It's Just A Bad Dream

Summary:

10 years after escaping from an unknown facility, paranoid little Atlas finds a place to live, along with being haunted by someone else. A former friend, perhaps.

"It ain't easy being me. And after all.."

It's all just a bad dream, right?

Notes:

haha hey! First uh.. work on here??? I guess??? This is based off of a Portal AU that I'm working on, but this iteration of it is gonna be OC-related stuff instead!

Just be mindful of the tags when reading this fic! Let alone this chapter, haha. If you didn't read the tags, don't get mad at me for it. Your fault, not mine.

Enjoy!

Chapter 1: Accident

Chapter Text

“C’mon Atlas! Catch up already!”

Footsteps ran through the long wooden corridors, echoing through the building that they were in. Nearby residents peeked out of their doors, watching two people run around, presumably playing a game of Tag. Although.. It just seems that they’re running around, having fun, and being kids all over again.

It’s something to keep Atlas’ mind off of her past memories, though. It’s been 10 years, she should be over it by now!

…but for her, it’s impossible.

“S-Slow down! I can’t catch up!”

Atlas called out to their friend, Mizu. Mizu was the one who helped the other live in the place that they’re in. It seems to be a mansion, but.. Not. Mizu has lived here since she was a kid, even having many, and I mean, MANY birds. Including a parrot.

Metal clanking seems to be following along too. Of course, Atlas was formerly a robot before being put in a human-like body, while keeping her robotic limbs, thankfully. She’s more used to them.

Mizu is a human. Atlas.. Is she a cyborg? It’s hard to tell which is robotic and which is human, but she’s fine with either answer. Although, her robotic limbs are slowing her down a bit, making it nigh impossible to catch up to her friend whenever they run.

“Atlas, slowing down isn’t fun! Nothing wrong with pushing yourself a bit, eh?”

“...No.”

“Then c’mon! There’s still so much to explore!”

The two of them continued running through the many halls of the “mansion”, accidentally knocking some stuff over in the process. Whoops. Atlas didn’t mind, though. She was used to getting yelled at, especially by…

No, it’s best not to dwell on it. It’s all in the past now! Surely nothing will go wrong, right?

Both of them were fast approaching the library, arguably one of the quietest rooms… at least, when the two friends aren’t in it. Although, due to how heavy the limbs were to Atlas’ human-like body, she has the tenacity to trip. She’s working on it, though!

“We’re almost there, Atlas! Don’t forget to greet the staff!”

“You know I won’t forget.”

Their personalities may be completely different, but they still got along, nonetheless. Mizu was more outgoing, willing to speak to others for HOURS on end. Atlas.. She’s the opposite of that. Always shy and not willing to speak with others. Except for Mizu, of course.

Atlas was never fond of reading, not even back at.. THAT place. Mizu has been working hard to get the latter interested, though. She may be forgetful at times, but she won’t forget about Atlas.

Especially since…

“Atlas?”

The metal clanking suddenly stopped. Maybe Atlas is just taking a breather? The latter wasn’t that active, considering how they spent most of their lives in that place. Mizu figured that, of course. Atlas told her about what happened. At least she was understanding..

On Atlas’ end, though.. It’s almost like time froze in place, then skipped ahead. One moment she was running, and then she was on the ground, spilling out something…

Hyperventilation. Yelling. All of that was starting to fade out on her end. Everything is such a blur…

“ATLAS! CAN YOU HEAR ME?!”

Next thing she knew, she was being moved, lying down on the ground now. She couldn’t hear, only see..

There was blood on Mizu’s hands. Something clicked in Atlas’ mind.

Her eyes… no wonder why one of them felt.. Missing.

She felt sick. She desperately wanted to throw up. But she found herself unable to do so. Everything seemed to be fading…

“CALL THE HOSPITAL! Atlas.. Don’t leave me, please!”

…

Fade.. that’s right. Her vision is fading…

Into the black void.
