Late Night Comfort (Toshinori x Reader)

Summary:

This was a fluffy "neither of them can sleep, so Toshinori comes in and cuddles" one-shot I did a while back. Sprinkle of angst amongst fluff.

Work Text:

You tossed and turned, desperately attempting to claim the slumber that you desired.  After years of strife, constant villains to face since your graduation from UA, anyone would expect that you were inhuman.  Keeping up in stride with the number one hero, your partner, had been quite the feat.  Even if you had not held a top spot as he did, though, you fought by his side for nearly ten years.  Years of saving others, you always seemed to force that smile upon your face, just like your partner.  Together, the two of you emphasized the symbol of hope.

All Might had a similar reason to his smile, and you knew the similarity as well as he did.  Neither of you spoke of your fears often, as neither of you wished to pull that façade down.  The two of you had been heroes after all, but it was obvious, deep in your gazes.  Despite the visages, the walls both of you managed to keep intact, you both knew one another far more than anyone else had.

You were not sure how late it had even been as you continued to toss and turn, groaning in aggravation.  Part of your mind drifted to All Might, or as you more fondly referred to him as Toshinori.  He, of course, was presumably sleeping soundlessly.  Using his quirk up until his time limit caused him to easily tire, after all.

As your mind flickered to your partner through your sleepless night, you could not help the mix of emotions inside of you.  Love circled around as the most prominent feeling, and yet, worry also circled.  Each day, you feared.  Each day, you kept a smile upon your lips, and yet, inside you still churned.  Pushing those thoughts from your mind, you desperately tried to fight the demons responsible for your sleepless night.

Forcing y/e/c orbs shut, you tightened your lips as you lied on your side, facing the wall.  Though you forced yourself to no longer toss and turn, you still desperately desired the soundless sleep that you needed.  How much longer could you keep up your quirk, your hero visage, if you were to go another sleepless night?

Undenounced to you, a certain hero had heard your tossing and turning.  The blond heard each sigh and groan that escaped your pouted lips as he slept in the next room.  Slender lips turned to a frown, deepening with each and every groan that escaped your lips.

The lanky figure stood to his feet, rolling his blue, sunken eyes as he made his way down the hall to your room.  He paused for a moment as he no longer heard you struggling, but with one peek into the darkened room, he could tell slumber had not engulfed you.  With careful steps, the lithe blond climbed his way into your covers, slender arms wrapping tight around your frame.

His steps were near silent, though you could vaguely hear the last bit of his approach.  As his lithe body dipped the bed, you attempted to close your eyes once more, though you could feel your heart quicken in your chest.  Your feelings towards your partner was another visage, another facade you refused to let down.  Once his lithe arms wrapped your body, though, you felt yourself melting into his comforting embrace.

"Toshi," you murmured softly, barely above a whisper.  Even at the very beginning, as you felt your partner's limbs around you, you could already feel sleep attempting to engulf you.  Just for another minute, you would allow yourself to keep it away by sheer willpower, before finally succumbing to what you desired so desperately.  "I'm sorry if I woke you."

"You didn't," he reassured you softly, his breath a tickle upon your ear as he curled into you more.  "Please, get some sleep."

"Thank you," you murmured softly as you allowed sleep to overtake you, tangled in the man's arms.  Your last sensation had been his surprisingly sweet scent filling your nostrils as you finally allowed sleep to overcome you.  Peacefully, you lied in his arms, shallow breaths signaling for your slumber.  Y/h/c locks still mussed from your twists and turns, it lied upon your pillow, just adding to the frame of the moonlight upon your silhouette.  That moment of vulnerability, Toshinori could take solace in, as it was one you would only share with him.

For just a moment, a mere moment, sunken blue eyes took in the sight of your slumbering figure.  His tired blue eyes memorized every small detail that he could seem, illuminated by the moonlight.  The man fought by your side for so many years, and yet, you forced so many walls up, not even the heroics of All Might could tear them down.  This little moment, the man felt his heart swell in his chest, breathing in a sweet scent that had been all your own.  His lips curled upwards the slightest bit, though his own need for slumber weighed upon him.

Toshinori had not taken more than a minute longer to fall into slumber, placing a gentle kiss against your head as he buried his face into the crook of your neck.  Sunken blue eyes closed, consciousness leaving his body as he listened to your rhythmic breaths.  It had been like a lullaby to the man, the sweetest song he was sure he had ever heard.

The two of you slept through well into the morning, stirring once the sun beamed upon closed y/e/c eyes.  The warmth of the sun paled in comparison to the warm feeling stretched through your body as you felt Toshinori's engulfing you, something you desired so desperately to stay in forever.  Though you knew you couldn't do such a thing, it had been something of a dream.

Lithe arms tightened around your frame for a mere moment, the man's sharp features nuzzled into the crook of your neck.  From your peripheral vision, you noticed his lips upturned, a sense of softness in those sunken blue eyes of his.  His murmur had been soft, barely above a whisper, and gave no way to knowing how the man had felt.  It was a simple, "Good morning, Y/N/N," that he murmured, his breath radiated against the shell of your ear.

Unsure of what the day had planned for two elder heroes, the number one hero and his partner, you took solace in this moment.  There had been no knowing if this would be the last time, or the first time to lead to every night.  For a moment, you had to just take solace in being in the man you love's arms, wrapped tightly under the covers.

"Good morning, Toshi."
