Work Text:
Kara Zor-el was born with marks on each wrist one saying 'platonic' and the other saying 'romantic'. Her parents, Zor-el and Alura, were confused by this. And they were even more confused when Kal-el had them too.
*IN THE PHANTOM ZONE*
Kara slowly blinked her eyes open from what was probably a long sleep. When she woke she notice the platonic mark now had a black teddy bear on it. After another long sleep, she woke to a yellow blanket under the romantic mark. The platonic mark had changed to a dragon and two kids saying "Dragon Tales". Kara stayed in the phantom zone for 10 more years since the last time she woke.
*ON EARTH*
Kara was met with a man with the House of El symbol on his chest pulling open her pod. Kal-El. He introduced her to Eliza and Jerimiah Danvers and was off into the sky. Kara was confused for a while as to why her cousin wouldn't keep her or see her. She fought with the Danvers daughter, Alex, a lot. And even more once Alex's father was declared dead. She made a friend, he died. They found his killer but Kenny wasn't coming back. They went to his funeral, she cried. Alex held her. Her and Alex started to bond and really become sisters.
Then Alex left for a univerity in Seattle to study medicine and become a doctor. Alex would get very stressed during her in Seattle and would get drunk, a lot. Sometime Kara would listen in to see how her sister was so far away. Sometime she would fly to pick up Alex when she would hear her at clubs. But she was late sometimes or flew to the wrong place.
One night she flew to a very wrong place. A dorm room at a boarding school in Ireland. Kara wasn't going to see Alex that night, she just wanted to get her mind off somethings. When she got to Earth found out the marks on her wrist were soul marks or soulmate marks. Eventully her and Alex realized they were each other's platonic soulmates. Kara still hadn't found her romantic soulmate, Alex hadn't either but she wasn't looking. Kara was. Kara had lost track of how she got into this room. She was cuaght off guard when a ravenette with green eyes walked in while Kara floated ever so slightly off the ground. Kara knew that she liked girls, guys, and everything in between and outside the box. On Krypton sexuality didn't matter but things were different here, it was weird.
"Who are you and what are you doing in my dorm" The green eyed girl said holding a knife she had picked up from the counter.
"I don't know, I was just flying and ended up here" Kara slammed her hand over her mouth realizing what she had just said.
"Did you just say flying?" The girl questioned
"ummm n-no" Kara quickly stuttered out.
"Yes you did I heard you loud and clear!" The girl exclaimed.
"OK Galliotmaybe I d id but please don't tell anyone" Kara hoped she wouldn't, the girl looked nice. Kara thinks she could trust her.
"I promise I won't, I'm Lena"
"Kara, Kara Danvers"
"Nice to meet you, Kara" Lena said.
From that day on every weekend when she would get Alex take her home and wait with her 'till she passed out, she'd head to the boarding school Lena attended. The longer she knew Lena the stronger their bond became. Kara had even started teaching Lena kryptonese, and Lena would teach her Irish in return.
This continued for another year until it happened, the war between Lex Luthor and Superman. Kara was torn, she knew Clark would be mad if he ever found out about her friendship with the younger Luthor, but what did Clark's opinion matter he was never there so why should she care. And she trusted Lena, Lena hadn't done anything bad.
Though as months carried on Lena hung out with Kara less and less. Kara figured she was just busy, She was about to go to college, plus there were Lex's trials. Kara believed this until one day Lena just stopped all communication.
For days all Kara did was cry, she had lost one of her only true friends. Neither Alex nor Eliza knew what was wrong. Eliza worked nights and Alex was always dead sleep when she'd see Lena. They even tried to convince Clark to come over, maybe it was a Kryptonian thing, but of course he was to busy to do so.
Years past...
Kara started working for CatCo. Lex Luthor was arrested. It was announced to the public that his sister would take over the company. This was Kara's chance to finally see Lena again. She still hung onto their friendship, even after so many years. Kara working at CatCo was all because of one comment Lena made when they first became friends. "You'd make a great reporter one day"
The day finally came where they'd meet again. The helicopter was being shot at. Kara knew she'd do anything to save Lena, and she did. Of course Lena knew Kara was SuperGirl but in the monument she was to flustered to get any words out. Lex had just tried to kill her.
Cat had faith in Kara, even if she was new to reporting, and put her on the Luthor case. Her job was to right an article on Lena Luthor's life and why she moved to National City.
Few days later...
Kara stood outside of L-corp paces, she was about to see her, well she didn't know what to call them so her Lena I suppose. She walked through the door and to the receptionist desk.
"Miss Luthor, a CatCo reporter is here to see you" Jess spoke through the intercom.
"Tell them I'm busy and to come back another time"
"I'm sorry but Miss Luthor can't speak at the moment" Jess spoke to Kara
"Could you tell her it's Kara Danvers"
"Sure" Jess replied slightly annoyed by the reporters insistence.
"She says her name is Kara Dan-"
"Send her in, please"
Jess opened the door to Lena's office to let Kara in.
"Hello Miss Danvers, what can I do for you?"
"Please Lena, you can still call me Kara"
"I'm sorry but this is supposed to be an interview, correct?"
"Well yes but-"
"This is not a personal matter, so please ask me what information you need and leave"
"Come on, can I at least have lunch with you tomorrow to talk about us?"
"Fine, but on with the interview"
Few hours later...
Kara really should get to bed but she needed to find the perfect outfit for lunch with Lena, tomorrow.
"Okay this should do"
The next day...
"Miss Danvers is here"
"Let her in."
"Hi, Lena!"
"Hello, Miss Danvers"
"This is a personal matter, you can call me kara"
"Okay, Hi Kara, better?"
"Perfect"
"So what do you need to know?"
"Why'd you start ignoring me?"
Lena really didn't feel like telling kara why but maybe if she did she could finally have some peace.
"I was afraid, okay."
"But why, it was just me Kara"
"That the problem, you. Your Kara optimism. You still believed in me when my brother was trying to kill your only living relative. I was getting to close to you, feelings aren't my strong suit. And you make me weak"
"Lena, you make me weak too. I've loved you since we were teens and I still do." Kara say looking Lena straight in the eye, unsure.
"You love me?" Lena ask lip quivering.
"Yes, I Kara Zor-El have loved Lena Luthor for years"
Lena chuckles "I Lena Luthor have loved Kara Dan- Zor-El for years too."
“Kara?” Lena ask slightly confused
“Yes?”
“What’s your favorite thing, right now?”
“Obviously you, silly!” Kara replies jokingly
“That explains why my face is on my own wrist.”
