"Good morning campers!" Rapunzel shouted from the stage of the mess hall. "Now, Since it's the first day you won't have to do much. Just unpack and make it to one of today's tours to receive your schedules. Breakfast will be served each morning from 6:30-8:00, lunch will be…"
Varian picked at the edge of his staff shirt, he couldn't help but be anxious. His first year as a counselor at a camp he went to for years. But it's not like he could back out now. And not just because of timing. He owed the camp quite a large sum of money from his time as a camper.
"Don't stress little man, you got this." Eugene nudged him with his elbow.
"Thanks 'gene." He smiled awkwardly at his cousin.
"Besides," Lance chimed in from their left. "You're not the only new person this year."
Lance jerked his head in the direction of the new counselor of cabin #4.
"Her name is Caine." He explained.
Eugene pulled away part of the curtain to reveal a boy across the room standing near the entrance.
"Plus, undercut there is our newly hired cleaning crew." He added.
Varian exhaled.
"Thanks, guys."
Eugene swiftly pulled him into a headlock and ruffled his hair.
"Team awesome, it's what we do!"
Lance laughed at Varians attempts to wriggle free.
"Now to introduce your counselors," Rapunzel's voice rang over the speakers.
The boys stopped messing around and quickly shuffled to look their best.
"With cabin #1, Eugene."
At his Que, Eugene walked to the front of the stage next to Rapunzel.
"With cabin #2, Cassandra."
The woman followed suit.
"With cabin #3, Lance."
One by one the counselors took their place on the stage. Caine with cabin #4, Calliope with cabin #5, Atilla and Monty co-counseling cabin #6.
"And last but not least,"
Varian took a deep breath in.
"With cabin #7, Varian."
He breathed out and walked to his place on stage.
There were a few confused faces and whispers from the older campers, but it wasn't as bad as he imagined. Nobody was booing, they clapped their hands just as they'd done for the others.
"That concludes the welcome speech. And remember, Plus est un Vous!" Rapunzel gave her winning smile that could rival the sun's brightness and warmth, dismissing the campers to unpacking.
