I Choose Crying Over You

Summary:

Hyunwoo's hurting and he finally tells Kihyun how he feels...

Work Text:

"And when you told me what your favourite book was, I brought it and read it over and over... trying to find pieces of you in it" Hyunwoo spat, "Because I wanted to know you better, I wanted to learn everything about you" He said his voice cracking as the emotion overcame him. "And I did... I learnt that your nose scrunches when you're disgusted and you get little cat whisker dimples on your cheeks when you laugh" He continued his painful tirade ignoring the tears that were slowly filling his lower lash line.

"The more I learnt, the more I fell in love, in love with the way your eyes sparkled when you'd explain the plot of that new book you were reading, I fell in love with every little detail of you. You were my favourite painting in the gallery but I'm just the book at the bottom of the pile to you" Hyunwoo finished swallowing hard, his throat was dry and his chest tight as he struggled to be honest about his feelings.

"I love you Yoo Kihyun, but I don't want to anymore" He sobbed out, finally letting the sadness wash over him like a wave. "I choose crying over you, cause it'll make me happier than you do... I loved you more than you'll ever be able to love me" Hyunwoo finished, taking a deep breath as he listened intently to Kihyun's rattled breathing on the other side of the phone.

"Hyun...woo" The other cried out, his voice weak and thin as he rode out the sobs before trying to speak again. "I love that about you... I love that you care so deeply, that you're so observant but you want something from me that I can't give" Kihyun explained, "I'm not you, I don't love the way you do and I can't change that" he said whimpering slightly like a wounded puppy. "I want to fix this but if it's just going to hurt us both holding on then.... We have to let go" Kihyun said stumbling over his words awkwardly.

"I have to respect your decision whether I like it or not" the younger sighed, "I love you too... and I never meant to hurt you" the other spluttered out through tears, the strangled sobs tugged on Hyunwoo's heart strings making him want to hold the smaller close, hear his heart beat in his ears but he was met with a ghostly absence and a cold bed instead. "But you were never the book at the bottom of the pile... maybe you should read that book one more time, cause you were the reason it was my favourite" Kihyun said sighing deeply before the phone cut off.

A strangled cry escaped Hyunwoo now he was painfully alone, gripping his pillow for dear life as he cried until he gave himself a headache. When he finally opened his eyes again, they fixated on the familiar blue binding of the book, sitting out on his desk the way it often was. He slowly slid upright with his heart in his throat as he pulled the book into his lap this time reading to find pieces of himself instead.
