Vibri got up and did a few warm-up stretches, faint music noises can be heard and started to speed up. She jumps and leaps away. She will never see that cube again.
