"Kazuha- Kazuha don't eat that!" Furusato wrestled with his friend, trying to keep the strange plant out of his grasp.
"Don't try to come between true love! You wouldn't understand how it feels!" Kaedehara cried, keeping a determined grip on the plant. He had been searching for it all day, not telling his best friend what it was that he was searching for, just that it was a "very delicious-looking plant."
Seeing the way Kaedehara's eyes lit up when they finally found the strange, fruit-looking plant was enough to bring a smile to Furusato's own face... until he saw what kind of fruit it truly was. Five points and a vibrant color, there's no way it was safe to eat.
"Give it here!" Furusato extended his arm as far as it could go, reaching for Kaedehara's tightly closed fists.
"No! You're just jealous cause there's only one." Kaedehara laughed, twisting around in Furusatos grasp, the two boys now full-on wrestling in the woods.
"No, I don't. Trust me, I don't want any part in your magical fruit adventures, but I won't have you eating something so obviously dangerous either- HEY!" Furusato yelped, immediately retracting his hand which had just been bitten by the wandering samurai. "Are you kidding?"
"A hundred percent serious!" Kaedehara laughed triumphantly, making his escape with the star-shaped fruit. He made his way through the trees, these woods he nearly knew by heart at this point, each creature and force of nature that resided there likely also knew Kaedehara by name; he was a frequent resident, a frequent friend.
"And just where do you think you're going?" A hand comes out from the left side of Kaedehara's field of vision, grabbing onto his scarf and yanking him sideways. Kaedehara wasted no time in attempting to struggle free again, but Furusato was tall enough to pick him off the ground like a mother cat would lift her kitten.
"Gimme half."
"Huh."
"You heard me, gimme half of the fruit."
"Oh~? Finally changed your mind, eh? I'm glad you've come around to see the appeal just as I have, dear Yugen."
"No-" Furusato dropped Kaedehara back onto his feet, "Look, there's no way in Tenshukaku I'm gonna be able to keep you from eating.. uh.. whatever that is, but if we eat it together, at least we'll both suffer together." Furusato explained his reasoning. The look in Kaedehara's eyes changed for a moment as he met his friend's gaze with his own. They shared a moment of silence until Kaedehara took a large bit of the apple-sized, star-shaped fruit, taking off a big chunk with it and he handed the other piece to Furusato who took it with a moment's hesitation.
"Itsh shweet." Kaedehara commented with his mouth full, chewing happily.
"Hmm.." Furusato eyed the fruit warily, looking between the oddly colored fruit and his friend who looked to be enjoying it so far, and if it were anyone he trusted to appraise fruit, it would be the certain connoisseur who stood before him.
Taking in a deep breath, Furusato took a rather large, fearless bite.
It was sweet. Really sweet. Then it was sour, almost too sour, but he pushed through the contradicting flavors anyway.
"There's no way you find this good."
"Oi! I shared my special fruit with you, so be a little more grateful." Kaedehara grumbled. "I wouldn't share it with just any old traveler, now."
"Yeah, I'm sure you wouldn't share at all if it wasn't for me." Furusato teased, sitting down against the trunk of a tree to rest.
"You know," Kaedehara sat down next to him, leaning his head on Furusato's shoulder as he usually did, "Giving someone food is a form of affection. We need food to survive, so giving someone something sweet is like saying; I want you to stay alive in the best way possible."
Furusato snorted, "Really now? Well maybe then I am a little more grateful you shared that with me."
"Good, and as payment for my services, you owe me something sweet next." Kaedehara demanded childishly.
"Alright, alright."
