Candace can’t bring herself to look at her best friend.
Just a second ago, she’d rushed out the words “I’m the superhero that’s been flying around Danville and saving everyone. That was me.” She could only imagine the shock that Stacy was experiencing right now.
“Okay…?” Stacy said. “Is that all? You seemed so nervous. I thought you were going to tell me something really bad.”
A beat of silence passed, and Candace blinked.
“It’s not bad, but…” Candace stared at her in disbelief. “‘Is that all?’ Seriously? You’re not surprised?”
“I’ve seen weirder.”
“What’s weirder than me being a superhero?”
“Uh, have you not seen everything your brothers have built over the summer?” Stacy joked, raising an eyebrow.
Plus there’s the fact that your pet’s an actual secret agent spy working for an organization with secret agent pets all over the city, Stacy thought to herself.
Candace blushed.
“But—but—”
“Do you want to hang out at the mall, Candace? I mean, if you’re not too busy saving the world and all that.”
“Huh? Oh, uh,” Candace still looked a little dazed but Stacy noticed her shoulders relax. “Sure. Yeah. Sounds good.”
Stacy smiled. “Okay, then.”
