Chapter Text
The final bell screamed on friday afternoon. Packing up her potions homework, Luz mulled over ideas for where to go after school. She knew Eda would be half way through dissecting a trash slug on the shore nearby the Owl House.
She shuddered in disgust. Fridays are my days to win over- hang out with Amity at the library she thought to herself. She sighed, remembering that Amity needs space after their last misadventure at the library that resulted in a series of life threatening trials to win back Amity’s job, as well as a life changing kiss from her best friend.
“Just give her time, Noceda”. She whispered into the void. Rounding the central corridor, she proceeded past the last row of demonic lockers, clenching her textbook to her chest, not wanting to be held up by,
snagged on, or engulfed by one of those deathtraps.
Making her way through the crowd of students, she sees Willow, only to realize she’s too far away to catch up with her. Entering the central grounds, Luz began her purposefully slow walk home, which was short lived, as a tree next to her disappeared, revealing Edric and Emira. “GaaHHahh!” Luz screamed, assuming a defensive posture.
Upon noticing the two teens, she relaxed her shoulders. “Hey Ed, hey Em. what are you two doing sulking around?” She asked nervously. “We wanted to wait and see our favorite sister in-law,” Emira explained cheerfully.
Luz looked down at the book in her grasp and inhaled sharply. Edric stepped forward and said “Mittens already made her first move. We can tell you two both like each other, so what’s the hold up?”
“When are you going to sweep our baby sister off her feet?” Emira asked, while briskly spinning a spell circle, revealing an imposing figure, morphing into an illusion of Amity, from when she leapt onto the
Blight Industries stage in between Luz and the abomination soldier, replaying Amity’s demand for the abomination to “Stay away from my Luz!”
Luz sat down at the base of the nearest tree, checking her surroundings for any stragglers passing their direction leaving Hexide. When the coast was clear, she put her hands on her temples and said
“I don’t think she wants to talk to me right now. After all, has she ever skipped school before?”
The twins look at each other nervously, dismissing the illusion and knelt next to Luz. Ed put his hand on the back of his own neck. “Look, I know this might not be perfect timing for you, but the reality is
we’ve done all we can to ease her nerves and reassure her, but she’s still in the same shock she was left in on the doorstep of the manor,” Ed explained softly.
Luz looked up at him and said “Things are so uncertain right now, I can’t make heads or tails about what would even be fair to ask of Amity. Will your parents ever approve? If we build a new portal, will I ever be able to see her again?"
Luz began to breathe heavily.
Seeing this, Emira put her hand on Luz’s shoulder and whispered “one thing the both of you have in common is that you feel like you have to carry every burden alone, which is overwhelming for you. But seeing you two together,
you’re brave enough to handle anything." Ed and I can help smooth things over with mom and dad if need be. Besides, if mom and dad forbid Mittens from ever seeing you again, I’m sure Mittens will choose that portal to the human realm with you over blight manor in an instant.”
Ed and Luz both looked at her with wide eyes. “But we won’t let it get to that, right Em?” Edric asserted. Raising her index finger, “The point is,” Emira responded, Ed and I came up with a plan to get you two over this awkward phase.” She leaned in whispering into Luz’s ear, while those ears slowly lit up in a crimson hue.
