Work Text:

Freddy T readjusted his bowtie for what seemed like the twelfth time in the last few minutes. The bear’s eyes darted from the stage to the fire exit and back to the stage. The fans on the other side of the curtain roared for them to come out and play their set. A full sprint could get him out of here and to freedom.

“I don’t know about this,” Freddy said as he moved his hat back and forth before leaving it in the same place it was when he started.

His bearnuki hybrid boyfriend, Maple, crossed his arms and rolled his eyes from his seat on a box of stage equipment. He smoothed out his yellow shirt and cargo shorts and moved closer to the bear.

“You’re gonna do great! No need to worry.”

“B-but what if I miss a lyric or my voice cracks on stage?”

“You did your vocal warm-ups on the way here and you know your songs front to back.” Maple rubbed Freddy T’s cheeks. The red birthmarks seemed to get redder at the comforting touch.

“But-“

“Fred... Look at me.” Maple said, his voice even and stern.

The bear turned to him. “Y-yes Maple?”

Freddy T was caught off guard as his bowtie was pulled and he was met with a pair of lips pressing into his own. His eyes shot open wide as Maple kissed him, going no farther than keeping their lips connected. His anxious state seemed to take a backseat to the feeling of pure happiness that jetted from his fingertips and down to his toes. The kiss broke and Maple smacked Freddy’s leg with his tail.

“You’re gonna kill it.”

Freddy brushed his lips with his paw. “You... you kissed me.”

“It seemed to be the only way to calm you down. Sorry.”

Maple was the one to be caught off guard this time as Freddy pushed him into the stage equipment boxes and kissed him back. This time, both were full participants in the smooch as they gripped each other’s sides and pulled the other in close. Maple’s tail wagged swiftly as Freddy T’s paws trailed up his side to his cheeks and then broke the kiss.

“Don’t apologize for kissing me ever again.” He huffed, out of breath.

“I’m so- I MEAN ok.”

A stagehand, who saw the whole thing but let it happen anyways, called out, “It’s time.”

The two looked each other over and smiled.

“You got this.”

“I know.” Freddy T replied. He turned and looked over his shoulder at Maple. “My number one fan has my back.”

Maple was the one to cover his cheeks this time as he could feel them get hot. He loved it when Freddy T got like this. It was rare and few times it ever happened but when it did he couldn’t help but smile like an idiot.

“Knock 'em dead out there!” Maple cheered.

“Thanks, babe.”

The bear joined the rest of his band on stage, ready to take on this crowd and any that came after.
