Work Text:

Four hours and three words into the new chapter he’s writing, Fulgur hears a knock on the door.

He ignores it, of course, as he isn’t expecting delivery, nor any visitors. It was most likely some person at the wrong door, and Fulgur can’t be bothered to check. Now, there wasn’t too much that he missed about his past (or is it future?), but the convenience of having a camera at every front door–even at the entrances of shitty apartments like his–, was very much desired.

Suddenly, there’s another knock.

And another.

And– fucking hell –one more, which finally cracks him. Alright, mysterious person bothering him, you win. He’ll open the stupid door, and this better be worth it. Now that he’s gotten up from his chair, Fulgur probably shouldn’t expect to finish writing any time soon… But this is fine . Fine for him, at least, but for the asshole that keeps banging on his door?

While Fulgur hasn’t ordered any food, someone might be getting a knuckle sandwich tonight.

After an admittedly small amount of steps, Fulgur manages to make it from his bedside desk to his front door. He swings it open, fist clenched, only to find–

Nothing.

Well, scratch that, not nothing . Nobody’s there, that’s for sure, but there’s a somewhat large, wriggling cardboard box at his feet. A few rough, scattered punctures marr the unsealed top, the word [PAWTYX] scrawled messily besidethem in permanent marker.

That’s a bit ominous. And what kind of pun–if it is a pun–is that? Suddenly, the fact that the box is squirming becomes much, much more alarming.

A moving, damaged box suddenly appearing at his doorstep, with no sign of its courier? Yeah, that’s not what one would call a good thing. The smart thing to do right now is shut the door, and return to productivity. But while Fulgur boasts a (comparatively) rational brain, his actions, on the other hand…

He opens the box without a second thought.

Four small, yet somewhat familiar pairs of eyes peer back at him.

A couple of thoughts enter his head. Who put such cute, defenseless animals in such a cramped box like this? And why do most of them have heterophobia in their eyes? And–

One of the animals–a brown kitten, somehow even tinier than the others–leaps out, sticking its claws into Fulgur’s defenseless face.

The rest take this as a cue to wreak havoc in his apartment.

[Legatus]: Vox I need your help

[Legatus]: Voxxy?

[Legatus]: Vox Akuma

[Legatus]: Are you leaving me on read? Fucking prick

[Legatus]: Brother, please

[old man]: What do you want fungus

[Legatus]: shut up

[Legatus]: so, let’s say hypothetically, everyone in Luxiem became a housepet except for you

[Legatus]: what would you do

[old man]: I would… blame Shu?

[Legatus]: That’s a great first step! And then what

[old man]: I don’t know? Figure out a way to change them back? Be a good owner if I can’t?

[Legatus]: You really are so helpful voxxy

[old man]: I do my best. Why are you asking this anyways

[Legatus]: Let’s say the situation isn’t that hypotheti

[old man]: what

[Legatus]: sorry gotta go albanyan’s pissing on the carpet again

[old man]: what.

Fulgur throws his phone to the side, all but leaping to snatch up Alban–who, for the second time now, decided it was a great idea to relieve himself in the middle of Fulgur’s apartment.

How such a tiny kitten could create this big of a mess is beyond him, but Fulgur is at least glad the rest of his now-fluffy siblings seem to be well-behaved.

Sonny and Yugo became the cutest puppies in the world–a golden retriever and pomeranian, respectively. While they might have knocked over his stuff and dragged his trash around, they’re now playing with a ball of crumpled up paper in the corner, batting it back and forth.

Fulgur has to admit–it’s absolutely adorable. He’s been taking video after video, in the off-moments where no one’s causing any sort of trouble. And speaking of trouble…

He lifts Alban by the scruff of his neck, the kitten dangling pathetically yet still with the smuggest look in his eyes. “ You, ” Fulgur starts, shaking his finger in an overly dramatic fashion. “I’m revoking all of your privileges. No more rights for you.”

Alban nyas in return, smacking Fulgur in the face with his tail. It doesn’t hurt, Alban is too weak and his tail is too fluffy for it to feel like anything more than a tickle, but Fulgur still scrunches his face in mock pain, voice becoming weak and raspy.

“ How could you do this to me, Albanyan… ” he says, body falling theatrically. Fulgur grabs Sonny and Yugo as the two puppies come running over at his plummet, and flops over his three siblings, pretending to crush them under his body weight. “If I’m going down, then I’ll just have to take the rest of you down with me!”

Yugo and Alban protest with high pitched meows and barks directly into his ear, while Sonny does his best to fight his way out, wiggling with all his strength. It doesn’t work at all, and Fulgur tries to suppress his laughter.

Of course he fails, wheezing until his stomach hurts. Despite all the mess and troubles, Fulgur is still having the time of his life. Of course, in the long run it would be nothing but pain, but this should be temporary, right?

In the back of Fulgur’s mind, he still wonders if this is an elaborate prank by some sort of malicious villain. He should probably be worrying about whoever transformed his family to such a state, or even how they were turned, but in a world with demons, cyborgs, and psychics, anything was possible.

…Psychics.

Where was Uki?

“Uki?” Fulgur calls, quickly standing and scooping everyone up into his arms. “Uki, baby, where are you?”

There’s absolutely no way Uki could have gone far–he was only a little bunny–but still , where could he be? Fulgur’s apartment wasn’t large by any means, and even with psychic powers Uki wouldn’t be stupid enough to float himself outside. Probably. The standards for good decisions are rather low now.

He scans every nook and cranny, but there’s not a single purple fluffball in sight. Even Alban, Yugo, and Sonny are becoming worried, their little eyes darting around, searching for their fellow critter. Fulgur is almost panicking when he spots a faint violet glow, coming from the crack of his… bathroom door.

Maybe Fulgur should brace himself.

With a deep breath, Fulgur nudges the door open with his foot, the action now punctuated with the soft thump of his previously-floating clothes falling to the floor. Uki’s sitting in the middle of it all, one of Fulgur’s old t-shirts draping haphazardly over his back.

Uki’s expression–if bunnies could have expressions–is neutral, but the rhythmic of one of his hind legs betrays his embarassment.

“Uki,” Fulgur asks. “What are you doing?”

Unsurprisingly, Uki doesn’t say anything. All he does is scoot Fulgur’s dirty clothes to the sides with his abilities, not breaking eye contact.

“Alrighty. Well, let’s just move on then.” Fulgur crouches down, Uki eagerly hopping into his arms to join his siblings. “It’s been a long, long night. How about we all go to sleep now? I’ll shower and join you guys in a bit.”

Bringing everyone into his room, Fulgur deposits them all onto his bed. Yugo and Alban scurry around, messing up his sheets, while Sonny situates himself in the most comfortable spot he can find–right on top of Fulgur’s favorite pillow. Uki, on the other hand, doesn’t budge, instead looking up at Fulgur expectantly, gaze much too intense for a bunny.

“...?”

“...Uki, I’m not bringing you into the bathroom with me.”

God damn, he needs a break.

When Fulgur wakes up the next morning, it’s because of the crushing amount of weight on his body.

“Wh-??” Blinking his eyes open blearily, Fulgur is once again greeted with those four familiar gazes.

“Good morning Fuu-chan!”
