Work Text:
The Mint she knew was gone. To Cocoa, that was a fact. She wasn't ... Especially mad about it. Things like that happen all of the time, especially when you become a celebrity. She just knew that she would never get back to these times she adored so much. Back when the two of them talked every day with a simple lunch at a local cafe, giggling at the most simple things and happily sharing their every day life. That was all that they needed. Each other.
She was the one to help him slowly get more jobs around the music industry. She wasn't exactly an expert, but she was pretty close to some people of power and quickly enough, Mint had became a celebrity. He was a prodigy in his art, mastering the violon perfectly and making the instrument completely his own. She admired him for it.
But sadly, more work obviously meant less free time. Little by little, Mint came to tell Cocoa every day that he couldn't get lunch with her, as he had important meetings once more. Cocoa had picked up a habit of waiting for his letters to tell her that he wouldn't come, until he ultimately stopped writing them entirely. It broke her to the deepest point. But the fact was, mint seemed to be happy. And that's all that mattered to her.
After a little while, Cocoa had changed houses entirely, moving to a comfier house closer to the city she worked at. And despite her best efforts to try to forget about the man she loved so deeply, he always crawled back into her mind. It was heartbreaking to her. And that day was probably the last straw, in a way. She'd seen a poster of him promoting a small Charity concert he would do on a plaza. The entrance fee being a symbolic gold coin, and all of the profits would be given to a local orphanage. She ... Wanted to see him. Perhaps one last time, a way for her to say a true goodbye to him, like she'd always wanted to. So she came.
She came and sat down in the middle of the crowd, listening to the small pieces the man had composed. She loved them of course. But not because she was impressed like the other people around her. But rather because ... It made her nostalgic. She knew every single one of these pieces full well. Too well, to be honest. It brought her a sense of comfort just as much as it hurt her. And the last piece ... Was probably the worst.
She recognized the first notes immediately, and her heart sank. This was her favorite piece. One too hard for her to hate. This was her song. A beautiful melody composed for her, a way for him to bring her the warmth and comfort she wanted back then on those cold nights they'd shared together. Kind of like a cup of cocoa.
Every note brought her closer to tears. And when the musician did his final bow, she immediately began to run out of this place. That ... Was it. The last time she would see him, probably. And he closed it with her own song. Destiny was quite ironic, wasn't it.
She was crying, sobbing so much that she didn't even hear what was going on for a good minute. Someone was calling her name in the crowd.
"COCOA !! COCOA, WAIT !!"
It took her a bit of time to hear it. But when she finally did, she turned around and saw a beautiful green hair through the mass of people, coming right towards her. It was HIM.
"COCOA !!! Oh god, cocoa ! I can't believe I finally found you ... Oh, are you crying ? Is ... Something going on ?"
"N-no, I'm fine."
An automatic reaction. She wasn't fine. She was very much in shock.
"Thank goodness ... Where have you been !? I've been trying to contact you, but you changed address and I couldn't find your new home, and you didn't come to my latest concerts and ... And ... It's been so long, I'm so glad you're here ..."
"Mint ...? You've been ... Trying to talk to me ?"
"Of course !! Oh, you have no idea how many times I've cried thinking that I'd lost you ..."
He remembered her ..? He wanted to talk to her ?!
"I ... Genuinely had no idea. I'm so sorry, I wish I could've-"
"Don't be sorry ... It's my fault. I was so busy with everything going on in my life, I should've spent more time with you, that way I wouldn't have lost your tracks ... God, I still can't believe it, I'm so happy ! We need to make up for lost time ! At least, If you're okay with it..."
"I am !! I'd love to spend more time with you ! I missed you dearly as well !"
"Great ! I can barely contain my happiness, ah ... Would you be free tonight ?"
"Tonight ?! But I thought you had to do a private concert for cheesecake !"
"I know her well ... If I say that I'd like to report it to another day because I want to spend some time with someone important for me, she'll be more than glad to change the date. So, what do you say ? I mean, if you're free, of course."
"I am !!"
"Let me take a table at the greatest restaurant in town. It's all thanks to you that I've came to this place ... I need to show my gratitude one way or another. 7pm at the honoré ?"
"That works for me !!"
Mint caught the woman in his arms and brought her into a warm hug, just like the ones they used to do.
Her heart was beating through her chest.
He was here. He was never gone. Simply lost.
