He abruptly stopped his movements as soon as he sensed it.
The moment Wu Xie stumbled into the engulfing darkness.
The moment Wu Xie's beloved body started falling down into nothingness.
Wu Xie's few remaining breaths.
The warmest fire, the most precious flame, was about to be extinguished.
He froze and the air abandoned his lungs.
A strangled scream threatened to cut his throat.
A disturbance in water, and then, silence.
Still, dead silence.
Pure, suffocating darkness.
A cold shudder ran through his body and deprived him from the remaining warmth.
Was that it?
Had the world lost Wu Xie?
Doubt crept over him.
His lower lip quivered imperceptibly, a hole imploded in his chest.
Had the world lost Wu Xie?
Agony threatened to drown him.
Had the world lost Wu Xie?
Would there even be a world without Wu Xie?
There had been something akin to it before.
But, afterwards?
Nothing.
He had nothing. He felt nothing.
Agony drowned him.
Nothing.
Nothing existed after Wu Xie.
Why hadn't he been there with Wu Xie? Closer, to Wu Xie?
Why had he left Wu Xie?
Regret clawed against his ribs.
Self-loathing butchered his guts.
His face twisted with soundless, excruciating pain.
What had been more important than Wu Xie?
What dared he consider more important than Wu Xie?
Denial. Duty. Abnegation.
Worthless.
Meaningless.
A world without Wu Xie...
He didn’t want to.
He didn't want to be a part of it.
He wanted to be a part of Wu Xie.
Please, please, let him be a part of Wu Xie.
Please, please, don’t let Wu Xie go.
Let Wu Xie stay.
Someone.
Something.
Anything.
Wu Xie.
His mind expanded; called out, reached out, desperate to be heard.
And then, he felt it.
He felt it when Wu Xie answered back with his fists thrashing against the golden water, breaking through.
He tried to stand his ground.
Caution.
He was able to breathe again.
He could see again.
He could feel again.
A tear ran down his face.
He turned his whole body into that direction.
Wu Xie.
Another forever grateful tear fell silently from his eye, shrouded in the darkness of his hood.
Focus.
He fought off the urgency of dashing towards Wu Xie.
Wu Xie.
The world had refused to lose Wu Xie.
He hadn't lost Wu Xie.
He still had Wu Xie.
Wu Xie was still alive.
He was still alive.
He would still be able to see Wu Xie.
Ever-loving sacred Wu Xie.
Love. More than love.
Everything, forever, Wu Xie.
