Chapter Text
3rd Person POV
It is a warm and sunny day. The breeze is just enough to be relieving from the sunlight outside. Tree leaves are rustling, some fall down as others sprout into the vivid light of the sun. In the middle of the woods lies an old run-down shack. The evidence of life is minimal, it would be none barring the countless plants on the front porch. They are all bright and lively, signaling the presence of a person. If you are new to the Boiling Isles, you would think that the shack is forsaken, the liveliness of the plants only due to the mere coincidence of being in an already bustling forest. If you have lived in the Boiling Isles, you would know that this seemingly idle shack is home to the locally famous Y/N L/N, the sort of underground healer of the Boiling Isles. They get a fair amount of clients. Going to the healing coven is a great deal easier than coming to Y/N. Most everyday people fear retribution from visiting them. Others simply cannot afford the healing coven. Some get the privilege to choose. Others must visit the underground healer or risk a far larger array of issues. They just so happen to know how to bake. You can never pass up a danish or cobbler from Y/N.

Y/N POV
Your eyes flutter open. The sunlight is sifting through your curtains. You reluctantly toss your blanket off of you and sit up in your bed. This usually gives you time to ponder many things. Things like clients and what you want to bake next and projects you still need to finish. Mostly life decisions, you guess. After you have second-guessed all of your choices, you stand up and put on your clothes for the day. It was a tough choice, but you eventually settled on (outfit you like). You think your choice is wonderful.
You peacefully stroll out of your bedroom and to the kitchen. You rustle through your cabinets and find some croissants.
That'll have to do, you think. You cast a little fire under the croissant to make it a little warm, then sprinkle a little salt onto it. You eat the croissant. As you finish, you notice that your kitchen needs a little cleaning. You unenthusiastically began to tidy up, using magic to move plates to pots, annihilate the trash, wipe down the counters, etc. Normally, cleaning your kitchen is a rather time-consuming concept, but it has been significantly easier for you when you realized that you can use my magic to clean instead. Tiny little circles instead of having to take a chunk of considerable time out of your day to manually clean it up? Sounds like a deal that nobody could pass.
Once you are almost finished tidying up my kitchen and putting a new trash bag in your bin, you hear a knock on the door. you glance at my scroll to check the time. Surely you hadn't taken that long cleaning.
You hadn't. It was exactly 10 am. You are not open then. You are open from Noon until 5 pm.
You walk over and nonchalantly open the door.
If you had known who was behind that door, you would have been a hell of a lot more anxious.
This was no regular citizen. It was the Golden Guard. The Emporer's right-hand man. At your door.
Oh fucking shit in a goddamn bitch shack.
"Hello, I have been sent here to...ask you a few things." Golden Guard says. You internally freeze up. What the fuck am I supposed to say? Do?
"Am I allowed to ask what you need to ask me?" You regret the words as soon as they come out of my mouth. You must sound like a complete idiot. In front of the Golden Guard too.
"It is unwise to question what I need to do." Golden Guard replies. Rather than asking more questions, you just stay silent. You walk a little further inside and motion him to sit at your little table next to the door. He sits down, you sit down.
My plant is blocking his face when I sit here. Should I move it? You think.
If I don't he definitely will.
You silently get up, pick up your plant, and relocate it to your kitchen counter.
I don't like where that was anyways.
Almost as soon as you sit back down, Golden Guard begins asking questions.
Most of them are not important. Stuff like if you've paid taxes. Nothing to be exceptionally worried over.
Until he got to the last one.
"Have you been in contact with Eda the Owl Lady lately?" Golden Guard says. You can feel my stomach drop further than those carvinal rides from the human realm.
Well, you haven't really been in contact with Eda. Just a little thing that happened last week.

Flashback
You are peacefully baking muffins to sell soon as someone suddenly breaks through the door.
I'm going to have to make a new door now. Great.
You slowly rotate my head to view the thing that had just broken your door.
You see a tall woman with poofy white hair and a golden fang on her right side.
"Uh...hi," You say awkwardly.
"I'm sorry, I didn't think anyone lived here," She says, "I'm Eda Clawthorne."
Oh great the Owl Lady is in my house. I hope this doesn't make me wanted or something.
"Y/N L/N," You reply.
"I think I've heard of you before," Eda says.
"You may know me as the underground healer who also happens to be a really good baker," You tell her. Her face lights up
"Are you the one who made those cupcakes for the baker's coven last year?" She asks. You nod
You used to be in the baker's coven before you had decided to drop out of Hexide altogether. You used to study healing.
You invited the Owl Lady inside. Although she herself never told you, you figured that she was on the run from some of the Emporer's... henchmen.
As the day went on, you got to know the Owl Lady a bit more. She decided to stay there to make sure that she was safe for now. Eventually, nightfall came and she had to get going.
You never forgot how chaotic yet caring of a woman Eda is.

Y/N POV
"Have you been in contact with Eda the Owl Lady recently?" Golden Guard repeats. You realize that you didn't answer him before when he asked. You can feel my face go pink.
Do I tell the truth and throw her under the bus, or lie and risk getting myself into trouble?
Both are bad. But it's not like I can get out of this now.
"Yes, I was in contact with her a couple of weeks ago," You reply. You know it isn't the best thing to say, but what else could you say?
You thought that was the last question. Nope.
"Are you currently enrolled in school? If yes, which one?" Golden Guard asks.
"Uh-" You hesitate, although you know that you can only answer with one thing. The answer they don't want to hear.
"I am not currently in school."

Chapter Text
I just wanted to start off with thanking everybody for all the hits and kudos on this fanfic. For some reason, I decided to put this on the back burner for 3 years. I now care enough to bring this back from the dead. I hope people will actually read this since the Owl House fandom is kinda dead lol.
I have no set update schedule yet.
