Out of the Oven

Summary:

"Maybe your soulmate has two distinct attributes, and the symbols indicate both," Gingerbrave suggested when he caught Herb staring at the back of his hands, "It's not common but not impossible."

Strawberry Cookie thought a little bit differently. "What if he's one of the rare ones, who has two soulmates."

Herb Cookie tilted his head. "Two soulmates?"

Notes:

Written for Polyshipping Week 2022, prompt "Soulmates"

Work Text:

Every cookie comes out of the oven with a mark indicating a distinct attribute of their soulmate, on the back of the hand. So why did Herb Cookie have two? He had one on each hand: a mandolin on his left and a cocktail shaker on his right.

Herb Cookie tilted his head slightly. "Two soulmates?"

Strawberry Cookie nodded. "It's rare, rarer than one soulmate with two symbols, and hasn't happened in quite some time. I heard the cookies that saved the kingdom long ago were all each other's soulmates. Multiple symbols on each hand. So, having one on each hand could happen."

Herb Cookie simply nodded. It could happen, yeah. He guessed.

The thought consumed him until one day, he was getting lunch with his two best friends and the back of Clover Cookie's hand caught his eye. The same cocktail shaker he had. "Hey, Clover Cookie... can I see your hands?"

Clover tilted his head and shrugged, figuring it couldn't hurt too much to show them. "It's kinda weird though, because I have two marks."

Herb Cookie's heart leapt into his throat, since the other mark was a potted plant. "Wait wait wait. Sparkling Cookie, what about you?"

"I also have two marks, it's so strange," and his were the potted plant that Clover Cookie had, and the mandolin that Herb Cookie had.

"Wait," and Herb Cookie showed his off. "A mandolin on two of us — Clover Cookie, a cocktail shaker on two of us — Sparkling Cookie, and a potted plant on two of us — me. You don't think?"

"We're all meant to be soulmates as a triad?" Clover Cookie thought about it for a moment, "Well, if I had to choose two soulmates, it'd be you guys."

Sparkling Cookie nodded. "Yeah, same."

Harb Cookie had to agree.
