Work Text:

“Pffft, little shadow…” Yae laughs softly, leaning back into the warmth that encased her; Ei’s strong arms wrapped protectively around her frame. “I told you, I’m fine. Works like that hardly affect me. You do realize, as the owner of a publishing house, I see dozens of foul works like that on a daily basis?”

Ei lets out a small grunt of acknowledgment, but she doesn’t budge. There they were, together in bed, back in the safety and comfort of her personal chambers in Tenshukaku, but the archon still didn’t feel right. She presses a kiss to the nape of Yae’s neck, holding the kitsune seated between her legs a little closer, just a little tighter. “...I know, my love. Even though I am the Electro Archon, tonight, I just feel… powerless.”

Yae’s eyes widen upon hearing the quiet admission. Ei leans down, resting her chin against Yae’s shoulder, and Yae finds Ei’s hands, interlacing their fingers together as she wraps those arms tighter around herself, remaining quiet so Ei knows it’s okay to continue.

“I can threaten and kill the Kamisato commissioner, but I know it’s not his fault, rather the fault of the crazed. I can strike them all down, and I have, but they will simply pop up over and over again like rampant roaches. And I can crush them beneath my feet time and time again, and for you, I will; but my love, I am worried about you, and what reading these works will mean for your wellbeing.”

“Oh, my sweet archon…” Yae turns to plant a sweet kiss on Ei’s cheek. “This is all the respite I need. You holding me tight right now is all I need for it all to be okay. As long as we’re both on the same page, about our relationship… then the acknowledgment of mortals is beneath us. I do not care for those works.”

“...Aren’t you angry?”

Yae lets out a long sigh. “It’s tiring to be. It’s not a pleasant feeling either.”

“I understand, Miko. But…” Ei’s jaw tightens, and Yae watches as the love, concern and rage Ei holds swirls tempestuously in those bright, purple eyes, “It’s okay to be angry. You’re well within your rights to be. Your anger is the part of you that knows your mistreatment. Your anger knows you deserve to be treated well, and with kindness. Your anger is a part of you that loves you.”

Ei presses a long kiss to Yae’s ear, hoping to transmit every fondness and affection she held for the love of her life in her arms.

“But if you are too tired to be angry… then let me be angry in your place. I will strike them all down, over and over, no matter how long it takes; and I will be here to hold you for as long as you need me to.”

Ei leans back onto the headboard of the bed frame, pulling Yae gently down with her as Yae turns her head to snuggle up against Ei, resting her head in the crook of Ei’s neck...

“So just rest now, in my arms, and I promise you this, my love – when you wake up, it'll be a better tomorrow.”

Notes:

tomorrow.
To everyone who's been hurt and is so tired from all this, I cannot promise that a better ‘tomorrow’ will come tomorrow, but it will come someday.
I promise.
